Kicking promotional efforts into full gear for the anticipated blu-ray/DVD released for Marvel's The Avengers superhero spectacle, Marvel Studios president of production, Kevin Feige, has offered details via Moviehole. Vaguely expressing excitement that Joss Whedon is back on board to write and direct the sequel, Feige offers:

“You have to make sure that it doesn’t seem utterly ridiculous that a guy from outer space, a billionaire with a suit of armor and a guy who turns green when he gets upset could all fit into a movie together for people who have never read the books – and that’s where Joss Whedon came in. He was able to weave together their stories in a really great way.”

“Blu-rays are an incredibly important part of the movie process. We finished the big-screen release of The Avengers on the Tuesday and we started working on the Blu-ray on Wednesday. It was very immediate. There are a number of deleted scenes and a few storylines that fell by the wayside during the editing process for the big-screen release. However, we are very proud of these scenes and [“Marvel’s The Avengers” director] Joss Whedon is very proud of them, too. That’s why we’re excited that fans will be able to see them on Blu-ray”, he says, noting that we’ll see a “a few more scenes with the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill, played by Cobie Smulders” and “some slightly different versions of Maria Hill and Nick Fury’s interaction with the World Security Council, which are great to watch – but there are a number of other fun scenes, too.”

“Every movie we’ve made, in particular The Avengers, all started with a group of people – including executive producers Louis D’Esposito, Jeremy Latcham, Victoria Alonso and myself – saying, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could do this? And, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could do that?” We’d sit around and say, “Wouldn’t it be cool if we could do an Iron Man movie? Wouldn’t it be cool if we could make a Thor movie? Wouldn’t it be cool if we could make a Captain America movie? Wouldn’t it be cool if they all led towards The Avengers?” Every decision we make starts with a question, and talking about this collector’s set is something we’ve been talking about and planning for years – just like with the movie itself.

“We have had a lot of fun coming up with ideas for the collector’s set. We’ve been talking about things like, “Oh, we’ve got to create a Marvel Master Timeline that showcases all of the events in all of the movies for the collector’s edition.” Well, that’s definitely in there. Also, I always love collector’s sets that look like a cool prop from a movie, which is why we decided to make the collector’s edition look like the silver case from our movies. It’s the silver case that Nick Fury shows Dr. Selvig at the very end of the Thor movie, after the end credits. It’s the same silver case that Nick Fury puts the Tesseract inside; that Loki ends up stealing at the beginning of The Avengers. It’s going to be great! We’re really excited about the collector’s edition. In fact, we can’t wait for everybody to see it.”

Also, below you can find an Australian TV ad promoting the Blu-ray/DVD release, featuring clips in standard quality. In addition, there's unseen behind-the-scenes still photos.

@GreenHalJordan That's what I'd like to know. If there's going to be a director's cut or unrated version, then I'll wait for that one to be released on blu-ray.

WHY DOES BLU RAY GET ALL THE COOL SPECIAL FEATURES NOT EVERYBODY HAS A BLU RAY PLAYER!!! >:(
StarkAnthony - 8/13/2012, 8:59 PM
I'm wondering if this will include the scene between Cap and old Peggy. I kind of hope it doesn't, because I think a scene like that should be saved for Cap2.
DCMarvelFreshman - 8/13/2012, 8:59 PM
@thewonderer Only the US has the Sept. release date. It'll be available in other places this month. And the DVD/Blu-ray rips are usually online 1 or 2 weeks ahead. Which makes it likely that there will be rips this week or next.

@sKeemAn None currently available yet

themediator96: probably because Blu-ray discs hold more information than standard DVDs.

And does anyone else think "Moviehole" is perhaps...a poor choice for the name of a company? Good thing they don't think of themselves as "glorious."
thewonderer - 8/13/2012, 9:08 PM
@DCMarvelFreshman

Thanks, but you mind providing a link to where it tells the dates of when its releasing elsewhere?
BigeBigzWells - 8/13/2012, 9:22 PM
Why does the video say DVD and Blu-Ray August 29th? Did they change the date?
DCMarvelFreshman - 8/13/2012, 9:32 PM
@thewonderer @BigeBigzWells Hit this link and scroll down for all the release dates.
thewonderer - 8/13/2012, 9:40 PM
@DCMarvelFreshman

Thanks a lot, looks like August 29th is the earliest. You really think it'll leak before though?

@wonderer, yeah, usually the bluray and dvd copies are ripped at least the week before they are "released" lol. So next week most likely.
CoolantTech - 8/13/2012, 10:25 PM
Great News!!!

Maximus101 - 8/13/2012, 10:27 PM
I download movies everyday, I have had the avengers for months already lol not the best quality but no big deal cause I have already seen it.
breakUbatman - 8/13/2012, 10:52 PM
This Blu Ray better be quality like Iron Man, the rest of the Marvel ones have felt sparse.

@themediator96
Studios push Blu Ray because of the space then skimp on the Special Features. Iron Man dvd had as much stuff as the Blu-Ray because it was a double disc. Yet these days they'd rather include an extra digital copy with the Blu-Ray than the dvd. It's just money grabbing tactics to try and make Blu-Ray seem better than it is.
Phileo26 - 8/13/2012, 10:53 PM
So, can someone tell me if they r planning on having that 5min. short that is supposed to occur after the Avengers movie on the blu ray??? I would really like to know so i can c it. Thanx!!
IgnurRant - 8/13/2012, 10:58 PM
The only deleted scene we need is Loki smiling or winking before Thor takes him to Asgard. Signaling that Loki planned to get caught so he could go back to Asgard and still the infinity gauntlet.

I refuse to believe Whedon would make Loki an idiotic pawn with no sense of strategy or forethought. Loki is 7 moves ahead of all his opponents.

MarvelWeiner

Whedon is adept at writing and comicbook layouts.

His cinematography needs improvement. He should hire a proper cinematographer next film. Everything besides the 3rd act felt like a tv movie. His angle choices are weird (bad).
UrbanKnight - 8/13/2012, 11:10 PM
@CoolantTek Whats the name of that huge ass's owner?? lol
