Michael Rosenbaum Also Testing For ‘Star-Lord’ Role In GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY

The latest actor revealed to be in contention for the lead role, Peter Quill AKA Star-Lord, in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is Michael Rosenbaum, according to the Smallville Lex Luther actor himself.

Following reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt joined the ever-growing shortlist of actors who are circling the lead role in Marvel's forthcoming space epic Guardians of the Galaxy, it seems someone else recently tested for Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord also. Smallville's Michael Rosenbaum took to Twitter, including director James Gunn's handle, to announce that he, too, is in the mix.

Like Joseph Gordon-Levitt per The Dark Knight Rises, Michael Rosenbaum is best known for portraying a DC character: Lex Luther on The CW's Smallville TV series. And the 40-year-old actor previously worked with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn on his PG Porn short film series. A mystery actor was mentioned last month, when Zachery Levi and Jim Sturgess became alleged front-runners, who was said to be tested for Star-Lord after the Holidays. And now that the New Year has arrived, Rosenbaum is likely who those reports were referring to. What do you think?

Marvel Studios presents “Guardians of the Galaxy”—the big cinematic event exploring an interstellar super hero team-up, featuring Marvel characters Star-Lord, Drax the Destroyer, Gamora, Groot and Rocket Raccoon. While story details are under wraps, the film is rumored to lead with a U.S. pilot who ends up in space in the middle of a universal conflict and goes on the run with futuristic ex-cons who have something everyone wants.

Directed by James Gunn from a screenplay by James Gunn, “Guardians of the Galaxy” is based on the Marvel comic book series “Guardians of the Galaxy,” first published in 1969 and revived in 2008. While a director and ensemble cast have yet to be announced, “Guardians of the Galaxy” will assemble on August 1, 2014. Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures will distribute the film. In addition to “Guardians of the Galaxy”, Marvel Studios will release a slate of films based on other iconic Marvel characters including “Iron Man 3” on May 3, 2013; “Thor: The Dark World ” on November 8, 2013; “Captain America: The Winter Soldier” on April 4, 2014; and the currently-untitled sequel to “Marvel's The Avengers,” the third highest grossing film of all time, on May 1, 2015.

DaenerysTargaryen - 1/2/2013, 6:11 PM
Dammit Lex! He obviously using this as a way to team up with Thanos to destroy both the MCU and DC universe. You can't trust Lex. ;)
BrotherStarkofMABMindz - 1/2/2013, 6:17 PM
Gamora=Olivia Wilde

Drax The Destroyer=Vin Diesel

Rocket Raccoon=Michael Rooker

Groot=Dee Bradley Baker

Adam Warlock=Garret Hedlund

This Is getting really interesting. Rosenbaum's lex was easily the best thing about smallville, even when he was given the most dull scripts he always turned in a top notch performance.
SageMode - 1/2/2013, 6:24 PM
This would be an awesome casting for Starlord. Better than Sturgess and JGL, IMO.
Supes17 - 1/2/2013, 6:39 PM
The guy's talented. One of the few actors that kept me interested in the show to an extent.
LEEE777 - 1/2/2013, 6:42 PM
I dunno, an all unknown cast would be better!

But ofc Michael is a good actor and one of the best things from SMALLVILLE...when he left in season 7, the show went to sh1T :P

Cool @ FRESH gr8 find!
Supes17 - 1/2/2013, 6:47 PM
Lol what he said^
ATrueHero1987 - 1/2/2013, 6:50 PM
Hmmm interesting choice.

I want to know more about Star-Lord and the other Guardians, so I guess I will subscribe to GOTG and at the same time, catch up on the previous stories of GOTG that came out around 2008 along with the Annihilation series.
Shamo - 1/2/2013, 6:55 PM
no. Joel Edgerton or JGL.
JDUKE25 - 1/2/2013, 7:01 PM
Love Rosey
DioFoRio - 1/2/2013, 7:02 PM
rosenbaum is sortta an "unknown"
Nivekian - 1/2/2013, 7:03 PM
Yes, I thought he had potential star power if put on the right project! I have to admit, for something I've seen referred to as C-list Marvel property, this is getting a lot of interest.
maxxgone - 1/2/2013, 7:06 PM
F.U.C.K. Y.E.S. holy crap this is an inspired idea. i would love to see this guy branch out past his great work on smallville. @Marvel - make this happen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am not familiar with the character in Guardians or Guardians for that matter so he would be ok as he is a very good actor but for some reason whenever I see him in anything these days he will always be Lex Luthor from Smallville...

JDUKE25 - 1/2/2013, 7:21 PM
@Sage I would agree with that
FightAs0ne - 1/2/2013, 7:22 PM
I like it. Make it so Marvel.
Luigi - 1/2/2013, 7:23 PM
Everybody is up for Star-Lord. I have to agree with grif, except I think Star Lord should where is mask for ALL of the movie. He just looks like Steve Rogers in space other wise. Plus I never liked Rosenbaum. Dunno why, he's been in some good stuff,
mk - 1/2/2013, 7:31 PM
Good actor but too old
TheAbomination - 1/2/2013, 7:32 PM
Who ISN'T auditioning for Star-Lord? I feel like all these actors think that GotG will become the next big MCU franchise akin to the Iron Man movies. And, hopefully, it will.
zachman2013 - 1/2/2013, 7:34 PM
Why didnt anyone think of this? brilliant.
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 1/2/2013, 7:35 PM
Warlock has NOT been announced for the movie. Right now he is as likely to appear as Vance Astro (who I HOPE appears).

And no i don't hate Warlock...he's my favorite of the modern team and no Vance isn't my favorite guardians...that would go to Starhawk by a long shot
darkjoker1 - 1/2/2013, 7:36 PM
Awesome he has that witty sarcasm that makes him stand out and he was funny in lolipop chainsaw and brecking in :D
OriginalGuardiansPlease - 1/2/2013, 7:37 PM
They need a younger guy playing Star-Lord...as much as I like mer Rosenbaum I would prefer if they went with Lewit.

Have Rosebaum appear in a cameo role as Vance Astrovik and i'd be happy
Superman8 - 1/2/2013, 7:42 PM
It's really a goddamn shame they wont use him in the Man of Steel series.

I absolutely loved his Lex and stopped watching Smallville until the finale season once he left.

He is Lex Luthor.
DrRockso - 1/2/2013, 7:51 PM
Hell [frick]ing YESSS!!!
OptimusPrimeTime - 1/2/2013, 7:55 PM
@@ sagemode

I'm good with that. Excellent excellent choice for Groot and Drax!

Jamie bell for RR would be cool, too! That guys voice, accent and speaking inflection would fit the character well.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 1/2/2013, 7:59 PM
I couldn't get past Smallville Season 3 because it was so "Dawson's Creek" but what I saw of him was terrific, and PG Porn was great. What I mostly know of him is his voice as Flash. Good choice, but pick someone already and move on to Groot, Raccoon, Gamora and Drax already!
novaprime - 1/2/2013, 8:23 PM
im a fan of the COMICS I READ ANNIHIALTION LIKE 7 TIMES AND GUARDIAN OF THE GALAXY!!! I DO NOT BELIVE HES GOOD FOR THE ROLE, JOEL EDGERTON, OR JOSH HARTNET, WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO THE LIKES OF A SAM WORTHINGTON, MABY EVEN ERIC BANA!!
l0rdleg0las - 1/2/2013, 8:25 PM
This would be great casting. I was liking Chuck/Fandral for the part but I thib Rosenbaum would kill it in this part.
novaprime - 1/2/2013, 8:26 PM
Garret Hedlund or Ryan Gosling for Nova! and Alexander Sarsgard for adam warlock, vin diesel for DRAX, JASON STATHAM FOR ROCKETT RACOON!!!
Jolt17 - 1/2/2013, 8:26 PM
Interesting. Well, he's a Smallville actor, but bringing him to a CBM is fair enough, I guess! And yes, I'm still rooting for Lee Pace, Jim Sturgess, or a complete unknown - works like charm for CBM's - in the role, but he could be very interesting.
IamMrE - 1/2/2013, 8:29 PM
I don't mind this idea. I just hope this movie is good, and not a sorry excuse to add more movies to the Marvel Studios Universe.
DrDoom - 1/2/2013, 8:42 PM
Looks like everyone wants to be Star-Lord nowadays.
JordanKing - 1/2/2013, 8:43 PM
I just can't picture the guy as Star Lord..
CharlesLord - 1/2/2013, 9:01 PM
See they had my curiosity, but now they have my attention
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/2/2013, 9:03 PM
Yeah. I can see the dude as Star Lord. A great actor, and he knows portray that smart-@$$ personality well, and he has the looks for the role.

Although I was hoping for Chris Pine as Star Lord. The man is another well-know, respected actor that can bring a great performance as Star Lord. So I'm all for Pine (although the man probably has his plate full with Star Trek). So if they decide to go with Rosenbaum, then I'm okay with that. :)
TheAmazingSpidey63 - 1/2/2013, 9:06 PM
But hey, let's get some Draxx, Gamora, Groot, RR, and a possible Nova casting new, huh? They need some media love, as well. I mean, I'm glad to see casting news for Star Lord, but let's not forget the rest of the GotG family.
