BATMAN BEGINS To Be Converted To IMAX For The AMC Marathon

AMC is preparing a marathon in anticipation of The Dark Knight Rises, with screenings of both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight scheduled. The word now is that the marathon will be screened in the IMAX format, with Batman Begins being converted to the format for the first time. Variety reports:

Batman fans will be able to experience Christopher Nolan's complete Dark Knight trilogy in Imax, as the mega-screen exhib is creating a digital Imax master for the first installment Batman Begins.
Warner Bros. partnered with AMC Theaters to screen the trilogy at a total 296 AMC locations in the U.S., of which 76 now will be in Imax.

"As anticipation for The Dark Knight Rises has risen, our guests have made their voices heard about the kind of experience they expect for this installment of what's become a legendary franchise," said AMC programming prexy Robert Lenihan. "We have been working to ensure we could provide our guests an event that was truly, completely in Imax."

Now remember, Batman Begins was released in 55 IMAX theaters back in 2005, but this time will be the first in Digital IMAX. Select AMC theaters will be playing Batman Begins and The Dark Knight back-to-back on July 19th, leading up to the midnight release of The Dark Knight Rises. And the trilogy marathon will take place at 296 AMC locations, with 76 being in IMAX.

That's still a long time to sit in a theater chair. Then again, it would be nice to see them both on the big screen again.

Although I would imagine you'd get like 15min breaks between movies as the cinema will want you to buy stuff from the food section.

Sadly I don't have an Imax near me so I will watch the first two then head to the cinema to finish the trilogy.
BANE5000 - 6/12/2012, 2:49 PM
WHEW, now thats a relief, I couldve sworn i was gonna read the headline sayin it was being converted to 3D, thank god it finished by sayin IMAX intead :D
BANE5000 - 6/12/2012, 2:51 PM
I would've loved to have seen this marathon at the IMAX theater in my city...but I'm happy enough knowing i got my tickets already for Rises and just need to wait out a month to see it.
jessepostal - 6/12/2012, 2:55 PM
How can you convert to IMAX if not filmed in IMAX? Stretch the hd image I guess. This will probably get an imax blu ray release now too like they did for transformers
santoanderson - 6/12/2012, 2:56 PM
How does an IMAX conversion work exactly? "Okay guys, just take the movie, and scale it up by about 400%. Boom, IMAX."
thewonderer - 6/12/2012, 2:57 PM
I have my doubts about this, as it would be a long time in the theater.

Not as long as that MCU one. Boy, if you sat through that, you have my respect. I love the MCU but 6 movies? holy shit.

3 movies seems feasible. I may do this
cmay13 - 6/12/2012, 2:59 PM
kinda annoying that this is only at AMC theaters and not regal/UA
Minghagz - 6/12/2012, 3:01 PM
I hate AMC (I have a different theater in my area that I prefer)... but it would be cool to see BB in the IMAX.
batfan175 - 6/12/2012, 3:01 PM
@yossarian: yeah it's going to be so awesome to see you finally at a loss for words when these masterpieces are projected in cinemas.
OdinsBeard - 6/12/2012, 3:02 PM

No matter how big the screen it can't fix the plot holes that exist between Batman Begins & Dark Knight. PASS!

Oh yay, too bad so few of the trilogy screenings are in IMAX. I don't think there's any IMAX seats left in California for BB
antonio - 6/12/2012, 3:19 PM
If I can get past the Marvel marathon, I can get pass this.
antonio - 6/12/2012, 3:22 PM
Does anyone know how many IMAX screens The Dark Knight Rises will be playing in front of? I heard it was in the 500's.
95 - 6/12/2012, 3:33 PM
I did the Marvel Marathon for 14 and a half hours with a good half hour between movies. I wish I could do this marathon — but only if shown at Brenden @ Palms. I'm not going to watch a marathon and not see TDKR in 15/70mm IMAX.
antonio - 6/12/2012, 3:44 PM
Real 70MM IMAX>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.Digital IMAX(Liemax).
antonio - 6/12/2012, 4:00 PM
NBA Finals begin tonight. Very likely we may see a brand new TV spot or two.
antonio - 6/12/2012, 4:07 PM
Bane's actual height.

:P JK
Ranger14 - 6/12/2012, 4:08 PM
"i gots my action figures already's boughts"

Gotta love how they made Bane a good 3 or 4 inches taller than Bats. I could handle that on screen.
Eaglesman55 - 6/12/2012, 4:47 PM
Cool
TheCapedCrusader12 - 6/12/2012, 4:49 PM
Bought my ticket today. So worth it especially to see all the at the IMAX and on the big screen again
Bigred20 - 6/12/2012, 5:22 PM
As much as I love BB and TDK I can't sit in a theater for like 6 hours
Not to mention the anxiety of begins and dark knight ending so I can see Rises
Scooby - 6/12/2012, 5:45 PM
Just gonna do it at home. Then TDKR in IMAX.
