A 13% difference from last year's $84.6M weekend opening. Hmmm

In other news, Thor: TDW is now at $620M worldwide. For Asgard!

Smaug kicked ass! I loved it but Anchorman will take some away next week. The power of Burgundy awaits.

Yea, that sucks. I loved Unexpected Journey. Hopefully, 'There and Back Again' crosses $100M on opening weekend.

Unless Hobbit 2 really picks it up, there is NO WAY it makes more than Catching Fire. Hobbit 2 made $100 million LESS in its opening weekend than Catching Fire did when it opened, so it'll have to pick up some serious speed to catch up. I think maybe a lot of people have realized that it shouldn't have been split into 3 films, which is why this one opened up with less than the first one.

2 of my favorite movies this year doing great!

Smaug was... GREAT.

Seeing it again next week.

Catching fire was awesome too. The Hunger Games topped last years by a mile. Have to catch that again too.

@BboiBlack

The Hunger Games made $691,247,768, while Man of Steel made $662,845,518. That's more than a million, and is consider a mega success compared to Man of Steel because of the budgets (Man of Steel $225 million to Hunger Games $78 million), theater releases (Man of Steel 4,207 to Hunger Games 4,137) and movie formats (Man of Steel 2D, 3D, IMAX and IMAX 3D to Hunger Games 2D and IMAX). Also while Man of Steel was released in the summer, Hunger Games was released in spring. But like 0megaDaGod said, both succeeded by a long shot.

JoJo:

You previously said to me HG:CF would reach $800 million by today. You need to follow box office trends if you are going to make such bold claims.

Lhornbk:

You should understand the HG:CF is not doing that great overseas compared to how The Hobbit will. Catching Fire hasn't even passed Thor's overseas gross yet.

Also got Godzilla that had the whole crowd cheering

Plus that movie with Ben Stiller where I think he's high or something traveling around the world, forgot the name.

LMAO hahaha! This is golden.

Btw, for @WhiteandGold, Avengers, Iron Man, Thor, Thor 2, and Captain America > Hunger Games

I love the MCU movies by the way. The light-hearted touch is needed for a CBM IMO.

Other than Nolan's Batman they can't really create the dark and gritty CBM's to both critical and financial success.

People still feel that superheroes are quite unrealistic, and so directors should put that concept into the film rather than try to make them as serious as Man of Steel.

Weather was a major factor in the domestic opening weekend numbers for the Hobbit. A lot of major population centers faced blizzard conditions this weekend, which depressed attendance. Why is no one reporting that?

Good for both of those movies. I'm really looking forward to watching 'The Hobbit: DOS'. The reviews have been a little mixed among critics which only peaks my interests even more. It's a shame the film isn't released in Australia yet.

I think Catching Fire is worth the wait. I'll check it out on blu ray when its released.

My girlfriend finally made me watch "Hunger Games: Catching Fire". I gotta tell ya, I felt mislead by the title. I thought that "catching fire" meant that she caught gonorrhea or something.
