Greg Rucka's critically acclaimed Punisher series was prematurely brought to an end due to the character being made part of the "Marvel NOW!" Thunderbolts series. It was never actually revealed how exactly Frank Castle escaped from the underwater prison that The Avengers put him in at the conclusion of that run. Whether or not Punisher: Trial of The Punisher will provide any answers is unclear, although it certainly doesn't sound that way.
