Yesterday, principal photography for Marvel's Ant-Man finally kicked off in San Francisco, where the production will shoot briefly before moving to Atlanta, Georgia. Today, Marvel Studios has released the first official image from the Peyton Reed-directed adaptation featuring Paul Rudd as Scott Lang with the Golden Gate Bridge in the background. "The way technology has advanced just in the last few years, picturing this world, what they can do with this kind of story line and character, I thought this could be something that could be very strange and hasn't been seen before," actor Paul Rudd said to USA Today at Comic-Con last month. "I was really excited about being a part of something like that." Check out the still below and be on the lookout for set pics.

Armed with the astonishing ability to shrink in scale but increase in strength, con-man Scott Lang must embrace his inner-hero and help his mentor, Dr. Hank Pym, protect the secret behind his spectacular Ant-Man suit from a new generation of towering threats. Against seemingly insurmountable obstacles, Pym and Lang must plan and pull off a heist that will save the world. Directed by Peyton Reed, Ant-Man stars Paul Rudd, Michael Douglas, Corey Stoll, Evangeline Lilly, David Dastmalchian, Michael Pena, Bobby Cannavale, Abby Ryder Fortson, Judy Greer, Wood Harris, John Slattery and Gregg Turkington with multi-hyphenate T.I., and the film will release July 17, 2015

KelvTwelve - 8/19/2014, 8:14 AM
Is Ant-Man going to be a San Francisco based hero now?

He should go fight Godzilla!
0megaDaGod - 8/19/2014, 8:15 AM
Damn

Never thought Paul Rudd could look even remotely cool

12 for 12

SpiderFraud - 8/19/2014, 8:16 AM
They should make this movie a satire of all the realistic gritty movies that are plaguing everything now.

0megaDaGod - 8/19/2014, 8:16 AM
It's nice that this is being placed in San Francisco too

Somehow, they've done 10 Marvel movies and yet only 2 of them have been primarily based in New York
JoJo1982 - 8/19/2014, 8:17 AM
Let the hype train begin!!!

Nice picture! It's awesome that they're filming part of this in SF. Funny thing is, I was actually in the bay area 3 days ago. I should've stayed there dammit

This looked like a train wreak but it's starting to look promising
who knows it might actually be a hit for Marvel
But Antman is the first of 6 new characters Marvel will release between 2015-2019
My prediction for Marvel's new heroes

2015

2016
Dr Strange
2017

I just can't wait until we have Paul Rudd, RDJ, and Chris Pratt all in a room together. So much snark.

JoJo1982 - 8/19/2014, 8:23 AM

ANTman movie is looking good
PrinceOfCrime - 8/19/2014, 8:25 AM

DrKinsolving - 8/19/2014, 8:25 AM

CookieKid247 - 8/19/2014, 8:28 AM
I'm just glad to be seeing stuff from this movie. It seems to take two steps forward and three steps back each time we get news.
TheRationalNerd - 8/19/2014, 8:28 AM

TheGodButcher - 8/19/2014, 8:29 AM
Awesome, bring it.
Opticblast - 8/19/2014, 8:30 AM
This literally just started filming and we already have our first official look, while the F4 fail reboot is done filming and we have yet to see anything from Fox.
sKeemAn - 8/19/2014, 8:30 AM
I'm hoping T.I. becomes Goliath
TheRationalNerd - 8/19/2014, 8:31 AM
It most certainly looks like it will be "not seriously toned" but a bit more grounded and grittier than previous marvel films.
Nomis - 8/19/2014, 8:31 AM
@ shabat - Sepatown!
