COMICS: Marvel Reveals That BATWOMAN's Haden Blackman Will Write New ELEKTRA Ongoing

Zeb Wells was originally lined up to write the "All-New Marvel NOW!" Elektra series, but his new TV series being picked up meant he had to leave the project behind. Haden Blackman (the writer who very publicly fell out with DC over Batwoman creative differences) will now take over!

Marvel Entertainment is excited to announce the addition of Haden Blackman as series writer for Elektra beginning with an All-New Marvel NOW! #1.

On shelves this April, the perilous and dangerous adventures of Elektra Natchios – simply known by her enigmatic moniker of Elektra – will be orchestrated by critically acclaimed writer Haden Blackman (Batwoman). Previously announced with Zeb Wells writing the series, Haden is prepared to take Elektra down the dangerous paths of the Marvel Universe.

“I’m extremely excited about this series,” says Blackman. “Elektra is a complex character who is still searching for her identity and purpose. My goal is to put Elektra into new situations facing terrifying enemies and hard moral choices she hasn’t encountered before. All the while exploring her evolving motives and personality.”

Series Editor Sana Amanat teases, “Elektra sets off on a treacherous trek through the far corners of the Marvel Universe on a mission of salvation. For the first time in her life she must protect instead of kill—in the hopes of finally expelling the demons that have terrorized her for so long.”

Can Elektra choose a new path and walk away from her previous deadly ways? Or will her past now be on the hunt for her? Look for more information in the April issue of the Marvel Previews Catalog.

Blackmans run with Batwoman was great, not an Elektra fan but I will check it out due to his talent.

Sounds like the plot for the Elektra movie.

Who Cares. Not Miller. If he ain't writing, I'm not buying.
LittleDanglyThing - 12/14/2013, 6:26 PM
Batwoman kinda sucked.

Keen on giving this a go.
Hopefully it will lead to a cool feature film.

I'll be sure to pick up this issue.

I'll see what's up with the first issue! It's a shame it's not being written by Miller!

That's very cool that Elektra will be getting a new ongoing series.

I didn't read Batwoman, but I heard good things.

@MAC Jennifer Garner as Elektra for starters. And also, it was a bad movie.

@InfiniteMonkey I know we will get a badass Elektra in the Daredevil TV series.

I wouldn't complain if Marvel Studios greenlighted a rebooted Elektra movie at all. They could show FOX how it's done.

Great choice. Blackman's work at Batwoman was fantastic.

Perhaps Elektra is part of the Netflix Daredevil series?

I love Elektra and Wells is great so this is a must for me.

As for the Elektra movie, it was really bad and Garner was awful. I tried to watch this and Daredevil again last summer, Daredevil was kind of watchable but Elektra sucked. She might appear alongside Daredevil in the Netflix series and I hope that they will cast someone better this time.

@TheDarkPhoenix I bought Jennifer Garner as a CIA agent on Alias, but I didn't buy her as a freelance assassin turned superhero.

She didn't proprerly convey the darkness of the character. They need to hire an actress that is good at playing dark characters. And if they go for authenticity by hiring a Greek actress, that would be even better.

Seeing how Elektra is such an important part of Daredevil's life, I would be very surprised if she didn't make an appearance on the show.

Don't tell me, let me guess. Elektra becomes a lesbian...
Same old garbage...different character. No thanks, I have better things to do...

Interesting I wonder who the artist will be...
MsDarkPhoenix - 12/15/2013, 6:30 AM
@mgeoff88 I agree with you. One of the reasons why I always loved Elektra is because I'm Greek too. But I can't think of any Greek actress right now who could play Elektra. I coslplayed Elektra a couple of years ago and many people told me that I looked better than Garner in the suit (I think they were lying but compliments are always welcome). Anyway, I believe they can find a good actress even if she isn't Greek.

Batwoman was great but more for the art. Characterization was good but pacing and plotting were a bit off.
marvel72 - 12/15/2013, 9:18 AM
could be good,i want a decent artist on the book as well.
mgeoff88 - 12/15/2013, 5:39 PM
@TheDarkPhoenix Oh, that's cool. I'm not actually Greek myself, but I like the culture. The only Greek actresses I could think of that could play a superhero are for Wonder Woman.

Wow, that's awesome! I haven't seen your cosplay, but I'm sure you looked badass. I don't think people would lie to you like that. For her costume on the big screen, she'll have to wear something that covers her legs. People need to take her seriously. I know in DD and her own spin-off movie, her legs were covered... Those costumes sucked though!

I'm sure there is an actress out there that could do Elektra justice.

Elektra's so bad ass... One of my all time favorite female characters. A true warrior.
Lostcause - 12/16/2013, 2:12 PM
I love greek girlies. Batwoman was a good run. Liked Jen in DD. The solo film had a great storyline but was poorly done and the acting was subpar in my book. I love the Thunderbolts run with Punisher hooking up with Elektra and the banter of Deadpool. Good run. Frank and Matt are both going to Cali in the new runs of Punisher and DD. I bet the Greek girlie will drop by for a visit.
