Yesterday, Movie Web got the chance to sit down with Marvel President of Production, Kevin Feige, who was promoting Iron Man 2. Fiege talked about the lead star of First Avenger: Captain America, Chris Evans. And He also talks about potential sequels to 2008's The Incredible Hulk.

On concerns of Chris Evans as Captain America

"Yeah, I mean The Losers and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World I don't think so but frankly yeah, I didn't even consider him for a long time because of the Human Torch. I didn't purposely not consider him but he wasn't on the radar. Frankly I was watching for other reasons Sunshine again, then I was talking to Edgar Wright about him and I started to see how he is growing. By the way I thought he was great in those two Fantastic Four movies, he was a standout in those movies. I started to look at how he's grown since then. We sat down and talked in a meeting and I said, oh my God, (Steve Rogers) is sitting in front of me right now and I hadn't seen it for a long time. When we sat down and specifically started talking about Cap, yeah it was immediate. Cause Cap has a lot of size and is nothing like Johnny Storm. As you start to see more of Chris and where he is growing as an actor it's into a much more Steve Rodgers type place. He's in England now; he got on one of the first flights after the volcano nonsense went away. He's over there now prepping and rehearsing and the pictures that are coming back and the costume tests are pretty stunning," finished Fiege.

On a potential Incredible Hulk sequel

"Not before The Avengers," Fiege confirmed.

On reintroducing Hulk with The Avengers

"We certainly plan on it. He was there in "The Avengers
" #1 and in "The Ultimates" #1 so certainly the Hulk is a key part of these films leading up to The Avengers. Iron Man 2 has some clues to where these timelines take place as they relate to each other. So I certainly think Hulk will be a player on that team."

On Edward Norton's return

"A lot of it depends on the story, a lot of it depends on the schedule and a lot of it depends on the lofty ideas that we have. You also have to work with the realities of people's schedules as to when they are available and stuff like that. So we reserve the right to say Hulk will be in it for sure, we'll see about Banner."

:D
Ranger14 - 4/25/2010, 2:56 PM
Mike @ Umm....he is Marvel's President of Production. I would certainly hope he knows something about Cap. ;-)
PWhite - 4/25/2010, 2:59 PM
I have a little faith in him. Just a little scared cause he plays the same kind of role in all his films. I haven't seen losers yet but the preview kinda shows that he's acting the same in that also.
DCMarvelFreshman - 4/25/2010, 3:02 PM
I have so much more faith in Chris Evans now.

When Kevin Feige says that when he sat down with Evans, he saw Steve Rogers. That reminds me of how they saw Chris Hemsworth as THOR.

He will do just fine.
PWhite - 4/25/2010, 3:03 PM
@teabag ya I havent seen that 1 either.
JoshWilding - 4/25/2010, 3:04 PM
Damn, I wish I knew where they were in the UK!!! And I completely agree with what Feige is saying about Evans - the guy is perfect for Cap and none of us noticed it..! :) Great find MF!
JLAvenger23 - 4/25/2010, 3:07 PM
I aso have lots of faith in Chris Evans for the Star Spangeld Avenger, he is now a more mature guy and I think he can handle that roll. Need to see Sunshine by the way =P

ANd I hope MArvel can get it done with the other movies, a Hulk 2nd is way too cool idea, no doubt about it!!

GO Chris!!
contrast - 4/25/2010, 3:07 PM
Wow. That actually gives me a lot more hope that Marvel didn't just randomly pick someone out of a hat, which is what I was pretty much thinking after it was revealed that he didn't audition.

Also, shameless self-promotion that actually vaguely has to do with this, as U.S.Agent is Captain America-ish...but

@teabag i never heared of it till now, but thanx ill check it out.
@Gambit Me 2. Ive been following this site for only gods knows how long and i just sign up 2day.
Kyos - 4/25/2010, 3:21 PM
I'm actually watching Sunshine right now... not the funny Evans you know from some other movies...

He'll do fine!
BIGBMH - 4/25/2010, 3:22 PM
You know what I realized? Evans is in a sort of similar position as Cap is in this movie.
Chris Evans- Feels the pressure of playing a larger than life inspirational figure to both the soldiers of WW2 and the heroes of the Marvel universe.
Steve Rogers- Feels the pressure of having to be the only Super Soldier of what was supposed to be an entire army of super soldiers.
They both kind of have a lot to live up to, but want to do their best to live up to the great responsibility they've been handed. Maybe that will show in his performance.

MONTEZ - 4/25/2010, 3:25 PM
i get that it is hard to see evans as steve rogers because of the other characters he has played in movies. most of his roles are not like cap, but we can all agree he plays those roles he is cast in very well. i have a lot of faith in evans. every role he is in he brings it, not his fault on which roles he gets, the guy takes the work that is given to him. he will do great, and all the haters will of course jump on the band wagon.
MONTEZ - 4/25/2010, 3:30 PM
also nobody liked evans in push? he was a cocky hustler who became the leader of the group. have not seen sunshine yet, also evans was good in street kings as well.
PWhite - 4/25/2010, 3:35 PM
I completely 4got about push. that was a good movie. Dakota Fanning is a diffrent story though.
Ryden - 4/25/2010, 3:45 PM
Cool news, I'm really hoping for Hulk 2 after the Avengers, the first one ruled and it really deserves a sequel. Chris Evans as Cap will be fine...I'm looking forward to Cap.
InTylerWeTrust - 4/25/2010, 3:49 PM
Evans will be good.

That pic of Hulk looks funny though :)

And cue the "Evans as _____ LOL" pics and utterly blind hatred from a certain user here in 3...2...1...
mindform - 4/25/2010, 3:50 PM
OMG! It really sounds like everything is falling into place, it makes me feel much more confident. And I'm sure Evans will do fine. Also, they have to bring Norton back.
MONTEZ - 4/25/2010, 3:55 PM
ryden@ eric bana was not bad as banner, the film was bad. the film sucked but imo bana was good.
ngu13 - 4/25/2010, 3:56 PM
want pics
MONTEZ - 4/25/2010, 3:57 PM
my bad ryden, sorry that was intended for furys' comment, not yours. sorry.
Colton - 4/25/2010, 3:59 PM
this is cool. even more exciting now that i kno hulk is in.
Ranger14 - 4/25/2010, 4:04 PM
wolverine@Fiege's interview didn't come across to me as someone who was just saying something to make Evans sound good. There's a difference between giving an opinion as to what you think an actor is going to do in a role and being the person who interviewed him and made the decision to hire him. Of course he genuinely felt the way he stated, otherwise he wouldn't have hired him.
Ryden - 4/25/2010, 4:08 PM
@wolverine'sfury- Your WELL over exaggerating. How is Chris Evans the worst actor ever? He's a very talented actor, saying otherwise is just wrong..incorrect. Let me guess you were an Ackles fan-boy andgot pissed off when Evans got the part? Come on if you're going to make an argument at least come up with one with some point to it.
Phileo26 - 4/25/2010, 4:33 PM
I REALLY hope that the costume/outfit that evans is wearing in the pic at the top of this article is what he ends up wearing in the movies that he will be in!! IT LOOKS PERFECT!!
Ranger14 - 4/25/2010, 4:42 PM
telavizion@ What part of the discussion for weeks have you missed? He played a serious role in Sunshine...Street Kings, but yet people want to ignore that and blast him based on FF and The Losers (and most will say he did a great job with those roles). He's an actor and gets paid to play the part he is given. He was supposed to play the smart ass role in those movies. It doesn't mean that is all he can do. Obviously, you haven't seen his other movies where he doesn't fit that role.

Should we just say Clint Eastwood...cowboy for life? Then we wouldn't have had Dirty Harry.
StephenStrange - 4/25/2010, 4:43 PM
@ Wolverine'sFury: Yep. Your wrong
Phileo: I disagree. The colors suck.
ChrisMc - 4/25/2010, 4:48 PM
How do you have The Hulk and no Bruce Banner?
PWhite - 4/25/2010, 4:52 PM
@Tela that's what i thought he'd b like. I'm gonna go watch losers tonight. I still cant picture him as cap. I kno i might get crap 4 dis but itd b like if they casted adam sandler as Superman. I like chris evans, just not as cap.
Ryden - 4/25/2010, 5:06 PM
@telavizion- Um no...Banner needs to be in this film, adn quit with the Evans moaning. He's not in the same Universe as his Human Torch is he? This isn't like he would ever run into himself or whatever, they're two competley different universes.

The only time bitching about this would be exceptable is if say Sam Rockwell who played Justin Hammer in IM2 ended up playing Ant-Man in the Avengers...thats a problem. Evans as Cap is not so just quit bitching.
DrDon - 4/25/2010, 5:25 PM
Hey, MarvelFreshman, it's Steve Rogers, not Steve Rodgers. Maybe do some editing the next time you cut and paste and article, kid.
Ranger14 - 4/25/2010, 5:44 PM
Hey Dr., it is a comment directly quoted from another source interview and you do not edit the spelling when using a direct quote. If the original source misspells it, then that is their bad, not MarvelFreshman's. If MarvelFreshman added in his own comments and misspelled it, then you would have a point, albeit condescending in tone.

The end of your comment is kind of humorous though, considering your attempt at being the spelling police... "next time cut and paste and article, kid." ;-)
BIGBMH - 4/25/2010, 5:56 PM
Can someone please tell me how to pronounce Feige phonetically?
canadianbacon - 4/25/2010, 6:18 PM
well im very pleased to hear him at least talking about another hulk movie and the possibility of an appearance in the avengers
i really hope this comes true :) !!!
.....ps BRING BACK EDWARD NORTON
IsaiahBradley - 4/25/2010, 6:25 PM
I good find. Evans will be fine. I don't get the concern. We need Norton in that movie. It would be the comic movie equivalent of Ocean's Eleven with dope actors.
GUNSMITH - 4/25/2010, 6:39 PM
HE NEEDS TO BE PERFECT FOR CAP ROLE...
48and2 - 4/25/2010, 7:18 PM
Hey for once Feige looks relatively normal, and not like one of the Black Lanterns lol.

@Rickly - that'd suck, but they could pull it off. Actually it seems like they could easily just do all the cg and have Norton come in anytime a hole in his schedule opened up. There is STRONG demand to see him pop up at least a time or two - I think everyone wants to see Norton up there against RDJ, because he's nearly as strong an actor. I know I sure do. It wouldn't really require much screen time - gonna be hard to balance all these guys anyway.

and bah as far as Evans goes, most of the people complaining so much about him have probably not seen any of those: Sunshine, London, Push, Loss of a Teardrop Diamond.

I bet you %75 of Evans haters are just basing their assesment on FF.

goldilocks - 4/25/2010, 7:26 PM
This is the second article today that reassures me that Marvel knows what they are doing with respect to Cap and the Avengers. After all the drama about the search for the lead role in Cap, I was happy when I heard Chris Evans' name. Then, the more I thought about it I became more on the fence. But after reading this interview with Feige and the one where Evans said he's having "sleepless nights" over the responsibility of taking on the role, I can see that they are on to something special.
Thor is my favorite Avenger but the casting of RDJ and Ed Norton as Tony Stark and Bruce Banner respectively was inspired work. Everybody seems to be okay with Hemsworth as Thor but as the character most near and dear to my heart I'm hoping you all are right. I do think Kenneth Branagh as director was an inspired choice but all in all Marvel has not let me down once when it comes to producing their own movies. We as fan boys tend to forget that as much as we love these charcters, the people at Marvel have a hell of a lot more invested in this than we do.
The lingering issue for me after this article is the continued head butting going on between Marvel and Norton. The fact that they haven't dismissed him like they did Terrance Howard gives me hope that they are playing this thing out to drop a bomb and announce that he'll be a part of the Avengers when they are assembled. I haven't heard anybody that is not for bringing Norton back as Banner.
I'm giddy over the fact that Feige confirmed my earlier post that the storyline will be based on the Ultimates. As such though, Kev... Come on man! You've got to work this thing out with Norton and Norton you've got to work this thing our with Marvel. Your wrangling over creative control cost the Hulk blockbuster status ala Iron Man. Everybody seems to love the finished product, except Norton that is. He was aiming for a Dark Knight like exploration of the character and coming off Iron Man's success, who's to say the Hulk couldn't have delivered that if you all were on the same page? Norton just needs to realize where Marvel was coming from coming into the Hulk, coming out of bankruptcy and seeing some of their other franchises mishandled by other studios and directors. They just weren't at a point to take too many risks after "Angst" Lee sissified the first Hulk movie. But with the Dark Knight having answered some of those questions about what fans really want and Iron Man poised to delve deeper into Tony Stark, we should all be able to see in hindsight that Norton had a point too.
Please put all this aside and show comic books fans and non-comic book fans alike why us comic afficianados love these characters so much in the first place. It's not about being the geeks that we are. It's about being true connissuers of good story telling...and nobody...I mean nobody...that means Shakespeare, Homer, Tennessee Williams, Cecile B. Demile, Aesop etc ....you name it....has done that better than Marvel.
In Stan We Trust!
Can't you all tell how hyped I am?
Just wait until next year when that rumbling you hear in the distance turns into a blinding flash of lightning and you are struck by the awesome power of the son of Odin, old goldilocks himself! (que diabolical laughter!)
Upupandaway - 4/25/2010, 7:37 PM
@Dr. Donald Draper: Talking about editing, it's "an article" not "and article." @Marvelfreshman is one of the best contributors to this site. Don't give him shite.
spiderman620 - 4/25/2010, 7:47 PM
i was acctually saying he was good for the role sience the announcment that he got the role
BIGBMH - 4/25/2010, 7:49 PM
@DannyRand401, Thank you.
CaptainOtter - 4/25/2010, 7:55 PM
"watching, for other reasons, sunshine". am I reading into this too much, or was he watching that movie to get a better look at someone else for a different Marvel character?
ReillyParker - 4/25/2010, 8:09 PM
"He was there in "The Avengers" #1 and in "The Ultimates" #1 so certainly the Hulk is a key part of these films leading up to The Avengers."

Ok so is it safe to say that through that reasoning we can expect Ant-Man and Wasp? Cause they were in it from the start of those same two line of comics as well.

@CaptainOtter: OR he coulda been watching it just cause he likes the movie. LoL
NightAvenger - 4/25/2010, 8:21 PM
Chris Evans is perfect for Captain America. Nuff said.
Rosas - 4/25/2010, 8:30 PM
i hope norton comes bak cuz i cant see any1

jusme6 - 4/25/2010, 8:40 PM
I'm glad people keep asking about Norton. KEEP THE NORTON/HULK MOVIES COMING!!!

Vital - 4/26/2010, 12:55 AM
I can't believe people are still getting upset over Evans lol... especially when they exaggerate really really badly. If you're going to exaggerate that much, at least attempt humor. Saying Chris Evans is the worst actor ever is like saying Carrot Top is the best looking guy ever lol. It's just as ridiculous.
LEEE777 - 4/26/2010, 1:54 AM
Man CHRIS EVANS looks like a turd as CAP in that picture up top, horrible picture!

Hopefully he wont [frick] it up, better not!

Vital @ EVANS ain't the greatest actor lol, but he'll do a good CAP just a pity he's played MARVEL SUPERHERO before...

Oh and...

Heh heh
CorndogBurglar - 4/26/2010, 5:13 AM
he said the Hulk will be there, not necessarily Banner.

Iron Man tells General Ross that they're putting together a team and they can help with his Hulk problem.

its pretty safe to assume that Hulk will still be on the run, and the Avengers will have to catch him. if thats the case, then they won't NEED Banner. it will be told through the Avengers point of view, so no, Banner doesn't NEED to be in it.

before anyone says, "oh, but Banner was controlling Hulk at the end of IH." you guys that will undoubtedly say that clearly have no idea about how the Hulk works. Banner NEVER has full control. and when he doesn, it doesn't last entirely too long. So it can be done without showing Banner. it SHOULDN'T, but it COULD.
StephenStrange - 4/26/2010, 7:27 AM
Has anybody ever watched those Charlie Brown/ Peanuts cartoons where when the parents or the teachers talk to the gang it sounds like a muffled trumpet? When any adult talks it sounds like wah wah wa wa wah wawa wah wah
Have you guys ever heard that?

Well trying to read these comments is just like that.

Except for LEEE. He sounds more like Woodstock
