Following yesterday's big reveal that he'll portray the villainous Malekith in Marvel's Thor: The Dark World, English Doctor Who actor Christopher Eccleston has briefly commented the anticipated project. Sharing with BANG Showbiz when he starts filming, and why he's a bit nervous, check out what he offers down below.

UPDATE: It seems the quote below was NOT from Eccleston, but rather Chris Hemsworth.

“'Thor 2'? Yeah I start shooting in August. I haven't seen a script yet which makes me nervous but yeah! Alan Taylor is directing who has done 'Game of Thrones' so it should be good.”

Casino Royale Danish actor Mads Mikkelsen was initially up for the role of Malekith The Accursed, but had to drop out considering Marvel was, “little too late.” Mads added that “Hannibal came in, and everything just came in the same period.” Anyhow, filming begins in London this month, as noted above. What do you think?

Exploring Thor's relationship with the Asgardian all-father Odin, as well earthbound companion Jane Foster, “Thor: The Dark World” follows the God of Thunder to The Nine Realms beyond Asgard and earth. And as his evil half-brother, Loki, returns for Asgardian justice, a new threat rises. Also rejoining Thor are his fellow Asgardians, Lady Sif, gatekeeper Heimdall and Warriors Three, as they encounter mythical Norse creatures among evildoers.

“Thor: The Dark World” stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Jaimie Alexander, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano, Stellan Skarsgard and Ray Stevenson. And Alan Taylor (“Game of Thrones”) takes over directorial duties from Kenneth Branagh, who helmed the first “Thor” film. With a screenplay by Robert Rodat,“Thor: The Dark World” is set for release on November 8, 2013.

Can't fricking wait to see Malekith, one of my favorites
IronLeprechaun - 8/2/2012, 1:12 PM
Yeah I agree... you haven't seen a script and start shooting in a month... yeah... no...
ksommer - 8/2/2012, 1:22 PM
I think that is how Marvel rolls though... Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr both have said they haven't seen scripts leading up to the filming of these movies.
DaenerysTargaryen - 8/2/2012, 1:29 PM
Dont be nervous...he'll be fine. He'll just be regenerated as David Tennant in the sequel so it all works out.
spidey1994 - 8/2/2012, 1:29 PM
Can't wait to see him in this!
TheTaskmaster - 8/2/2012, 1:32 PM
Just because he hasn't seen a script doesn't mean he hasn't started researching the character. Relax people he's a good actor.
Ha1frican - 8/2/2012, 1:34 PM
He agreed to the role without ever seeing the script....
nowtheresaBATman - 8/2/2012, 1:36 PM
Madds would have been better but Chris will be great. Good casting.
LMB10 - 8/2/2012, 1:36 PM
He'll have seen some stuff to audition. He's good actor, I'm looking forward to it.
Ha1frican - 8/2/2012, 1:38 PM
However some of you do have a point Marvel probably gavehim lot of research material because even if they kept the sript from him they always give at least the main actors reference comics
Spidex3000 - 8/2/2012, 1:39 PM
I wouldnt have wanted to see MM as Malekith though.
lvcl - 8/2/2012, 1:39 PM

inky - 8/2/2012, 1:40 PM

Greengo - 8/2/2012, 1:46 PM
That's the dude from dog soldiers
CaptainObvious - 8/2/2012, 1:47 PM
Don't most actors sign on for movies after they read the scripts?
marvel72 - 8/2/2012, 1:48 PM
thor the dark world is at the moment my most anticipated comic book movie of 2013.

if alan taylor can bring to the screen abit of what made game of thrones so amazing then we could be onto a winner.
95 - 8/2/2012, 1:50 PM
Great casting.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/2/2012, 1:51 PM
He just screams Malekith. Hope he gives us menacing performance.

Marvel better get Mads as Surtur for Thor 3. That would be epic.
ThunderGod - 8/2/2012, 1:53 PM
God, how many people wanna say they'd have preferred MM as malekith? Yeah, we get it. CE is a phenomenal actor, you didnt get MM, gutting for you, but build a bridge and get over it. How many people were un-easy about Chris Evans being Cap? Give the guy a chance instead of wishing for ice water in hell
Durf - 8/2/2012, 1:54 PM
sweet! Can't wait for this movie. Phase 2 is going to kick some ass!

@BW: lol
LMB10 - 8/2/2012, 1:55 PM
they probably just dont want another script leak, like with avengers
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/2/2012, 1:55 PM
I wonder who´s gonna play Algrim The Strong aka Kurse. They have Kurse in this right?
Anyway my suggestions are Mark Strong, Ralph Fiennes, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joseph Fiennes and Jude Law.
HelaGood - 8/2/2012, 1:59 PM
really quick photoshop of what he might look like...

DanteSparda - 8/2/2012, 2:01 PM
Now we only need a Surtur! Dave Grohl for Surtur!

ksommer - 8/2/2012, 2:01 PM
@BattlinMurdock You are right. I remember reading that.
sexfoodcomics - 8/2/2012, 2:01 PM
If you actually think these actors are "researching" these characters then you don't know much about Hollywood. First off , none of the actors , save for RDJ, see a full script befor ether are brought on. Marvel doesn't want any leaks what so ever. They get to see it a day probably before they actually shoot. The characters are described to them by the director and producers. They aren't actually going back and reading all these comic books before hand. They read it as they are shooting.
ralfinader - 8/2/2012, 2:02 PM
I hope they have a script at least! looking forward to 2013 already with four movies I have to see.
Conaan - 8/2/2012, 2:05 PM
This movie will be awesome!
OdinsBeard - 8/2/2012, 2:06 PM
this is going to rock..
PaulRom - 8/2/2012, 2:13 PM
He seems like a really good choice. Still wish Mikkelsen was doing it though.
karloshuddos - 8/2/2012, 2:17 PM
This will rocket him into hollywood. So far he's only a household name in the UK because of Dr Who.
AlexDeLarge87 - 8/2/2012, 2:19 PM
Greengo@ Sorry Eccleston wasnt in Dog Soldiers. That movie starred Kevin McKidd, Sean Pertwee and Liam Cunningham.
JordanKing - 8/2/2012, 2:21 PM
I'm not surprised Marvel are being tight with their scripts, especially with all that fiasco with SLJ and the Avengers script leak.
redsonjustin - 8/2/2012, 2:23 PM
This is cool.
MrCameron - 8/2/2012, 2:23 PM
@ DanteSparda

HELL YEAH DUDE!
Bodwulf - 8/2/2012, 2:23 PM
Oh how I am lovin' the Thor news! MM as Malekith will be on the radar just like Ed Norton as Hulk was till Ruffalo knocked it out the park. Hopefully this will be a repaeat. Mads is a little limited in his range.
TheAbomination - 8/2/2012, 2:24 PM
"Everything just came in the same period." That's what she said.

Anyway, i have no doubt that Eccleston will do an awesome job. Hurry up, November 2013!!
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 8/2/2012, 2:33 PM
This shaping up to be another amazing movie fro Marvel Studios. Can't wait. Let Phase Two commence!! :D

Stay EPIC, my friends!
gambgel - 8/2/2012, 2:34 PM
