HQ Bane Promo Art For THE DARK KNIGHT RISES

Take a closer look at this previously seen image of Bane now in HQ. The man who broke the Bat looks pretty intimidating. If Tom Hardy looks like this on the big screen then Bane may not need Venom.

Nothing new here unfortunately, but I stumbled across this HQ promo art of Bane which I had only previously seen here on CBM as a small pixelated image on some promotion stickers for The Dark Knight Rises. Some people may have seen this already, but I am on here pretty regularly and haven't caught it myself. If this image is any indication, Bane is going to look pretty ripped on screen come July 20th. The wonders of good lighting! ;)

Not to shabby eh? Sound off below!

bane looks good, yet not entirely accurate to anything done before...sure hope Nolan can pull this off
MrSuperheromoviefan - 4/19/2012, 12:35 AM
looking badass
FrankieDedo - 4/19/2012, 12:45 AM
LOL...if only bane was the half (at least) of this buff
Notice how they make him a lot bigger in artworks and statues than in the real movie..

@SaintSpidey67Re: "It's amazing what a little bit of photoshop can do..."

I know right?!?
AlSimmons - 4/19/2012, 5:22 AM
Grif is right.
Christuffer - 4/19/2012, 5:35 AM
If that's not Bane, well by those rules then Heath Ledger wasn't the Joker either. Never saw the Joker with long hair before, and never saw him take off his makeup either. Joker in the cartoon/comics doesn't seem to have defined lines where his face scars either.
Name - 4/19/2012, 5:53 AM
Fartman, The charcter in TDK was clearly Joker. This guy isnt clearly Bane.
ralfinader - 4/19/2012, 6:11 AM
This is a damn good pic, most impressive I have seen of Hardy-Bane to date. Still agree it doesn't look much like comicbook or animated Bane, and if there were other people in the same picture, it would look worse, because he is short.

Heath Ledger nailed the Joker with just his voice in a trailer. Still waiting to see or hear Hardy nail anything.
Shaman - 4/19/2012, 6:17 AM
I don't care how much CGI Nolan would need to use but i really want Hardy to look like that on screen! Hell, if they cane make Keaton the best looking Batman of them all, this shouldn't be impossible either.
comicb00kguy - 4/19/2012, 6:19 AM
Grif is right. Worst. "Bane". Ever.
CrashTest - 4/19/2012, 6:20 AM
I hope he bulks up and looks like that on screen. If Bane dosen't bulk up in some way, it will be another fail along with cat woman.
Ceejay - 4/19/2012, 6:23 AM
Keaton was the worst looking Batman, BIG head, little body, ridged suit with moulded muscles he could barely move in.

Bane looks better than the stupidity in the comics with the leotard and wrestling mask. You can get away with that silly costume in cartoons and comics but not in a live action movie, nobody in their right mind would put that on and try playing bad guy looking gay as hell!
TheDetectiveComicRises - 4/19/2012, 6:24 AM
It is Bane "some" of you guys need to learn how to give people the opportunity to present these characters in the whole film before judging them. Don't deny how many people knocked Ledger's Joker before it came out, it is like Sam Raimi said it is about putting your own twist on these characters & still respecting them.

Nolan has shown nothing but respect for the Batman legacy he goes around to see what fans think but U must remember no one is going to get things perfect but Nolan comes close. I mean Chris Hemingworth is a different looking Thor I mean Thor is very huge in the comics & animation like Ultimate Avengers 1 & 2 not to say Hemingworth is not huge but he is not as huge as the comics Thor That Thor is Arnold/Lou like huge! but I enjoy Chris' portrayal of the character & I do see similarities in Hemingworth's Thor & in the comic.

Some of U don't like the realism that Nolan brings with Batman but go back & do your research in history because Bob Kane created Batman in the way Nolan presents him as well as Julius Schwatz, Denny Oneill, Frank Miller and other great ones in the business.

Nolan gave headnods to fantasy in Batman Begins in scenes such as when Batman captured Falcone soaring up he looked like Superman I luved that scene I know he used his gadget line but it was so cool, another Scarecrow fear toxin when used on him Batman looked like a demon & to the people of Gotham also and when Scarecrow was on the horse & fire breathing.

Nolan is what Batman needed& so was Christian Bale & the rest. But as for this I think Nolan will do something special with Bane & these characters.

I am so happy that both WB/DC & Disney/Marvel are putting two of the biggest & greatest franchises ever I mean I am a comic book nerd but I understand that these are not only movies for the comic book community these are movies for the whole world to see so I with Marvel & DC the very best!
ElDuce74 - 4/19/2012, 6:24 AM
Would you really want him walking around with a mask that looks like a Mexican wrestling mask on? I don't know, I barely give a sh-t about this character but like the idea behind Bane being this destructive force for Gotham and Batman so I think they nailed it with his look. If I had to watch 2 hours of some hulked out beast with a wrestling mask on...It would distract from what Bane is meant to represent, at least to me. But, again, never cared for the character so I have no ties to Bane. I guess I can understand people hoping it was spot on like the comics but...Joker's look wasn't and Ledger completely represented the essence of the Joker.
DrRockso - 4/19/2012, 6:31 AM
@SetGecko...my triceps are bigger than your quadriceps, I assure you
Shaman - 4/19/2012, 6:32 AM
Anyone with a bat cowl/mask on their head will look like they have a bigger head than they actually do. At least he didn't look like a freaking bobble head like Bale does.
DrRockso - 4/19/2012, 6:34 AM
Unfortunately his waistline grew as much as his deltoids
Shaman - 4/19/2012, 6:35 AM
SetGecko- Look at the picture you put up, measure the arms and compare them to the picture up top. The article's pic has Bane's arms looking twice the size as yours.
TheDetectiveComicRises - 4/19/2012, 6:35 AM
IRONASSASSIN, MrSuperheromoviefan , Fartman, ralfinader, SetGecko, Ceejay, ElDuce74,dgabbor...all Well Said :) & IRONASSASSIN I believe Nolan will pull it off I feel U :)
GingerBird - 4/19/2012, 6:39 AM
TDKR looks sooooooo good! Nolan is one of the few BEST directors working today.
DrRockso - 4/19/2012, 6:45 AM
@SetGecko...hey bro, check it out BAM!! (does twisting back double bicep pose like Arnold)

I think you need another cup of coffee, homey
GUNSMITH - 4/19/2012, 6:49 AM
FROM THE BODY ACNE I'M THINKING MAJOR STEROID USAGE.
GUNSMITH - 4/19/2012, 6:51 AM
TRUE THAT GECKO, BUT WE'LL SEE, NOLAN CAN TELL A STORY, IF THE STORY IS REALLY GOOD THE SUPERFICIAL STUFF FADES AWAY AND ALL YOU GET IS A EXPERIENCE RATHER THAN LOOKS, BUT WE'LL SEE...WE'LL SEE....
Rhino4508 - 4/19/2012, 6:51 AM
Loving this version of Bane. So much better than the Batman and Robin screw up. For those of you who don't think he looks the part, for a realistic, modern day Bane this is actually pretty true to form as far as Knightfall goes. Bane wasn't a Hulk-like brute like he is portrayed in recent comics or in Arkham Asylum and City. Pre-venom he wasn't much larger than the Batman, and even on Venom he still didn't gain that much bulk. Bane was more expert combatant and meticulous planner than over the top "Hulk smash" type of villain. I am definitely looking forward to seeing Nolan's portrayal of Bane in TDKR.
DrRockso - 4/19/2012, 6:52 AM
That figurine looks like 6X mr Olympia Dorian Yates body, the way the lats hang
SageMode - 4/19/2012, 6:53 AM
Awesome pic.

Too bad his mask still sucks ass and looks absolutely nothing like his CB counterpart.
AverageJoe - 4/19/2012, 6:54 AM
@ElDuce74...I think you and some of the other guys are absolutly correct with the look of Bane. If he had that leotard and mask from the comics, it would just not translate well to film, not to unlike it did in the other so-called Batman movie. It was just ill-conceived from the start. I'm not crazy about his "realistic" look in this movie, but it's better than the original. I would have preferred something a little...I don't know...different. That's just me.
acidbath - 4/19/2012, 6:55 AM
I love how all the nolans here worked On the film. W
DrRockso - 4/19/2012, 6:55 AM
@SetGecko... Correct
breakUbatman - 4/19/2012, 7:00 AM
I freakin' love this - just wait, Nolan knows how to make movies.

Third movie in and people can't accept the aesthetics of the trilogy? This is the best Bane ever, looking like the comics and being the character are two different things, was Fassbender any less of a Magneto before he put on the costume? If looks were all it took Peter Sarsgaard would have been one of the best villains in a CBM but we all know how that turned out...

breakUbatman - 4/19/2012, 7:02 AM
Batman Begins > Insomnia
TDK > The Prestige
TDKR > Inception ?
ralfinader - 4/19/2012, 7:09 AM
@Gunsmith - wow, that Bane up top, and the Bane you posted pics of in the comments are not the same person, lol. Thanks for posting those, I almost fell for the veiny muscled fake pic up top.

As for masks, I do not see how that thing he is wearing (which brought out laughter when seen by some friends not into all things geek) is more acceptable than a luchador (spelling?) mask.

As for height, I do not think Bane needed to be 7 foot 6 or something, but at least tall enough to be seen in a crowd easily. Hardy is average height, and obviously not near as ripped as that pic up top is! Oh well, the film is filmed and it is what it will be.

On a side note, and not to do with TDKR or CBM's, I have found the majority of people I know that got heavily into body building were 5 foot 8 or shorter, like a compensation thing.
NickKaseAKAthePieEATERxGETIT - 4/19/2012, 7:13 AM
Lol ... Poor WB
NextHero08 - 4/19/2012, 7:20 AM
Amazing...people never learn. Hope everyone has a taste for shyt sandwiches cuz when this film comes out, omg, all the HATERS are gonna get the shyt rubbed in there [frick]in face.
pepe - 4/19/2012, 7:21 AM
Grif=Girl

Bane´s a midget... Frakking mini-Bane
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/19/2012, 7:32 AM
Looks badass! Just give him another mask.
thetrojan - 4/19/2012, 7:41 AM
tom hardy will do well....no worries.
the photo above looks like a statue.
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/19/2012, 7:43 AM
Would have made Bane look more menacing and imposing.
JDUKE25 - 4/19/2012, 7:58 AM
@Rhino yeah man. Obviously the mask is different, but it is for a purpose. Size wise he is good too. Cant wait
Ranger14 - 4/19/2012, 8:04 AM
"If that's not Bane, well by those rules then Heath Ledger wasn't the Joker either."

I don't think you are getting what some people are saying. If a year or more prior to TDK you would have seen a first image with no description of Batman and the Joker you would still know it was the Joker, even if the hair was longer, etc. The first picture of Batman and this Bane with no description, it would be a stretch to immediately go...."oh, that's Bane". That's the difference.

Ashes2Phoenix@ That's all lighting and a typical lifter pose where you push out your biceps with your hand to make them look bigger. Other images don't suggest he is that big. The image Gunsmith posted is what has been the consistent size we have seen to date.

TheDetectiveComicRises@ No, Chris Hemsworth isn't as big as the Thor from the comics, but he is a helluva a lot closer and more accurate to the comic book Thor in looks and size than Hardy is to the comic Bane. Had they cast someone who is the size of Dwayne Johnson for Bane, I would be perfectly happy. They would have a physical stature that would be imposing and larger than Batman.

If this article's image is going to be accurate for what we see in the film, then it is better than what we have seen and they are going to enhance him through CGI, because that image is not Hardy's actual size. Still don't like his lack of height, but perhaps that is being dealt with post-production. Everything we have seen so far shows him shorter than Bale.

I just don't care for Bane's look. I don't get that people say the Bane from the comic's don't fit the Nolan realism. If you can have a guy wear a gunnysack over his head and be Scarecrow, that is less real-looking than a character whose roots are latin wearing a luchador-style mask that is a traditional wrestling look from south of the border. More real and acceptable than a gunnysack covering your head as far as I am concerned. Not saying I want the Bane from Batman and Robin, but a more accurate Bane could have easily been done by someone who wanted to stay a little more on track with the adaptation.

AlexDeLarge87@ Yes, that would have been much more acceptable for me.
Rhino4508 - 4/19/2012, 8:06 AM
@JDUKE Me either man. I'm really hoping they can talk Nolan into doing a few more. I really want to see a Riddler movie or Scarecrow.
RealGothamite - 4/19/2012, 8:09 AM
I'm not feeling that full mask, it looks like a Gimp mask!

While the film isn't released yet there's just lots of speculation that this film won't work.

Nolan has already made 2 successful Batman movies and while it may not be to everyones taste they've been quality movies none the less.

Whilst both trailers released have been nothing to write home about, I have a confident feeling that Nolan will serve up a fitting Batman movie to top them all.
Rhino4508 - 4/19/2012, 8:11 AM
@Ranger14 If you couldn't piece together that the villain was Bane, you clearly aren't familiar with the Bat's baddies. How many of Batman's villains are ripped and wear a breather mask? And yes, Bane does wear a breather in the comics as well. He doesn't look like a mexican wrestler but he still looks like Bane.
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/19/2012, 8:29 AM
RealGothamite@ Well i kinda meant it should be something in the line of that mask not necessarily THAT mask.
Ranger14 - 4/19/2012, 8:31 AM
Rhino@ I am very familiar with Batman villains and have been reading the comics probably longer than what most people have been alive on these forums. One will be hard pressed to tell me that it is just as easy to recognize this as Bane as it was to recognize the Joker in TDK.
JDUKE25 - 4/19/2012, 8:33 AM
@Rhino nah he's done. I think there are directors that can take over and do just as well. Who knows.
RealGothamite - 4/19/2012, 8:35 AM
@Alex bro I wasn't having a dig at you, I know you didn't mean that exact mask. I just feel Bane with a more luchador type mask would end up with him looking like a Gimp.
GiantNerd0720 - 4/19/2012, 8:35 AM
@Alex That full mask is pimp. Nice find. I would be able to not care about his height if the mask looked like that.
JonathaNisMagnuM - 4/19/2012, 8:40 AM
I really think everyone needs to chill on the TDKR hatin'. You guys are gonna eat your words come JUly. I mean, has anybody ever heard of marketing schemes? Yes, I know AVENGERS is the hot thing right now, & YES I'm gonna enjoy watching it like most will,. but I'm not gonna hate on Batman & Bane. Compared to Avengers, Nolan hasnt shown us SHIT, but once AVENGERS MANIA dies down by Mid-June, or when a new film gets alotta promos & stuff, Batman will start releasing more ads, & possibly more footage. Maybe he will look like this in the final film, maybe not, but I dig Nolan's realistic take on the Bat, very much!
GiantNerd0720 - 4/19/2012, 8:48 AM
I just feel like they completely missed a huge part of why Bane works. When I picture Bane, I see him looking DOWN at Batman like he is a little bitch. Now Batman will have to fight a smaller, brawler, type bane. I really want to like what i'm seeing from this movie but I don't. And it sucks.
