Though the DVD & Blu-ray release of the highly anticipated Iron Man 2 blockbuster, isn't until next week, September 28th; a good friend RealIrOnMaN of Spidermedia, has come in contact with the blu-ray and it's glorious features.

Up front admiring the sequel's DVD menu, compared to the original film's bland menu, he says one feature consists of director Jon Favreau discussing the near-ending scene with Samuel L. Jackson's Nick Fury & Robert Downey Jr's Tony Stark; discussing none other than the Avenger initiative, described as "geek heaven".

"Yeah, that's from "The Incredible Hulk" (news report on S.H.I.E.L.D monitor), which means it took place before "TIH". If you look you see the the crater on the other monitor, that's the "Thor" thing. That's where the hammer was recovered. This is just a geek heaven here.

And if you think that anything on this monitors is not something we (in Marvel) didn't talk about for hours - you are crazy! And if you look on that one, see there is a map up there, so... if you look at those maps, each one of those locations corresponds to something in the Marvel Universe. I'm not supposed to say that.

And if you look on each one, and I know what they mean, but I'm not gonna say it, but I'm gonna say this: Two of them relate to "The First Avenger: Captain America", One of them relates to "Thor", and the one in Africa relates to Black Panther."

With there being many shots of the maps in the scene, see if you can spot them by clicking the screencaps below.

npatil - 9/19/2010, 5:36 PM
i think we all pretty much figured that out from the screenshots that came out back in may.

eventually there will be a jla scene talking about the formation sometime in the future and that will be sick....
DaenerysTargaryen - 9/19/2010, 5:36 PM

OverlyManlyMan - 9/19/2010, 5:41 PM

someguy123 - 9/19/2010, 5:42 PM
i think this pretty much confirms that a black panther movie is in works, and he'll probably be in Avengers 2.
LucasMend - 9/19/2010, 5:46 PM
Nice cant wait for the DVD! I hope we get some of these on the regular double disc DVD
marvel72 - 9/19/2010, 5:46 PM

""Yeah, that's from "The Incredible Hulk" (news report on S.H.I.E.L.D monitor), which means it took place before "TIH"."

Well, that was pretty clear. At the end of Incredible Hulk, he said they were putting together a team, while he didn't become a part of the Avengers Initiative until the end of Iron Man 2.

Time is really going to pass by slowly in these movies.I believe they said 6 months have passed since Iron Man 1, and The Incredible Hulk and Thor take place around the same time as Iron Man 2.I would imagine Avengers takes place not long after. So between Iron Man in 2008 and The Avengers in 2012, less than a year would have passed. It's a good thing they don't have any small children in these movies.
ASSASSIN666 - 9/19/2010, 6:06 PM
Why didn't you mention the one in the water? Can anyone say Namor?
Creature - 9/19/2010, 6:13 PM
I really don't care for 9 characters being introduced in 1 movie. Iron Man 3 better kick ass.
someguy123 - 9/19/2010, 6:33 PM

InSpace - 9/19/2010, 6:34 PM
Assassin666andAnil Rickly@ The one in the water is Cap and the other one is Winter Soldier/Bucky
hbk82287 - 9/19/2010, 6:59 PM
Namor in the ocean @someguy
RockNRollCC - 9/19/2010, 7:06 PM
@inspace which one is bucky then? the one in Europe or in Greenland?!
TheDarqueOne - 9/19/2010, 7:08 PM
Nice article.

Although I disagree that the original movie's DVD was bland. The representation of Iron Man is so perfect that I left it running (sound off of course) for long periods. What a lovely piece of animated art that is.

StuckInPanels - 9/19/2010, 7:09 PM
he had to tell us that....I mean we all figured it out pretty quickly from the screen shot. Who else would be in Africa
Jeri - 9/19/2010, 7:21 PM
LOL @ npatil

You do know theirs a difference between Marvel and DC right? Was JLA just a typo?
InSpace - 9/19/2010, 7:48 PM
RocknRollCC@ Ya sure thats europe I thought it was like kinda near russia , if its russia than it HAS to be Winter soldier.

Anyways what is the map all about, is it like a map for future recruits for the avengers initiative or what ?
StuckInPanels - 9/19/2010, 7:51 PM
@InSpace...NOOOOO YOU THINK!!! just kidding...yeah those are meta-human hot-spots
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 9/19/2010, 7:52 PM
OH MY PHUCKING GOD, I never noticed that
Vital - 9/19/2010, 8:00 PM
California one could be Hawkeye, Intruder... idk where Hawkeye is from lol.
legionbecks - 9/19/2010, 8:03 PM
damn marvel is leading in silver screen with their cbms while apparently dc universe is leading with their cbms in animated features.
CharlieValentine - 9/19/2010, 8:07 PM
Intruder@ Where do you see an eastern-europe spot? The only spot in Europe is placed right over Denmark right?
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 9/19/2010, 8:08 PM
Yeah one of those sea spots is Winter Soldier
skidz - 9/19/2010, 8:18 PM
WOW, I probably saw these and didn't really notice. Good eye for detail. Both England and Africa. I never noticed that.
AngryRob - 9/19/2010, 8:25 PM
No Winter Soldier. Please god no Winter Soldier, leave Bucky Dead.
skidz - 9/19/2010, 8:36 PM
Provided Black Panther winds up in the Avengers and the part is well written, Djimon Hounsou as King Tchalla would be dramatic gold! And the action would be blast, too.
tricklove187 - 9/19/2010, 9:10 PM
If you connect the locations with a single line, then stare at it for several minutes, you will begin to see that you are a loser.

A dot on a map is a reference to Black Panther...whoopty doo!

That's like saying Bruce Wayne is referencing Superman in Batman Forever when he tells Dick "the circus is halfway to Metropolis by now." Big F---ing deal.
panther1 - 9/19/2010, 9:20 PM
a Cameo in the Avengers could be a start but the Panther needs to be a Full on movie Hounsou could work though i believe Chiwetel Ejiofor could do just as good if not better as Tchalla,The African American as well as the African people need to see a strong smrat balck hero thats not half evil!

Panther before Powerman!
tricklove187 - 9/19/2010, 9:21 PM
@ralphmouth
Yeah that quote must have been hinting to the Superman movie that was made 9 years later.
MrSuperheromoviefan - 9/19/2010, 9:26 PM
YES!!!
Bring him as big cameo in the Avengers!
Vital - 9/19/2010, 9:46 PM
tricklove, calm down.
Orehrepus - 9/19/2010, 10:02 PM
Mass nerdgasm next week! Hope it's just as soon where I am. LOL!
JohnTom88 - 9/19/2010, 10:12 PM
DC exclusive dudes - automatic thumbs down for each Marvel news, for what?
Angelus - 9/20/2010, 12:57 AM
@ Intruder & CharlieValentine - I think it looks like it's in Norway. Doesn't Donald Blake go on a holiday there in the comics or something like that?

BMP
tricklove187 - 9/20/2010, 1:46 AM
@Intruder-sick burn
blah - 9/20/2010, 2:19 AM
i hope the other one is namor , because that would be a awesome solo film and it would be cool to see him in the avengers.
Orphix - 9/20/2010, 2:34 AM
Angelus@ Yep that is the southern tip of Norway. I was wondering if that was where the drone plane took off that Captain America was on when it exploded??

Maybe SHIELD know Cap is out there and picking up clues as to where to look??

Fav said there were two spots relating to Cap - the second could be the one just off the coast of Greenland where he could be found??

In the comics didn't he get picked up by a nazi agent before The Avengers got to him?
elessarundomiel2382 - 9/20/2010, 2:43 AM
so i recently rewatched iron man 2, and during the courtcase justin hammer says a sentence that had sword and shield in it. Obviously S.H.I.E.L.D. is the shield and sword is in fact HYDRA according to Marvel's recent comics titled S.H.I.E.L.D. where they tie marvel universe's history with that of our own. so they could be heading somewhere big in Avengers with the whole HYDRA vs SHIELD thing. Im guessing there's gonna be something about vibranium in there. after all during the CIVIL WAR run HYDRA and rogue SHIELD agents were mining for vibranium in the savage land. so maybe in the movie verse they could try to mine in AFRICA. this would be a good opening to introduce Black Panther. This also introduces Captain America's Shield and also Iron Man's new element. I hope there's a mention of adamantium too and an explanation as to how Nick Fury got those three claw-like scars on his eye.
Orphix - 9/20/2010, 3:09 AM
elessarundomiel2382 @ Totally agree with you BIG TIME, my friend.

I was actually giving this WAY too much thought yesterday as I was in a long car journey stuck in traffic on my own! I was just trying to work out who the villain(s) might be.

Clues about the cast suggests that this film is gonna be very SHIELD-centric. No Pepper Potts and no Jane Foster (as both actors have said confirmed they're not in it) so we're not going to be seeing much of the main characters home lives at all. More about them teaming up and being The Avengers.

The Avengers is going to be driven by SHIELD, especially as some of the members are going to be out-an-out SHIELD operatives (Black Widow and Hawkeye).

Captain America: The First Avenger is gonna be setting up a lot of early WWII HYDRA and SHIELD stuff so I am guessing that would be why he would be useful to get involved in the contemporary story as well as making him 'team leader' as he may be the only one of The Avengers who has 'first hand' experience with these guys.

I still think Loki/Hulk thing will get the team together in the first act BUT SHEILD are really 'putting together a team' to combat the international terrorist organisation that is HYDRA.

However HYRDRA must have stepped up the threat that they possess. So maybe they have got their hands on something quite sexy and incredibly dangerous. What that might be could be anyones guess (Cosmic Cube, Infinite Gauntlet, etc ???) Was also thinking about the name 'The Avengers'. Why would SHIELD call this team that?? What exactly or who are they avenging??
