According to The Hollywood Reporter, tracking for Thor: The Dark World indicates that the superhero sequel will open with upwards of $75 million when it's released in North America on November 8th. That would easily exceed the $65.7 million earned by Thor in 2011, but will it come close to the worldwide total of £1.2 billion made by Iron Man 3 earlier this year? That's extremely unlikely according to analysts, but none of them ever imagined that Robert Downey Jr.'s third solo outing would ever come close to the figure mentioned above! Regardless, Thor: The Dark World is sparking interesting among all moviegoers, so there's no doubt that this will be yet another hit for Marvel Studios. How much do you guys think it will end up making?

Marvel’s "Thor: The Dark World" continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s "Thor" and "Marvel’s The Avengers," Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

STARRING:

Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Anthony Hopkins as Odin
Natalie Portman as Jane Foster
Zachary Levi as Fandral
Ray Stevenson as Volstagg
Tadanobu Asano as Hogun
Jaimie Alexander as Sif
Idris Elba as Heimdall
Christopher Eccleston as Malekith

I think they underestimate the fangirls.
I predict about 500-700 at the end of Thor 2's run.
ksommer - 10/17/2013, 1:55 PM
I'm hoping for $85mm. Getting only a $10mm bump from Avengers would be a little disappointing.
WorstUserNameEver - 10/17/2013, 1:58 PM
Did Thor only make $268.3 mil ww? I'm sure I read somewhere that Thor took around $400 mil and Cap took around $350 mil????
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 1:59 PM
That's if Endersgame is a flop! But if it's a huge hit it might carry over the following week and impact Thors 2 opening.
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 2:04 PM
It's kinda sandwiched between Enders game and catching Fire! That's going to be an uphill battle for Thor.
StatenMan18 - 10/17/2013, 2:04 PM
Avengers made 1.5 billion not million
NovaCorpsFan - 10/17/2013, 2:09 PM
Looks good. Hope the movie delivers.
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 2:10 PM
Thanks for the correction but I'm sure it was a typo! It's not like the Marvelites will let you forget how much money it made..........
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 2:16 PM
That's why I said kinda!!!
revloveR - 10/17/2013, 2:16 PM
i can't imagine it doing less than 700 mill
Visualiza - 10/17/2013, 2:17 PM
Wow, that's quite a bit lower than I expected. Either way, I'm still not expecting it to make MoS money. Should do better internationally.
iZinDiaN - 10/17/2013, 2:18 PM
Lol, everyone said M.O.S was gonna crack the $1 billion mark for sure... look what happened :(.

Not hating, just saying that don't get your hopes too high for this movie cracking your estimates.
JamesMan - 10/17/2013, 2:19 PM
I'm just hoping for a decent movie, what it makes is irrelevant.
Lhornbk - 10/17/2013, 2:22 PM
It will get nowhere near $700 million. Probably not even $500 million. Catching Fire will kill it.
Liverpool4life - 10/17/2013, 2:22 PM
Thor:TDW will make more than the first. That's as bold as I will get.
InfiniteMonkey - 10/17/2013, 2:23 PM
Who cares what it makes?!
Its going to be a good movie and with that said, its just going to add more fire to Avengers 2.
Avengers 2 is going to make 10 Billion! LOL
kadetra - 10/17/2013, 2:23 PM
It would probably make around 600-700 million worldwide.
HugoStrange87 - 10/17/2013, 2:24 PM
@James exactly. Should make at least $500 mill I'd say. People can say IM3 rode on the coat tails of Avengers all they want but don't forget RDJ has star power which draws fans as well.
ninjamishi - 10/17/2013, 2:25 PM
Why does it go from the US dollar symbol but then switch to the british pound symbol?
Dandy - 10/17/2013, 2:25 PM
If the movie is good (which I hope it is), I predict that it's going to make around 700-800mil. I very much doubt that it will beat out- or even get close- to Iron Man 3.

Still, whether it is good or not, it's going to beat out Thor's gross of $450,000.
ekrolo2 - 10/17/2013, 2:27 PM
I don't think it'll crack a billion but I think its going to get close to it. If the film gets pretty good word of mouth then maybe, but thats a big maybe.
patrat18 - 10/17/2013, 2:30 PM
Don't get your hopes up.
Amazing512 - 10/17/2013, 2:32 PM
I I actually think it's going to surpass these projections
JamesMan - 10/17/2013, 2:33 PM
@HugoStrange87

Yeah, star power had a huge play in IM3's success. The difference here is that while Hemsworth is definitely more popular, he isn't a big box office draw. His latest film Rush (which I really liked) has made about $70 million on a $38 million budget. By no means a failure, but not anything astounding considering the advertisements were going hard with the fact that they had Chris, even if he wasn't the title character. Hey, as long as Thor:TDW makes a little more than the first I'm fine because that guarantees more. Now it's just a matter of finding out if the film is worth it.
Omarvls - 10/17/2013, 2:35 PM
This movie will be only a HIT and not a BLOCKBUSTER

Domestic 250 million
Int 300 million
total 550 million
THORION76 - 10/17/2013, 2:40 PM
THIS GOES OUT TO ALL OF US CBM FANS...... STOP FIGHTING/WORRYING ABOUT THE MOVIE AND GET THE WORD OUT AND GO SEE IT MULTIPLE TIMES (2-3).

WE CBM FANS WILL HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE CATCHING FIRE CRAP AND WE NEED 3 OUT OF THE TOP 4 MOVIES OF THE YEAR TO BE CBM'S.

AS A MARVELITE (NOT A DC HATER) I WOULD LOVE TO SEE THE TOP 2 MOVIES BE FROM MARVEL STUDIOS.

THIS IS OUR SITE, AND OUR LIFE LONG DREAMS COME TRUE TO SEE THESE MOVIES AND HAVE THE REST OF THE WORLD ENJOY THEM WITH US. LETS MAKE THIS MOVE WIN BIG IN THE BOX OFFICE.
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 2:40 PM
I wonder if anyone will complain its has too much action?
Groillagrod87 - 10/17/2013, 2:43 PM
I think it will make more. My wife loves Thor she can care less about any other superhero movie except batman and Thor so I think they will get a good amount of women to help that number get to 85 million
JoJo1982 - 10/17/2013, 2:43 PM
With all the hype for Ender's Game, Hunger Games 2, and Hobbit 2... I think Thor will make 600-700 million at the most worldwide

It's not going to reach Iron man 3 numbers
plus it has some big competition
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 2:44 PM
Shit if it sucks why the hell would I give disney my hard earned money? Not going to give my money just because I'm a comic book fan.
Omarvls - 10/17/2013, 2:44 PM
Marvel's next Blockbuster will be Guardians of the Galaxy
dougieisrollingthejays - 10/17/2013, 2:44 PM
Man of steel will make more its openeing weekend, but Thor TDW will make over 700 million in the box office. Think that's only 250 million more than the first film which isn't that hard. Good movie = 100 million more. Boost from the Avengers 100 million. Being a sequal = 50 million.
80sFace - 10/17/2013, 2:45 PM
Opening $100M-$120M
Domestic total $285M
Int'l total $550M
Global total $835M

...if it's well reviewed. Otherwise, drop to $600M global
l0rdleg0las - 10/17/2013, 2:45 PM
They're lowballing the estimate. Thor made 66million it's opening weekend. Since then Hemsworth and Hiddleston have become stars. People got on the all things Avengers bandwagon. Plus it looks awesome. I say 105 million opening weekend
BaneSmash - 10/17/2013, 2:46 PM
If it's worth watching twice or more it better knock my sox off!
dougieisrollingthejays - 10/17/2013, 2:46 PM
Fan girls LOVe thor and loki so thats a lot more movie. But buzz for this movie is just as high as iron man 3. So it will make 700 - 800 million I guess. Would be suprised to see it get higher than that. Especially with the competition.
dougieisrollingthejays - 10/17/2013, 2:47 PM
If this movie has "To much action" At least it won't be "Punch Punch Punch"... And at least the characters were developed in the first movie already. So yeah MOS can calm down a tad over there.
genesis609 - 10/17/2013, 2:48 PM
ENDERS GAME Looks TERRIBLE... i think its gonna be the biggest flop of the year
dougieisrollingthejays - 10/17/2013, 2:48 PM
@beto there is no way thor makes only 100 million more than its first movie.
