THOR: THE DARK WORLD Filming Returns To London; Scene Details Reveal Midgard Action

After filming a “big battle sequence” in the Highlands of Iceland last week, Marvel’s Thor: The Dark World production crew have returned to the U.K. in London, now taking over the Old Naval College at Greenwich. And a filming notice was distributed a few weeks ago alerting locals that principal photography would take place on the campus, the Thames at high tide, camera boats, and aerial shots from a helicopter.

While it's well-known that Midgard (Earth) will be explored once again, the aforementioned filming notice had also revealed that “London will be showcased in a major way,” meaning that England's capital city will appear in the otherworldly sequel as itself, rather than doubling for another location. And now, new scene details have surfaced from today's shoot seemingly showcasing just how “major” the scenes involving London will be.

Spoiler Alert: although no stars were in sight, multiple extras from today’s shoot report that there were over 14 takes for a sequence that involved a bunch Londoners “running for their lives...from ‘invisible’ spaceships.” In addition, there was another filming unit for The Dark World spotted near Greenwich prepping a scene that involves a London Bus crashing into taxis. And it has been said that this very sequence will bring in explosions later this week.

This sequence seemingly ties into a past set report, which involved a POV shot filmed for Thor's mighty hammer, Mjolnir. And that it'll be seen flying pass Londoners and around big landmarks. Anyhow, what do think?

Marvel Studios’ “Thor: The Dark World” continues the big-screen adventures of Thor, the Mighty Avenger, as he battles to save Earth and all the Nine Realms from a shadowy enemy that predates the universe itself. In the aftermath of Marvel’s “Thor” and “Marvel’s The Avengers,” Thor fights to restore order across the cosmos…but an ancient race led by the vengeful Malekith returns to plunge the universe back into darkness. Faced with an enemy that even Odin and Asgard cannot withstand, Thor must embark on his most perilous and personal journey yet, one that will reunite him with Jane Foster and force him to sacrifice everything to save us all.

Starring Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Stellan Skarsgård, Idris Elba, Christopher Eccleston, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Kat Dennings, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Tadanobu Asano and Jaimie Alexander with Rene Russo & Anthony Hopkins as Odin, “Thor: The Dark World” is directed by Alan Taylor, produced by Kevin Feige, from a story by Don Payne (credit not final) and screenplay by Christopher Yost and Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely (credit not final) and is based on Marvel’s classic Super Hero Thor, who first appeared in the comic book “Journey into Mystery” #83 in August, 1962. “Thor: The Dark World” is presented by Marvel Studios. The executive producers are Louis D’Esposito, Alan Fine, Stan Lee, Victoria Alonso, Craig Kyle and Nigel Gostelow. The film releases November 8, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

In addition to “Thor: The Dark World”, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on more iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; “Marvel's The Avengers” sequel (title TBA) on May 1, 2015; and “Ant-Man” on November 6, 2015!

brazilianbatman@ sorry bro but the only movie that really reached its expectations is the avengers, i don't expect it to be nominated as best picture, or whatever. Nolan's a genius but the dark night rises didn't live up to his name, it was really a turn off. The best super heroe movies yet are avengers and heath's dark knight and that's it.
Alvahnomicron - 10/21/2012, 6:36 PM
I love 'Game of Thrones', and I'm excited to see THOR through Alan Taylor's eyes...
toco89 - 10/21/2012, 6:50 PM
@wolf89

It didn't meet YOUR expectations you mean. What Ledger did is something you can't plan for. Such a powerful and impactful performance is once in a lifetime.

ATrueHero1987 - 10/21/2012, 7:07 PM

Invisible Spaceships?

marvelstudios - 10/21/2012, 8:14 PM
OMG can't wait.
MrYurMomm - 10/21/2012, 8:15 PM
@ RamoneS

I think that too, while I was watching the Avengers again today, I noticed the speech from The Other to Loki resembles a piece of the plot synopsis for Thor: TDW,

And also I noticed they've already started with the idea of LMD's, Tony mentioned it to Coulson when they are first introduced in the Stark Tower, and then I also noticed that when Cap and Cousin get off the Quinjet, Natasha says, "They need you on the bridge, they're starting the face trace." *Exit Cousin*

Why do I mention this? Because i kept in mind the rumors of Coulson coming back somehow, and these little things caught my attention. Has anyone else noticed this?
MrYurMomm - 10/21/2012, 8:42 PM
While I wouldn't mind Coulson coming back, I agree, no Vision
mgeoff88 - 10/21/2012, 9:51 PM
Hell Yeah! There always has to be action on Earth.
