Henry Cavill Hopes Not To Follow In The Footsteps Of SUPERMAN RETURNS' Brandon Routh

Since appearing in 2006's Superman Returns, Brandon Routh seems to have flown off the radar. Henry Cavill is hoping that the same won't happen to him after this summer's Man of Steel! He also comments on the possibility of playing James Bond and more. Check it out!

You would have thought that playing Superman would have opened a lot of doors for Brandon Routh. Instead, his career never seemed to really take off after Bryan Singer's ill-fated take on the DC superhero, despite memorable appearances in the likes of Chuck, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Zack and Miri Make a Porno. "I certainly haven't got my mind set on failure," he said when asked by Empire Magazine if he's worried "about pulling a Brandon Routh and disappearing" after the release of Zack Snyder's Man of Steel. "That is a bad approach - you want to strive for success." As for what he has lined up next, his schedule is clear, but James Bond is still on his mind. "What a wonderful challenge to follow up Daniel Craig. He has set the bar so high." What would you guys like to see Cavill do after Man of Steel? Justice League certainly seems like the most obvious answer, but that really does depend on how Superman's return to the big screen goes in June...

In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time. Clark Kent/Kal-El (Henry Cavill) is a young twenty-something journalist who feels alienated by powers beyond his imagination. Transported years ago to Earth from Krypton, a highly advanced, distant planet, Clark struggles with the ultimate question 'Why am I here?' Shaped by the values of his adoptive parents Martha (Diane Lane) and Jonathan Kent (Kevin Costner), Clark discovers having extraordinary abilities means making difficult decisions. When the world is in dire need of stability, an even greater threat emerges. Clark must become a Man of Steel, to protect the people he loves and shine as the world’s beacon of hope – Superman.

STARRING:

Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman
Amy Adams as Lois Lane
Kevin Costner as Jonathan Kent
Diane Lane as Martha Kent
Michael Shannon as Zod

God, he could turn a straight man gay.
TheOneAboveAll - 4/24/2013, 5:15 PM
His looks itself looks better than Returns
AmazingFantasy - 4/24/2013, 5:15 PM
Cavill is too young for Bond.

But I could see it working maybe...

The teaser trailer already was better than Returns
TheOneAboveAll - 4/24/2013, 5:16 PM
He would be an awesome BOND
HellsHammer - 4/24/2013, 5:16 PM
It won't happen to you Henry. You ARE Superman!
Bodwulf - 4/24/2013, 5:17 PM
I do not think Thor could do this to Cavill's Superman

Spock - 4/24/2013, 5:17 PM
That is pretty funny, Actually Routh will be here in Omaha, NE for FREE COMIC BOOK DAY @ Krypton Comics. I'll be there!
Gyasiman - 4/24/2013, 5:17 PM
If Henry Cavill doesn't wanna play superman. He would make a great Clark Kent. ;)
DaenerysTargaryen - 4/24/2013, 5:18 PM
Cavill would have to really suck in order for that to happen. If he does a good job, I would not be suprised if almost every studio starts wanting him for roles
BANEofExistence - 4/24/2013, 5:22 PM
I was just thinking the other day that this guy would make an amazing James bond! Imagine Chris molan directing with cavill as 007! I say Cavill or Hardy for the next 007!
ArmGunar - 4/24/2013, 5:23 PM
It won't happen !!

The last trailer is already better than the entire Returns.

Superman Returns was very very very bad ... made by a bad director ... who killed X-Men and especially Cyclop and who'll kill the new franchise X-Men created by Vaughn and the future X-Men Days of Future Past !!!
DoubleD - 4/24/2013, 5:24 PM
Iron-Man 3, Rotten Tomatoe's 94% an rising. / 32 FRESH / 2 ROTTEN
FlashFacts - 4/24/2013, 5:26 PM
In the end he'll probably surpass Christopher Reeve. Routh was the only decent thing about returns. At least he was good on Chuck.

Mr Spock why r u stealing my avatar.......lol!
Canon108 - 4/24/2013, 5:29 PM
He's not too young for Bond. Craig has 1-2 more films in him yet then Cavill would be the same age Craig was when he was cast...he was too young ten years ago though.
CaptainObvious - 4/24/2013, 5:30 PM
@DoubleD- What does that have to do with Man of Steel?
Jollem - 4/24/2013, 5:30 PM
i dunno, i think affleck set the gold standard

nowtheresaBATman - 4/24/2013, 5:31 PM
just look at that comparison lol!

Superman Returns for real 6/14!

AnitaDick - 4/24/2013, 5:33 PM
That's good that Cavill doesn't want to follow Routh's footsteps because I don't think it would be possible. No offense to Cavill but I don't think he can live up to Routh and his performance in Returns.
Spock - 4/24/2013, 5:33 PM
Just for the record Mr. Spock & Spock are not the same person!
RGINLA - 4/24/2013, 5:34 PM
Singer ruined Routh's career for the time being... besides, Cavill had a more extensive resume than Routh to fall back on. If Snyder had did Superman Returns perhaps Routh would be the bigger star today.

EITHER WAY, Snyder should bring back Routh as Bizarro, created by Luthor and CADMUS from DNA left from the battle with General Zod, to close the loop from Superman Returns.
ahhmynuts - 4/24/2013, 5:36 PM
@purdue
...aaand why do you think that?
bs77 - 4/24/2013, 5:36 PM
It's sad, but when I see Brandon's Superman now, all I can think of is that weird filipino guy that had all the surgery to look like Brandon's Superman. Creepy.

Routh's performance was one of a kind. He had Christopher Reeve's Supes to work with and he pulled it off perfectly. Cavill on the other hand has to be a different kind of Superman so he has more pressure to deal with of being his own Supes. I wish him the best.
ricko8687 - 4/24/2013, 5:38 PM
Superman returns pid to much of a homage to the 70s superman but this is a different beast and Canill will totally own the character
AnitaDick - 4/24/2013, 5:39 PM
Speaking of Routh, it would be great to see him play the Eradicator in a future sequel.

Cavil is very charismatic and will win over audiences everywhere
NextHero08 - 4/24/2013, 5:50 PM
"Cavill IS SUPERMAN!" "Cavill IS SUPERMAN!" Amazing how people keep saying that crap BEFORE they even see the film. Same thing was said about Routh and about Garfield with Spider-Man. Every generation has their own VERSION of these heroes but there will never be any one actor to be THE version of a superhero. EVER.
nowtheresaBATman - 4/24/2013, 5:51 PM
Routh is a bland actor everything I've seen him in. The best he ever acted was his impression of Christopher Reeve's Clark Kent. But his Superman was horendous.
TheTank - 4/24/2013, 5:51 PM
Routh is on a new show on CBS called "Partners". I haven't seen it, he's not a good actor at all, one magazine dubbed him "The Poor Mans Keanu Reeves" lol. Aside from having a resemblance to Christopher Reeve, Brandon had no right starring in that movie. Its pretty apparent that he wasn't up to par when it came to acting because he has like 5 lines in the whole movie, i know the writers were basically re-writing the movie through out the entire shoot, so they probably restructured the script to be carried by Kevin Spacey. That was the first thing i said to myself after i saw SR, "Mannn, he was barely in the movie."

Henry is a good actor, i remember seeing him in "The count of monte cristo" like 10 years ago and i was like ya kno if this kid was a little older he really would be a good superman...provided he can do an american accent lol. I know he was casted by McG but i do remember reading an article with the costume designer in which he said he felt that Superman needed to played by a man and not a kid, henry was only 21 at the time.
CASH - 4/24/2013, 5:53 PM
I think Henry would be great in as the next 007. He will have aged nicely by then. And Bond doesnt have an age limit. Is all in the story.
TheBaroness89 - 4/24/2013, 5:53 PM
Dear Henry,
Despite my crush on you- I can objectively say you have nothing to worry about. Brandon Routh cannot act. He can do a mediocre Chris Reeve impersonation and a sub par gay man impersonation. He does have a hot wife so kudos to him for that but otherwise Henry you'll be just fine. Now- as for next project....ummm yeah you can lead the Justice League against the forces of Darkseid.
Thanks,
Baroness
Akercocke - 4/24/2013, 5:54 PM
There's no comparison. Cavill looks like Superman, Routh looked like a guy dressed as Superman.
nowtheresaBATman - 4/24/2013, 5:56 PM
@NextHero
Right. I guess you'll be spening 6/14 dusting off old VHS tapes then.
TheBoss117 - 4/24/2013, 5:57 PM
First Supes, now he's eyeing up Bond?...Geez Cavill, you'll be beating the ladies off with a stick!...Leave some for us average joes!
Nemeres - 4/24/2013, 6:00 PM
Nice. I love how you're tearing apart the Empire article into little pieces and using it for hits. It's not like we can all go to MrCavill.com and click on the scans that they made of the entire article. And singling out an entire CBM post just to diss on Brandon Routh's career? Loved it. It's not like he's a human being instead of an emotionless comodity.
SuperSam - 4/24/2013, 6:03 PM
@Supercat
Lol it sure is...

TheTank - 4/24/2013, 6:06 PM
I just hope they dont stray too far from what makes Superman so awesome to me. I just watched the documentary "Look up in the sky: The Amazing story of superman" and it def looks like this is going to be the most contemporary take on the character. Regardless, i have faith, everything i have seen and heard so far is pretty close to the pitch i had for Warner Brothers 4 years ago. From the casting of Henry Cavill to the government trying to take down superman. And I actually did speak with Jon Peters about how Superman is a beacon of hope, and that you can make the circumstances around the character dark, but the character himself can't be dark. I had a whole trilogy planned out. This is right after i graduated film school at NYU. My ideas for part 2 and 3 involved Luthor running for and becoming president over the course of part 2 and 3 and in the 3rd one would be the showdown between lex and superman. As lex was on the verge of being kicked out of office, i toyed with having lex wear the green power suit and him and superman go hand to hand. My whole idea for the story was that over the course of the 3 movies you would go along with clark on this journey and that by the end of the 3rd movie he will have become the Superman we all know and love. I felt that was what was going on with the Batman movies but that last one really made that fall on its face...Not that it was a bad movie whatsoever, it just wasn't the way i wanted that series to end. He never really got to be batman, if you look at it from the beginning of the story when he left Gotham for asia until the end of the dark knight rises, its about 15 years that goes by. And out of that 15 years he was only Batman for 2 of those years.

BTW I am an accomplished voice actor, illustrator, and composer. If anyone is looking for an actor to be in any fan films, id love to try out. Im currently starring as He-Man in a Masters of the Universe live action 12 part web-series.

I have plenty of headshots and can post them here if anyone is interested. Im 6', 258lbs (Solid muscle, hence my name The Tank, Im a former boxer and bodybuilder as well)
