THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON Confirms South Africa Filming But Not In Cape Town

It was initially reported that Marvel and writer-director Joss Whedon had scouted Cape town, but now a local film commission announces The Avengers sequel will shoot in another South African city!

An earlier press release from Marvel Studios suggested that principal photography on The Avengers: Age of Ultron wouldn't start until March, but now it seems that start-date was for its production in the United Kingdom. Following several indications of shooting taking place in South Africa, it's now been confirmed that the Joss Whedon-directed Marvel sequel will be filmed in and around parts of Johannesburg, Gauteng for two weeks, starting later this month. “We’re thrilled that Marvel Studios is bringing a major motion picture project to Johannesburg, and we’re committed to showing them the very best our region has to offer,” said the CEO of Gauteng Film Commission. The city's Mayor also commented: “We are excited to host Marvel; strengthens Johannesburg’s position as a worldwide film production centre with first class facilities and production support. It also has a very positive impact for the region and is a great opportunity for the city to be showcased to a worldwide audience.” The report further reveals that the scenes filmed in South Africa will not involve any of the principal cast members, however, they will be “action photography sequences.” Anyhow, there's still no word on whether the country is doubling for another location, or the fictional African nation of Wakanda, but The Avengers: Age of Ultron is also scheduled to film in several parts of Italy, South Korea, and England this spring. What do you think?

The Avengers: Age of Ultron stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Cobie Smulders, Jeremy Renner, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Elizabeth Olsen, with Samuel L. Jackson and James Spader. The anticipated film is set to release on May 1, 2015.

Cool
I wonder who else the the Avengers will have to fight?
UltimateWarrior - 2/1/2014, 2:06 PM
Benedict Cumberbatch for T'Challa!

@OldGreg

LOL WAT!??
TheBaroness89 - 2/1/2014, 2:08 PM
The Avengers go up against Hydra and Aim before Ultron so we are left with a location for Hydra or Wakanda who are in possession of the only vibranium on earth and one of the Infinity gems.
AstonishingArachnid - 2/1/2014, 2:08 PM
It says that the scenes in South Africa will not contain any of the primary across. Does this mean that it will be a quick shot of T'chaka/T'chala and the wakandans fighting off Ultrons forces?
JordanKing - 2/1/2014, 2:09 PM
Jesse Eisenberg for T'Challa!
COREYxYEROC - 2/1/2014, 2:10 PM
vibranium will be in the movie. ultron will most likely be made out of it. i think there will be lots of ultron all over the world but the main/first one will probably be in africa made of vibranium. i can see the final battle taking place there.

Black Panther will not be in the movie. the character is too big not to be officially revealed with an actor. unless its an end credit sccene but its a pretty safe bet that it will be about thanos so it wont be black panther. unless the battle destroyed wakanda and BP wants some sort of revenge

You tend to hear about second unit stuff starting early all the time.

"Action photography sequences" sounds like this would mostly be stuff like explosions, destruction, vehicular stunts, or panicked crowds.

They'll probably start filming with the main cast next month, and that will technically be considered the "start of principal photography."
Nerfherder1 - 2/1/2014, 2:11 PM
Wayne Brady for Black Panther or GTFO
TheBlackNerd - 2/1/2014, 2:13 PM
Bring on Black Panther in phase 3! Screw all that "team up movie with cap" nonsense. However I have a slight feeling the Inhumans will take BP's spot...smh
Nerfherder1 - 2/1/2014, 2:13 PM
He make blank panther look like Bryant Gumbal
Kurne - 2/1/2014, 2:13 PM
If T'Challa isn't in Age of Ultron, there's no doubt that he's in Phase Three. Even if he doesn't have his own movie he'll likely show up in Avengers 3. There's no way Marvel would keep us waiting until 2020.
TheBlackNerd - 2/1/2014, 2:14 PM
Cumberpatch would've made a great Loki.
marvel72 - 2/1/2014, 2:14 PM
@ MexicanSuperman

when i thought about the villains i would like to see in the avengers trilogy these came to mind.

the avengers loki (got that)
the avengers 2 ultron & kang (got half of that at least)
the avengers 3 the masters of evil

thanos needs to be an epic trilogy like lord of the rings with all the heroes & maybe some of the villains that have been introduced over phase 1-3 taking on thanos with the infinity gauntlet.
UltimateWarrior - 2/1/2014, 2:14 PM
Sid: That's what I'm saying. Have him be adopted like in Prince of Persia.
Kurne - 2/1/2014, 2:17 PM
I have a feeling that Quicksilver's costume will look something like this:

TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:17 PM
Black Panther!!!
Praetorian - 2/1/2014, 2:17 PM
Chiwotel something or other would be a good Black Panther, but it'd be stupid to throw a black panther in there when they still have a black widow.
NoPhucksGiven - 2/1/2014, 2:17 PM
Hope they do a black panther movie soon and finally let a black lead hero have his time to shine in the mcu. im kind over just the black sidekick title.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:18 PM
@kurne I hope so ;)
UltimateWarrior - 2/1/2014, 2:19 PM
Nope, I got it now....Morgan Freeman for T'Challa. Have him be 75, and a young female as his protege
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:20 PM
Why isn't there an article on the new avengers 2 rumored casting.

The rumored addition to the The Avengers: Age of Ultron cast is Korean actress Kim Soo-Hyun. I seen this rumor days ago. Some are saying she was casted as Tony Stark's assistant/help or a villain. Speculations were Moondragon!!
Kurne - 2/1/2014, 2:20 PM
@Remy

If not then they'll of course, as is the case with pretty much every other MCU character, give him his Ultimates look...
Kurne - 2/1/2014, 2:21 PM
@Remy

Yeah I already posted that a few days ago.
ezio619 - 2/1/2014, 2:22 PM
so lets see what we know so far about thisfilm-

-We know Baron Von Strucker is in the movie played by Thomas Kretschmann, he will be a minor villain, maybe in the opening sequence of the film and could be the lead in for quicksilver and scarlet witch in the film

-Hawkeye will have a much bigger role in the film

-there are at least 15 moments in the film that will make fanboys go wild!!

-The Movie will be a little darker and will have more of a science fiction element in it due to the presence of Ultron

-Ultron will have many forms throughout the film, we will see him evolve

-The movie is going to be alot about the avengers pace not only in America, but in the World

interesting tidbits
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:22 PM
Jesse Eisenberg for Red skull LOL!!!
@marvel72, kang would great. I think Avengers 3 will have Thanos as the main villain. I would Masters of Evil to be in Avengers 2, with Ultron being their leader.
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:25 PM
@kurne that is the best conventional look for Quicksilver but instead of black I would go for a midnight navy blue.
Kurne - 2/1/2014, 2:26 PM
@Sid

I hope so too...

6of13 - 2/1/2014, 2:26 PM
I live in Johannesburg. City of Gold.

So excited about this news. :D
Omarvls - 2/1/2014, 2:28 PM
@OldGreg

What about Jesse Eisenberg for Baron Zemo? Wait I got it
What about Jesse Eisenberg for Modok?
Dandy - 2/1/2014, 2:29 PM
Meanwhile, in the film that did properly cast it's lead villain....
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:29 PM
@kurne do you know what comic that image of quicksilver is from?
TheRealRemyLebeau - 2/1/2014, 2:31 PM
Jesse Eisenberg should be Thanos!! I'm dead serious!!

;)
@Kurne, I think Quicksilver's suit will look mostly look like his ultimate version, like Hawkeye. I remember Joss Wedon said the Scarlet Witch will not look like her 616 version at all.
MarkV - 2/1/2014, 2:32 PM
Some people have speculated on a time travel element based on the various characters involved...
DrunkenPirateNukem - 2/1/2014, 2:33 PM
Black Panther!!
