Marvel Not Fazed by BATMAN/SUPERMAN Release Date; 'We're Not Moving,' Says Kevin Feige

As Captain America 3 appears to be their currently-untitled film slated for summer 2016, Marvel Studios' president says the date will remain despite it being the very day Batman Vs. Superman opens!

Many were surprised when Warner Brothers delayed the still-untitled Batman Vs. Superman movie by 10 months, pushing the Zack Snyder-directed Man of Steel follow-up into 2016 and on the same day that Disney/Marvel has an untitled production slated. Talking with Slash Film among others during the Captain America: The Winter Soldier press junket today, Marvel Studios president of production Kevin Feige assured that the company has no plans to abandon the May 6, 2016 date.

“We’re certainly keeping the date there and we’ll announce what that movie is, I assume, in the next few months,” declared Kevin Feige. Asked if San Diego Comic-Con is where and when the magic will happen and we learn titles of the remaining Phase Three movies, the producer said: “That would be great, I’d love nothing more than to be able to announce them all there. But if it’s ready beforehand, we’ll probably do it beforehand. If it’s not ready then, we’ll do it after.”

UPDATE: In a separate interview with IGN, Feige reiterated what he stated above: “We're still on that date and we're going to be announcing soon what the movie will be on that date. That's what we're sort of actively working on as we get ready to firm up and get into pre-production what will be the two films for '16 and the two films for '17.” Though it's no huge surprise, it's interesting that Feige mentioned a second 2017 film considering there's only one--on May 5, 2017--that Disney/Marvel have dated that year. Anyhow, the producer also reiterated that we could get announcements before Comic-Con. “It's not about the best time to make an announcement for us,” he said. “It's about when the team coalesces and when we find a group of collaborators that we want to spend the next two or three years with to bring one of the movies to life.”

From Doctor Strange to Guardians of the Galaxy 2, there have been a handful of Marvel Studios properties rumored to nab the May 6, 2016 date and follow Ant-Man on the Phase Three slate. However, it seems the recently much-talked about Captain America 3 could be going up against Batman and Superman. According to New York Post writer Reed Tucker, Winter Soldier directors Anthony & Joe Russo suggested today that the third installment is “slated to begin shooting in 2015” and it would “pick up where story left off in Captain America 2.” What do you think?

Damn! Marvel has balls of steel!
Transforminator - 3/12/2014, 7:15 PM
Not to undermine the profound success of the Marvel movies, but there is no movie that Marvel could possibly release which would be able to handle Batman-Superman. It may be a good movie in terms of credibility but not the right business move.

@Transforminator

Iron Man 4 can do it.
MrCBM56 - 3/12/2014, 7:17 PM
I hope Cap 3 and Thor 3 are the only returning Avengers getting sequels. I want some more fresh faces.
marvel72 - 3/12/2014, 7:18 PM
just imagine if marvel were secretly filming avengers age of ultron & avengers 3 back to back, then boom avengers 3 takes on batman vs superman.
Pheezmatic - 3/12/2014, 7:19 PM
What if they surprise us with BLACK PANTHER on that date??

How torn will us the fan base be then?
Batman52 - 3/12/2014, 7:19 PM
@MrCBM56 you've got to admit it's fun seeing people argue on which movie will do better in the box office and word of mouth.
DraculaX - 3/12/2014, 7:20 PM
Well Marvel better bring out the big guns,TANKS, MISSILES, A NUCLEAR WARHEAD otherwise they are gonna get massacred.
Pheezmatic - 3/12/2014, 7:20 PM
or PLANET HULK?....
Poolio - 3/12/2014, 7:21 PM
Good news for me, get to see two awesome movies in one weekend.
Marvel1997 - 3/12/2014, 7:21 PM
@MrCBM- where is the ""pitty"" competition being made? If Marvel had that spot first so people are glad that they didn't move. Out of all dates WB had to Stamp their film on the same date that Marvel already had? Why? There was speculation that One company (most Likley Marvel) would end up moving, and not wanting to go up against something as big as Bat/superman,but they stayed. Just shows confidence
marvel72 - 3/12/2014, 7:21 PM
@ MrCBM56

i would like to see the hulk get another movie & depending on the success of guardians of the galaxy maybe a sequel to that.
ezio619 - 3/12/2014, 7:22 PM
mrcbm-i think that will be the case, feige said he would like to have a two film formula in which they have an existing property and a new property every year such as cap and guardians this year, avengers 2 and ant man next year etc.
Pheezmatic - 3/12/2014, 7:23 PM
I don't think whatever Marvel unleashes will make as much money as BvsS but i think it will cut into WB's money for that movie. While so many people are going to want to see bats and supes, Marvel will by then be the more proven commodity.
DraculaX - 3/12/2014, 7:24 PM
May 6 is the day WWIII starts....That is if the situation with Ukraine and Russia doesn't beat us to it first.
marvel72 - 3/12/2014, 7:24 PM
why will people have to pick one over the other? if i want to see two movies,i'll either see both the same day or one the following week.
MrCBM56 - 3/12/2014, 7:25 PM
At the end of the day though, quality>quantity. I don't care which one makes more money, I'm looking for the better movie.
McNyagano - 3/12/2014, 7:25 PM
@MrCBM56

The last IM film is the 5th grossing film of all time with the 2nd highest opening week-end of all time. He will certainly give MOS2 a run for it's money. The fact that it outgrossed TDK and TDKR respectively says a lot. He's a very popular character right now but IM4 aint happening any time soon, I was just responding to that guy that is all.

MrCBM56 - 3/12/2014, 7:27 PM
"Let me get a 3'o clock ticket for Batman vs Superman"
"Would that be all, sir?"
"No. Can I also get a ticket for the 4:45 showing of Captain america 3"
MCUfan1 - 3/12/2014, 7:28 PM
Hulk needs to fight The Leader in Phase 3. He's the only one who didn't get a sequel.
Poolio - 3/12/2014, 7:28 PM
BOLD....foolish but Bold
npamusic - 3/12/2014, 7:33 PM
I'm confused... Is this not finished? Where is the quote from marvel saying they aren't "fazed".
MrNiklander - 3/12/2014, 7:34 PM
Why they should be afraid of anything?! Whatever Marvel throws will make money.
Dinotron - 3/12/2014, 7:34 PM
We get to see Cap on the big screen for three years in a row o_O

Oh man bring it!!!
Marvel1997 - 3/12/2014, 7:35 PM
@Omega- Watch out... Apparently you're trying to make competition -__-
npamusic - 3/12/2014, 7:35 PM
You forgot to mention the NOVA movie..

;)
batman1216 - 3/12/2014, 7:36 PM
Don't get too excited Marvel fanatics, they will move. I guarantee you they will move. There is nothing Marvel can release that people, especially the general public, will see over a Batman/Superman movie other than possibly Avengers 3 and truthfully I doubt even that. Kevin Feige is talking big 2 and a half years away from the release date. Let's see what happens when things get a little closer.
DraculaX - 3/12/2014, 7:38 PM
If Captain America 2 does well in April, then Marvel will might consider moving whatever comes out in May to April. That way we can still see the movie earlier and still see Batman vs. Superman in May.
JoJo1982 - 3/12/2014, 7:39 PM
That's fighting words lmao
ManCalledSting - 3/12/2014, 7:41 PM
Okay, and?
genesis609 - 3/12/2014, 7:42 PM
