Is Ghostbusters 3 Going To Happen?

Bill Murray is skeptical at best!

Bill Murray was recently on The David Lettermen Show were he said "Ghostbusters 3" is his "nightmare" and that the movie is just "crazy talk."

While taking questions at the "Get Low" premiere, ComingSoon shot the Ghostbusters 3 question into Bill Murray, hoping to back up his comments he made on The David Lettermen Show, who replied:

"You know, it's really the studio starts this stuff," Murray explained. "They start saying 'Ghostbusters.' They want to do it and it's really the world of sequels and bringing these things back again, and then some wiseacre said, 'Hey, we got a couple of new writers who are going to write something.' And I thought, 'Oh, well, maybe there'll be some writers' and there was always this joke, sort of a half-true, half-joke thing like, 'Well, I'll do it if you kill me off in the first reel.' That was my joke, you know?"

"So supposedly someone was writing a script where I actually got killed in the first reel and became a ghost, which I thought, 'Well, that's kind of clever anyway.' But then these guys that were supposedly the writers that were going to do it, they wrote a film ('Year One') that came out and people saw the film and went 'We're not going to do it after all, are we?' So it's just a kind of a dreamy thing. They want to create a new generation of Ghostbusters, you know? They'd just like us to pass the torch."

Bill then went into letting us know the real reason why he would return to the Ghostbuster franchise if given a chance:

"The guys are funny and I miss [Rick] Moranis and Annie [Potts] and Danny. I miss them. I think that's really a big part of it."

I personally would like to see a passing of the torch Ghostbuster movie, if done well. It also depends on who they get to fill the rest of the New Ghost Busting team. But it sounds like this one is stuck in development hell, for now anyway.

bill murray is a pimp in his movies. i heard he was kind of an ass tho. like the whole reason why the ghostbusters game took forever was cause he was the thorn in their ass. but it came out and it was good. i really was hoping for a 3rd one for the longest time now. i actually heard about it like 4 years ago that there would be a 3rd movie.

God I love Ghostbusters and want a sequel so much. I'm worried that Hollywood would screw it up with these typecast actors just being their usual stupid self. They still need to be scientists and not just bumbling Seth Rogans and just some fat silly guy off the street. I recently watched GB2 on TV and realized in hind sight that it was pretty non-climatic hopefully the next one will be epic and fantastic and shoot for the hard PG rating of the first one rather than the "lets make it more appealing for the 6 year olds" that was the second...

I need to go play the Ghostbusters video game on 360 now...

@mutha- anna faris? hell no. i can not stand her at all she plays the same part in every movie and she doesnt have that many. the only one that was different was her in the movie waiting. but yeah seth green i could see. they need to have all the stereotypes. you know like the guy who for some reason is a scientist but doesnt know much (bill murray) and always hits on the ladies. then you got your chubby guy who is always having to do whatever it is no one else does ( dan akroyd)and then your complete nerd (harold ramis) and then some random guy that wants the job (ernie hudson). not to sound sexest but i really dont care to see a female ghostbuster. they had one in the ghostbusters extreme cartoon where egon was the only there and he was training the new recruits she bugged me and then they had some guy in a wheel chair are you serious is he going to be able to run from the ghosts i think not

u want this sequel to be a sucess?? must avoid the following: horny teens ''a la'' american pie, seth rogen, michael cera, jonah hill, dumb girls with big breasts and pot jokes. this film will b an epic failure if its not taken seriously. must haves: harold ramis, dan akroyd, ernie hudson, bill murray, rick moranis (miss seeing him in movies!!) annie potts and sigourney weaver. at least cameos for the 2nd roles. the new generation could take up most of the screen time.

thnx anil! 8) i would like to add tht the idea of a grown up Oscar taking charge of the franchise is, in my opinion, a great idea! but michael cera as oscar .. hell no!!! in my opinion, following GB2, oscar will have grown up knowing everything about ghosts, therefore not being afraid of them. im sorry but michael cera would only make Oscar look like a whimpy, nerdy, scary-cat! no thanks! plus ... michael cera = the possibility of seeing seth rogen and mclovin! dnt get me wrong, i loved mclovin in kick-ass ... but in ghostbusters? no thnx
odie00 - 4/29/2010, 12:45 AM
haha omg i jsut all of a sudden had a vision of mclovin as egons character and jonah hill as ray haha and who would micheal cera be tho? he plays the same damn part in every movie and i cant not stand that guy at all. they need a black guy ok to fill in ernie hudsons part. they could put oscar all grown up that would make perfect sense and since bill murrary is like his dad some of peters personality would rub onto oscar so he could be like the guy that hits on the girls lol

Well [frick]. Maybe I won't be seeing Ghostbusters 3 anytime soon lol. I've been waiting decades for this shit guys how hard is it to get it together!?
Shaman - 4/29/2010, 7:38 AM
They NEED Amy Adams in the third!!! She'd kick ass, be eye candy and be hillarious! Winning combination right there! They better keep Tracy Morgan the [frick] away from this film!!!
