"There was something about Star-Lord that I immediately gravitated to," writer Sam Humphries told MTV News when asked what made him decide to pen Legendary Star-Lord for Marvel ahead of the release of James Gunn's Guardians of the Galaxy movie this August. "Star-Lord was something that I felt I could have a blast with. He's a charming motherf--ker! He's a down-to-Earth individual. Everyone has a friend like Peter Quill. He's cocky, he's arrogant, but he's always got your back." As for his take on the character, it doesn't sound as if he'll be too different to his big screen counterpart played by Chris Pratt. "Peter sees himself as a legend because he can fly fast, and shoot fast, and flirt fast. But what really makes someone a legend are things buried in yourself that you didn't know you had." Star-Lord will still appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy comic book series, but this solo spin-off will seem him take on his own adventures, including a budding relationship with the X-Men's Kitty Pryde! "You can't get that more long distance than the Earth to the edge of the galaxy. They have this two-way holographic phone, and get to know each other across the stars, and see where this leads them. There's this heat on both sides, but we're going to see how their personalities actually mesh." What do you guys think about Legendary Star-Lord? Will you be picking up issue #1 this July?

Cool I guess. It certainly has potential.
CaptShipwreck - 4/26/2014, 7:26 AM
This looks pretty good for a tie in
Sanity - 4/26/2014, 7:32 AM
I predict this tie-in will be exquisite.
EpitomeofAwesome - 4/26/2014, 7:34 AM
@AvengingWolverine
Isn’t it “Legendary Outlaw”?
marvel72 - 4/26/2014, 7:41 AM
the artwork looks mighty fine to say the least.
AvengingWolverine - 4/26/2014, 7:41 AM
@EpitomeofAwesome
It is, this is the first thing Google came up with...
KINGPEN266 - 4/26/2014, 7:49 AM
WHOS THE BLACK GUY?
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/26/2014, 7:51 AM
Looks interesting. Isn't this part of the 616 universe and not a movie tie in. They gave star lord an alternate cover with the rest of the guardians on guardians of the galaxy marvel now comic and peter had his movie costume.??? This seems that they are continuing that with solo adventures with peter in his movie costume or maybe its just for the cover.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 4/26/2014, 7:53 AM
Yeah this is 616 because of the kitty pryde relationship.
AquamanIsTheBest - 4/26/2014, 8:00 AM
I am SOOOOOOOO FREAKING HAPPY RIGHT NOW!
dcnoob122 - 4/26/2014, 8:01 AM
its not a tie in. Thats his new suit. Its in the 616 universe
KeefNCookies - 4/26/2014, 8:12 AM
Oh good... more MCU forced into the comics. I like the outfit, I really do. WAY BETTER THAN GOTG v3 but damnit, so sick of the MCU overriding 616 comics.
OtakuPapi - 4/26/2014, 8:14 AM
Sam Humphires and Jonathan Hickman are the only writers i trust with cosmic marvel. Bendis just plain sucks lately, his writing in all his books have gotten really dull outside of Uncanny X-Men, everything else he is writing, you can just tell he isn't invested. Guardians has been ok at best, i'm excited to read this. But i really hope somewhere in the near future Hickman takes the healm of Marvel cosmic titles because he sold me with Infinity!
cosmicman - 4/26/2014, 8:20 AM
So is Star-Lord now a pedo? Kitty's like 12, lol. Quill's like 30-40.
ManCalledSting - 4/26/2014, 8:46 AM
Mmmmm to the ehhhhh
SuperiorMrGod - 4/26/2014, 9:09 AM
Kitty Pryde is not a child or a teenager anymore guy. Shes in her twenties.
Melkaticox - 4/26/2014, 9:24 AM
W-Why wouldn't they use his final movie costume? They'll have to change it again when the movie's released...
...So in a few months.
JoshWilding - 4/26/2014, 9:40 AM
cosmicman: When was the last time you picked up a comic book? Star-Lord is late 20s/early 30s, and Kitty is probably around 25 now too...
Ramiel - 4/26/2014, 9:58 AM
Nice art.
charlie2094 - 4/26/2014, 10:33 AM
The cover looks great, costume is great.

Gave up on Bendis' Guardians run, might check this out, could be good
Shroombeast - 4/26/2014, 10:35 AM
I wish Quill would go back to brown hair. The blonde just seems off.
Battabing - 4/26/2014, 10:36 AM
One shot, cool.
On going series, probably won't last.
AlexanderLykins - 4/26/2014, 10:40 AM
@Battabing
Exactly my worry.
jimoakley666 - 4/26/2014, 10:42 AM
Kitty is around 25 and Starlord is around 30.

Thought Kitty was shacking up with Iceman in the funny books, though? Then again, I'm not up to the part where the All New team have left the Jean Grey School yet, so not 100% up-to-date.
Parkerluckpersonified - 4/26/2014, 10:43 AM
he should back off my Kitty -.- she belongs to me
Mercwitham0uth - 4/26/2014, 10:55 AM
I'm buyin.
Thecondor14 - 4/26/2014, 11:19 AM
Oh boy Looks like 616 is turning in to MCU.
TheOverlord - 4/26/2014, 11:29 AM
Kitty was 13 in 1980. That means she's 47 now. Quill was at least 20 when he was introduced in 1976, so he's 58+ now. Not exactly a May-December romance. #realist #marveltimesucks
ChiliConCarney - 4/26/2014, 12:22 PM
@ Kingpen

"Who?"
RedHood3113 - 4/26/2014, 12:34 PM
Its about time! Star Lord deserves his own series... Now if only they could bring back his classic costume, this new one is crap.
Nomis - 4/26/2014, 12:47 PM
THIS ... was a LEGENDARY STAR LORD series.

Old School rules!
aRandomSinisterClone - 4/26/2014, 1:19 PM
lets milk this movie for as much as possible. so star lord is stuck with this new movie look?
LensmanMatt92 - 4/26/2014, 2:16 PM
More pandering to the movies. Keep it classy Marvel.
Mercwitham0uth - 4/26/2014, 2:56 PM
@Nomis

I gots some old school Star-Lord comics that I bought last week at Fan Expo Vancouver

Also bought Marvel Preview #7 (1st Rocket Raccoon). Lot's of vendors selling Marvel Preview #4 though (1st Star-Lord).
StarYeezus - 4/26/2014, 4:44 PM
People bitching about a series they won't even read, as usual.
mgeoff88 - 4/26/2014, 7:33 PM
I really like what I'm hearing with this series. I'm definitely picking this up.

I recently bought CA:WS #1 Director's Cut and Black Widow #1.
ThrotTheUnclean - 4/26/2014, 8:42 PM
Am I the only one that is bothered that Star-Lord is wearing the MCU costume and is not wearing a full helmet? Again, I get that comics can change things up a bit and they want to sell more comics and get people into them after seeing these films. I am just concerned these films might actually [frick] with with the 616 canon.
MightyZeus - 4/26/2014, 9:22 PM
Looking forward to picking this up.

Have to support Star-Lord.
Humperdink - 4/27/2014, 12:48 AM
@Nomis

I never get tired of seeing that.
Beautiful stuff.
