Roughly 2 weeks ago, the attached director of 20th Century Fox's long productive Daredevil reboot, David Slade, hinted that news was soon coming, though soon after it was revealed that it wasn't much "news" at all. Despite that however, The Hollywood Reporter has now learned who'll pen the reboot's script, as well what story arc the film will be adapted from.

Brad Caleb Kane, a writer-producer on cult Fox TV show Fringe, has been hired to pen the franchise’s relaunch, which has high ambitions: Kane is being asked to adapt one of the most influential and acclaimed comic stories of all time, Frank Miller and David Mazzucchelli’s "Born Again" run from Daredevil.

Despite the studio rebooting the franchise, the "Born Again" story arc was expected to be used in the sequel to the Ben Affleck-starrer, with director Mark Steven Johnson showing interest in the storyline.

Frank Miller's "Born Again" story arc details Murdock’s girlfriend selling his secret identity to bolster her drug addiction. Kingpin gets a hold of the information and slowly but surely ruins Murdock’s life. So, essentially, Daredevil's fall to insanity and destitution at the hands of the Kingpin, as well as his subsequent struggle to build a new life for himself. What do you think?

Anyhow, THR further state that "Kane is a Daredevil fan, and his energy and passion for the material helped him nab the job." And with Slade directing, Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark of Chernin Entertainment are producing.

Nice! Hope the movie is actually good.
Hellsing - 6/7/2011, 6:40 PM
Well they certainly have good writer involved and good story to adapt lets hope fox studios don't get to involved with the scripting and other creative decision making. Cause they know how to [frick] up
TorturedXGenius - 6/7/2011, 6:49 PM
Daredevil is so simple to adapt, just the juxtaposition of him being a vigilante and a lawyer...he dresses as a devil but is a catholic...it's so much story there, also no Leather...he's a EFFIN ninja (in essence) no leather..
kurekurcubic - 6/7/2011, 7:03 PM
well, wolverine will be released in 2012. how are things going for daredevil i wouldnt be suprised if they set that for 2012 also.first class 2 wont happen before 2014.
so that leaves fantastic 4 and deadpool for 2013.
P862010 - 6/7/2011, 7:05 PM

I have hope in this. Not gonna bad mouth it until I see it. :D

Born Again is a great graphic novel. It's the only DD comic I've read aside from one where he goes to japan and fights ninjas or whatever (can't remember the title of it.) Hope they do it justice.

@Intruder

Sounds good to me. They have so much on their plate that they are going to have to pick and choose. Some rights are gonna revert back eventually. Better for us.

@kurekurcubic

Wolverine probably won't happen. Although Fox keeps saying it's moving forward, a few week later it gets stalled again, and not to mention that filming for the movies was suppose to take place in Japan and we all know what happened with the Tsunami and all. But who knows.

Damn Born Again is on the list of books I need to read. Daredevil is one of my favorite Marvel characters but I still have not read this story. So lame.
vermillion - 6/7/2011, 7:22 PM
Alreg- Definitely worth picking up. It's pretty depressing though. Poor ol Murdock.

Fox should let Fantastic Four go. I couldn't give a crap about them honestly though. They're just not that interesting.

Dr. Doom would be such an awesome villain for Iron Man.
One2ephu - 6/7/2011, 7:24 PM
shit, does marvel have to keep rebooting everything.
They're gonna be the death of the CBM.
marvel72 - 6/7/2011, 7:24 PM
classic storyline, most of the time in the comic he was just kicking ass as matt murdock didn't even wear the costume.

great scene involving the kingpin in a dojo & he f*cks up about ten karate men.

@ intruder

releasing fantastic four back to marvel would be a dream come true.

silver surfer by marvel studio's (i've just messed myself)
FlappyJax - 6/7/2011, 7:25 PM
My favorite Daredevil story. If this is cast well, It'll be AMAZING.
LionPepsiJuice - 6/7/2011, 7:27 PM
a bit early to do the born again storyline isn't it? save the best daredevil storyline for a sequel where the audience is already attached to Matt Murdock
vermillion - 6/7/2011, 7:27 PM
marvel72- I'd love to see a Silver Surfer movie.
Snuffles - 6/7/2011, 7:36 PM

Interesting.
I'm interested.

I'll give it a go, also i'd have to pick up the graphic novel.

Owlman88 - 6/7/2011, 7:41 PM
will it include the Avengers part of the arc? :P
Ghostt - 6/7/2011, 7:42 PM

you made what whoa123?
TheBatman938865 - 6/7/2011, 7:54 PM
just make make the sequel to the directors cut version! save time on casting....and let us forget the theatrical cut lol
Marikina - 6/7/2011, 7:54 PM
Same old $#@! Throw "Born Again" out there to pretend that there's direction, but nothing really happens. Why "Born Again" to begin with, if they're going for a reboot? Using that storyline assumes the players are established, which they're not.
l0rdleg0las - 6/7/2011, 7:56 PM
i don't think the Born Again storyline is the best for a reboot of the franchise. i think that it is a great idea for a sequel, but for a reboot and retelling of the beginnings of Daredevil. I think the best course would be to go with Frank Millers Daredevil: The Man Without Fear arc
rottencotten - 6/7/2011, 8:01 PM
I saw nothing wrong with the first DD...I was hoping for a sequel, and now a reboot...=(...I have never been a big DD fan, but would still go see this...and those complaining about Kingpin are probably the same that complained about Heimdall...get over it!!..
whoa123 - 6/7/2011, 8:02 PM
@SamHell- fan posters for DD
luckylu - 6/7/2011, 8:04 PM
im oh so excited yet so very nervous
SamHell - 6/7/2011, 8:15 PM
Or Jim Carrey as the Black Panther
vermillion - 6/7/2011, 8:20 PM
I do find it hilarious that Heimdall is "The whitest of them all" but he's black in Thor.

I loved Heimdall in Thor though!

scmittydude - 6/7/2011, 8:25 PM
worry not about costume problems if they're doing Born Again. it barely has the costume in it at all, it's a matt murdock story, not a daredevil story.
Illuminatus - 6/7/2011, 8:28 PM

SCOURGE - 6/7/2011, 8:53 PM
This movie is going to be EPIC FAIL and they haven't even started yet...

Here's why...IF this was the plan for the sequel right along, then the first movie should have focused on Matt and Karen's relationship so that when she sells his secret identity instead of having horse-face Garner as Elektra.

Not to mention the fact that the Kingpin already knows that Matt is Daredevil.
Ryguy88 - 6/7/2011, 9:11 PM
I'm definitely giving this a chance, Slade is decent despite his Twilight run (which was the best reviewed in the series.) I think Fox is taking things seriously now with First Class and trying to nab Aronofsky to helm The Wolverine. Daredevil has the potential to be a heavy hitter if it's done right, he's a great character with some great stories.
Ryguy88 - 6/7/2011, 9:17 PM
Intruder, you may be right about F4 but I think that Fox will wait 3 or 4 years before they make the next X-men movie. This one is under preforming so far and having 3 consecutive years of X-Men/Wolverine/X-men may run their franchise into the ground. Also, Vaughn will have an opportunity to direct another movie in between if they spread it out a bit.
AlSimmons - 6/7/2011, 9:57 PM
They can't do that for the first movie. It's impossible. They'd at least have to have Karen, Matt, and Kingpin as pre-established characters for it to even make sense, meaning this is the sequel to the reboot story, not the actual reboot.
Ranger14 - 6/7/2011, 10:01 PM
I have to echo the sentiment that Born Again really isn't reboot material. Daredevil needs to be an established character prior to this storyline. it doesn't make sense as a first movie storyline.
Jer3miah - 6/7/2011, 10:04 PM
They shoulda just made Nolan write the script, lol. Daredevil, being a very ironic character(devil, catholic) has so much potential to be a dark, mysterious character form wraith like Batman is. This story they're approaching to adapt would really be able to show a lunatic-like side of a superhero, displaying his fall from sanity into the dark recesses of his own mind.

If they can make it a realistic mind-f*ck, it would have the potential to be better than Batman. And I agree about the no-leather part. They need to use a unique material, similar to how they invented the memory cloth-adapted material for Batman's cape. And to explain fash backs of his origins, or something. Or merge both story lines together. I could go on and on about how they could make this work easily.

Could be great... I love that story.

One encouraging thing is that this would be a hard one to mess up. I mean it's a fairly easy story to tell.

I guess we'll see what unfolds.
