BlackFilm is the latest to catch up with two-time Oscar-nominated actor Jamie Foxx, amid hype for Quentin Tarantino's Django Unchained, to discuss his supervillain role in Marc Webb's follow-up to The Amazing Spider-Man. Now dishing on Electro's costume in the 2014 sequel, Foxx said:

“It won’t be green and yellow. It will be a different color. They (the producers) want something for the future. They want to have it more grounded and not as comic bookie, so it won’t be green and yellow. They want to try new things, like a liquid rubber and things like that, and there are all these bolts and stuff in my arms when they are hanging me upside down and trying to figure out what happen. How did he become this way? So, it will be some new stuff.”

“In the script, this villain is the first time it’s be written well. Andrew Garfield and Marc Webb both commented on how great the script is, so it should be an exciting time.”

The next installment of The Amazing Spider-Man stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Sally Field, Dane DeHaan, Jamie Foxx and Shailene Woodley. The screenplay is by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner based on a previous draft by James Vanderbilt. The film will be directed by Marc Webb and produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The untitled new film in the Spider-Man saga is set for release in 3D on May 2, 2014. Production will begin in early 2013 in New York.

well, we didn't get the green and yellow with hydra in cap 1. maybe only kick-ass can pull it off :)
NerdyGeek - 12/17/2012, 8:03 AM
I hope the costume is dark and made of grit.
blvdnoise - 12/17/2012, 8:06 AM
Ok, folks. That'd be your que to start the bashing..
Spideyguy94 - 12/17/2012, 8:08 AM
Was expecting it to be honest. While costumes can be done on screen and work, there are still ones that cannot be pulled off in live action, electro's is one of them.
Spideyguy94 - 12/17/2012, 8:10 AM
@theyoungman I'm sorry have you seen the movie? Because last time I checked the movie hasn't even started shooting yet.
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/17/2012, 8:10 AM
Wait wait wait... Jamie Foxx is confirmed to play Electro?... Great. :/
Jollem - 12/17/2012, 8:11 AM
maybe they're gonna do like the movie version of hydra and go with a black theme
AlexDeLarge87 - 12/17/2012, 8:17 AM
Not the choice i would have go with but i accept.
dezdigi - 12/17/2012, 8:18 AM
It'll be a black leather jacket. :)
Electo's costume would be hard to pull off and take seriously.
Darkknightman - 12/17/2012, 8:21 AM
Desdigi, you just stole my thunder. It will probably be a black leather jacket with some type of electricity sign somewhere on it. Sigh. If your embarrassed of the material, then don't do it.
NightWingNut - 12/17/2012, 8:23 AM
YES!!! I've been waiting for a Static Shock movie for soooo long!!!...oh wait...
ATrueHero1987 - 12/17/2012, 8:24 AM
Yea, Electro is one of those characters that no matter how they look, he still ends up looking goofy.

Maybe it will be something like this:
or even something like this:

Of course, instead of yellow blots, it'll be blue.
Jollem - 12/17/2012, 8:24 AM
sometimes it might not be best to go with the outfits from the comics

Funsize - 12/17/2012, 8:26 AM
I thought Green Goblin was supposed to be the villain.
TheAbomination - 12/17/2012, 8:29 AM
I'm still kind of shocked that he got this role. Also, I'm getting kind of tired of this whole "grounded" thing that most CBMs (and blockbusters in general) are doing now-a-days. Not everyone can be Nolan and emulate the Dark Knight's success. Just do what works for your movie.
KaneVonDoom - 12/17/2012, 8:29 AM
Hopefully they still take a lot of cues from the comic version because they could really pull it off and have the iconic look.I'm fine with changes or updates but kinda tired of having such iconic characters on screen that look nothing like their inspiration.

Oh well... guess we'll see.
nonserviam03 - 12/17/2012, 8:30 AM
I always thought Electro's costume was terrible. Glad they're changing it.
ATrueHero1987 - 12/17/2012, 8:31 AM
Are we surprised that they don't want to use the comic book costume? These are the same producers that wanted to "ground" the look of The Lizard. Yes he had his lab coat but it didn't stay on long.lol(IDK care what anyone one says. The Lizard, like The Shocker, costume in the books made sense). Again, they could go with the look of Ultimate Electro or Spectacular Spider-Man Electro.
SecretApprentice71 - 12/17/2012, 8:32 AM
I still can't see it. It just seems like Foxx would take the role very seriously, no matter what costume they put him in.
thalidomide - 12/17/2012, 8:34 AM
Maybe it will look something like this.

:p
Drewbee87 - 12/17/2012, 8:38 AM
Thank GOD!
ElApe - 12/17/2012, 8:40 AM
I can't believe they're changing his costume! That bright yellow headgear is amazing, I want electro to have the yellow bolts sticking out. It's a travesty that they are messing about with his iconic look....blah, blah, whine, blah, etc.

Electro looks like a tool, if they don't change the suit they'd have to be braindead.
Ha1frican - 12/17/2012, 8:41 AM
My excitement for this was completely killed with him being confirmed. Might not even see it tbh
RonSwanson - 12/17/2012, 8:44 AM
I'll reserve my judgement until I see the actual costume. I'm not at all surprised they didn't go with the green/yellow version. Like someone said, some costumes are just too campy looking to adapt on screen. Even the most iconic of characters are tough to adapt to live action if the movie is to exist in some sort of "grounded" universe. I'm really interested in seeing how the adapt the Falcon in CA:TWS
birdfists - 12/17/2012, 8:47 AM
I don't undertand why people are freaking out over the costume change.. it would look retarded in a serious live action adaptation.

@TheAbomination Are you saying that by making the costumes down to earth and realistic they're ripping off the Dark Knight? Are you implying that Christopher Nolan had that idea? Because I recall X-Men having black leather suits in like, 2001.
kevberg - 12/17/2012, 8:48 AM
Thats why they fail. LACK OF VISION.

"Oh you can't do that costume it looks goofy" Really? How in the world did Sam Raimi do the first two movies costumes then?

How about a Dark green suit that has has electricity bouncing off it? It doesn't have to a an exact translation but hearing crap like this sounds like the reason for the radical changes to the X-mens outfits.

and Jaime Foxx is sh@t
JMESS - 12/17/2012, 8:48 AM
why do producers say "omg i love this character so much I want to use him in my movie!!!!.... but Im just going to change every single thing about him"

I dont get it...
continuezero - 12/17/2012, 8:56 AM
Right, cuz a dude in a red suit and luchadore mask isn't comic bookie...
Mucklefluga - 12/17/2012, 8:59 AM
aaaaaaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwww mmmaaaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnnnn
Jollem - 12/17/2012, 9:04 AM
electro unchained :)
CptCrunchy - 12/17/2012, 9:04 AM
Why wouldn't Webb and Garfield say the script is good?
TheAmazingSpiderMan47 - 12/17/2012, 9:06 AM
lol... grounded
UR ELECTRICITY MOTHA [frick]A
raspedoits - 12/17/2012, 9:11 AM
I knew from the get go that they weren't gonna use that God awful comic book costume! Although, I would very much embrace the Ultimate version, bald head & all ! In some comic versions, they don't even show much of his costume. He is represented as a supercharged man of pure white light, completely covered with electric energy ready to do so some serious damage. Who needs costume, when you can have something like that!? But I most def love the Ultimate version!
aztecRaingod - 12/17/2012, 9:13 AM
Kind of an odd selection as the second movies main villain, but I guess they wanted to do it different than the first three (and you know, do THEIR OWN THING)

All these people bitching complaining and whining that its such a radical departure from the comic and first series. GO BACK AND WATCH RAIMIS FILMS IF THATS WHAT YOU CRAVE SO BADLY.

IM OUT.
raspedoits - 12/17/2012, 9:18 AM
I predict that the Green Goblin (or at least Norman's transformation) will appear somewhere in the film, perhaps at the end? After all, MJ is said to appear very briefly in the sequel. We may or may not see Gwen's famous death in this movie, but I'm very stoked to finally see Electro on the big screen !!!
fr0zt - 12/17/2012, 9:21 AM
The original Electro costume is entirely too campy anyway. Not bad news IMO
raspedoits - 12/17/2012, 9:41 AM
I pray to God that they NEVER have Vulture on the big screen!! With his silly look & origin, I don't think they can ever give him justice on the big screen regardless of how much they "ground him in reality" !!
ToTheManInTheColdSweat - 12/17/2012, 9:42 AM
Wow, SpongeGeekNerdgasmPants & Batz just blew my [frick]ing mind ;)
IIIAdamantiumIII - 12/17/2012, 9:50 AM
.... ugh this is like day one spidey school stuff guys...
HeadPool420 - 12/17/2012, 9:59 AM
It's funny when an actor tries to get a role in a CBM then when they get it they proudly brag that its not like the comic book version.
