“He’s very much a kid at heart,” said Chris Pratt of his role as Peter Quill, aka Star-Lord, in early Guardians of the Galaxy press notes. “He’s never known his father, he’s sucked away into space just as his mother dies and is raised by a blue-skinned humanoid. He has spent all his life being told to toughen up and has a false sense of bravado as a result. But deep down he is lonely, and while he’s a guy traveling in space getting to do whatever he wants, he misses his family, his community, and through the course of the story he learns to care again and that there’s more to life than just taking and doing exactly what you want.” About that blue-skinned surrogate father of Peter Quill which Pratt referred to, it's of course Yondu, a Ravenger played by Michael Rooker in Guardians of the Galaxy. “It’s a beautiful story, a great uplifting story and I found the relationship between Quill and Yondu intriguing,” said The Walking Dead actor. “He went to pick him up from Earth and for some reason he decided not to take him where he was meant to go and raised him himself. He made a connection with him, and Yondu now enjoys the fact that Quill has the courage to do his own thing.” Anyhow, yesterday's ABC special Marvel Studios: Assembling a Universe also featured a behind-the-scenes look at Guardians. Now thanks to Guard the Galaxy, check out some decent screencaps below and look out for more info.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits–Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Peter discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand - with the galaxy’s fate in the balance. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is presented by Marvel Studios and stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper as the voice of Rocket, Vin Diesel as the voice of Groot, Lee Pace, Michael Rooker, Karen Gilian, Djimon Hounsou with John C. Reilly, Glenn Close as Commander Rael and Benicio del Toro as The Collector. Distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the film opens August 1, 2014.

Oh man, this all sounds so amazing. The character's backstories, relationships, and personalities are really what's going to make this movie
MrMartinMarvel - 3/19/2014, 4:39 PM

Nice, this movie is gonna be the shit. I don't care about the mohawk fin being shorter but I do want Yondu to use a bow at least.

MrCBM56 - 3/19/2014, 4:52 PM
Gamora looks alright. Makeup looks lazy. Like she was just painted green.
MrNiklander - 3/19/2014, 4:52 PM
So it seems that Yondu might be working for Star Lord's father wasn't his father an alien prince or something!?
MrCBM56 - 3/19/2014, 4:54 PM
I bet Yondu was going to take him to his father.
Enphlieuwince - 3/19/2014, 4:54 PM
SMH. Still up to your old tricks Mr. Quill? You'd think.he learned his lesson after screwing Xavier's old lady...

ezio619 - 3/19/2014, 4:59 PM
my theory:i think yondu is sent to save star lord and his mom from whatever alien race that is trying to kill the royal bloodline cause star lord is a prince in the comics ,he is unable to save the mother but saves peter andwhen he is going to take him to his father, has achange of heart due to maybe yondu not wanting him to be involved in this war and raises him himself
ezio619 - 3/19/2014, 5:04 PM
ilove the set star lord is walking through, the water, the sandiness
Dumegg - 3/19/2014, 5:05 PM

Melkaticox - 3/19/2014, 5:11 PM
...For some reason I read "Yondu" as "Ronan".

Hehehe, that would've been awkward...
AC1 - 3/19/2014, 5:11 PM
Really looking forward to this, never read a GOTG comic or watched a cartoon or anything before, I've never had any exposure to them, so I'm excited to have the opportunity to go and watch a CBM with pretty much no preconceived knowledge, should be a pretty refreshing way to watch a superhero movie.
SuperCat - 3/19/2014, 5:13 PM
Starlord just needs a hug.

ezio619 - 3/19/2014, 5:20 PM
i wonder what other 80s songs are in it,starlord apprently does footloose references in the film which is hilarious,i know there is a scene in which star lord is in his ship and is trying to get to ronans massives spaceship, we see it in the trailer ,i kinda want there to be this song Danger Zone by Kenny Loggins playing in the back
Minato - 3/19/2014, 5:22 PM
Have we gotten confirmation if Quills guns fire the elements or not?
soforizo - 3/19/2014, 5:22 PM
"But deep down he is lonely, ...he misses his family, his community, and through the course of the story he learns to care again... “It’s a beautiful story, a great uplifting story...”

PS. LOL! Sorry but it was too tempting.
Anyways, it remains to be seen if it will be able to achieve that E.T. moment it's aiming for.
