As we all anxiously wait on news of a Justice League movie, it may come as a relief to learn that Warner Bros. are at least giving the green light to some of their other DC comic book properties. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that the Vertigo series Fables is set to be adapted to the big screen by Nikolaj Arcel. He is best known for helming critically acclaimed Danish film, A Royal Affair. The adaptation is set to be written by Jeremy Slater - who recently worked on a draft of The Fantastic Four for 20th Century Fox - and will be produced by David Heyman and Jeffrey Clifford of Heyday Films (they are responsible for the Harry Potter movies). This isn't the first time that plans have been put in place to adapt Fables. Warner Bros. tried to develop a movie back in 2004 with the Jim Henson Company and it was ultimately passed on by ABC when it was set to be brought to the small screen four years later. Fables was created in 2002 by Bill Willingham and focuses on fairytale characters like Snow White and Cinderella who get kicked out of their world and into ours.

"it may come as a relief to learn that Warner Bros. are at least giving the green light to some of their other DC comic book properties."

this line makes me laugh cause WB has been given green light to other DC comic book properties for years instead of a Justice Leauge movie, Wonder Woman, The Flash i.e.

- The Losers
- Watchmen
- Constantine
- V for Vendetta
- A History of Violence

Was this the show that can screwed over by ABC who then went and piked up Once Upon a Time.

@Jason

But the time all those films get made, Marvel would have announced how they are final adding in Bucky's 2nd cousin twice removed roomate to Toro's dentist after remaking Civil War and WW Hulk twice.

I kind of feel sorry for Willingham. This movie may be fantastic, but the general public is going to think, "Really??! This is just a rip off of Once Upon a Time! Been there, done that."
I hope that's not the case, but alas . . .

Oh dear. It begins again. We were saved from Fables getting mangled on ABC (though it's kind of funny how Once Upon A Time happened a short time later), so at least the money will be right (particularly if we ever want to see Animal Farm for starters). Now they just have to not mangle everything else. And as Warners is notorious for not remotely talking to Bill Willingham about the Fables adaptations, one can only hope they'll remember to let him consult at least a little bit.

MonkeyBalls is right! If Marvel Studios was smart, they'd start pumping out romantic comedies right away.

Monkeyballs has a point. The general movie audience will eventually get tired of CBMs.

Marvel Studios was created specifically to make cbms..... How you are comparing that to Warner Brothers is beyond me.

Not like Disney is gonna crash and burn if Marvel Studios goes under.

But anyways, please make a damn Flash movie pleeeeease

Oh so that's why WB has Telltale doing a game for Fables.

@monkeyballs

I understood what you were getting at, it just stood out as odd to me that you were comparing an almost 100 year movie studio that makes movies across all genres to a young studio that focuses on just one segment of film entertainment.

But you are 100% correct sir. If CBMs go the way of the dodo bird Marvel Studios will in fact be screwed while WB will be sittin pretty.

Besides that, I have a feeling that WB/DC will be having a major announcement in the next year relating to another Justice League character being made into a movie. They just have to. There is no way in hell they can ignore rabid fans request for something awesome after MoS is a huge hit.

So...let me get this straight. They will give us this shit, but not a GL reboot, WW, Flash, and JL movie(s)?

Sounds good. From the producers of Harry Potter, that's a good sign. WB can make Fables and other CBMs at the same time. Don't freak out. Fables audience will be different (outside of fanboys) than any Justice League character movie audience.

I have a feeling Fables will draw in that Hunger Games/Twilight crowd, and that's money.

Once Upon a Time can choke on a bag of dicks.

@Monkeyballs

If WB is gonna make another Green Lantern film prior to Justice League it will be a sequel to the Ryan Reynolds film where they can build on the same continuity and retain Mark Strong.Maybe they might recast,but like the second Hulk film that is no sure bet it will be better received by the public then the first film.

No way in hell do they just "wipe the slate" and start over.Its too big a risk to
drop 150/175 million on a total reboot of a franchise that hasn't proven itself
like Batman,Spider-Man and now Superman had done in the past.

WB is still stuck with the notion that a female led franchise will not work, so I doubt we see Wonder Woman make her film debut till the Justice League movie.

If we are getting a series of DC films before Justice League it will be a MOS sequel, a Batman reboot,The Flash and a Green Lantern 2 film starring Ryan Reynolds and directed by someone with a SCI-FI background.

Personally,I think WB is torn between jumping into Justice League and doing a World's Finest film as Snyder and Cavill seem to support.

That way things can work out like this.

summer 2015: MOS2 to introduce Batman in a crossover adventure against Lex Luthor,Mr Freeze and other super powered villains like Clayface and Metallo.

Winter 2015: Green Lantern 2 with Ryan Reynolds and Mark Strong.Directed by a real SCI-FI director.

summer 2016: Justice League to introduce Wonder Woman,The Flash,Aquaman and Cyborg against Brainiac.

summer 2017: Wonder Woman spin off
Winter 2017: The Flash spin off

summer 2018: MOS 3( Doomsday?)with guest shot of Wonder Woman and maybe some B-level guys like Booster Gold or Blue Beetle can make intros.

winter 2018: The Batman spin off against the Penguin and The Riddler ala Arkham City with Killer Croc,Bane and Soloman Grundy.Intro of Robin and Nightwing.

summer 2019: Justice League 2 (Darkseid leds his armies to Earth to destroy Superman)Intro of Orion and the other New Gods,Scott Free and Big Barda.

If it's done right, this could be really good. I mean yeah Once Upon a time rips off the concept, but not the stories. If they make book 1 into a movie instead of doing something "original" I think it will be great.

The first book has that whole concept of the characters you knew growing up forced to live in the "real world". But it's also a pretty clever "who done it?" that could make for a great big screen movie.

This is cool and all but I have been wanting a HBO series of Fables. I could see that have done well. But this will be cool too.

Sorry to stray away from the Fables conversation but...

Regarding the order of JL movies they should do the following order:

MOS - Done
Flash
Green Lantern 2 (Ryan Reynolds) - Mention Manhunter
Worlds Finest - Introducing new batman
Wonder Women - Mention Aquaman
Aquaman
Batman Reboot
Man of Steel 2 - Mention Manhunter
Justice League
