Viggo Mortensen Still Hopeful For A Return As Aragorn In THE HOBBIT Trilogy

He wasn't in the last one and it's highly unlikely that we'll see him in the next instalment either, but Viggo Mortensen has now expressed interest in reprising the role of Aragorn should director Peter Jackson decide to fill in the gaps between The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings trilogies.

It's fair to say that Aragorn was easily one of the most popular characters in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, and with many of the actors from that series returning for Peter Jackson's take on The Hobbit, it seems like a missed opportunity not to bring him back too. The main problem is of course the fact that the character simply didn't appear in that story! However, as Jackson made the decision to turn his adaptation of the J.R.R. Tolkien novel into a trilogy, the possibility of a return for Aragorn thereby seems far more likely. Here's what actor Viggo Mortensen had to say about exactly that in a recent interview with Total Film Magazine. "Would I play Aragorn again? Sure, if it seemed sensible to do so. He's not in the book of The Hobbit but if they're working with the appendices they may be intending to bridge the 60-year Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings gap. I think I would have heard by now so I have to assume... But Peter Jackson is famous for his reshoots, so you never know!" As great as it would be to see Aragorn back on the big screen, he makes a good point - it does seem a little late for the director to suddenly call him back for a surprise appearance! Besides, regardless of how great it would be to see him, it would be a shame for them to throw in Aragorn just for the sake of it! What do you guys think?
