Star Trek 2

Viacom CEO Philippe Dauman recently offered brief updates on the latest installments in three of Paramount Pictures cash cows, the rebooted Star Trek saga, the Transformers franchise and the Paranormal Activity series.

Star Trek 2 is finally starting to pick up and get itself together, following a year of slow developments. Work on the fourth installments of the Transformers Franchise and the Paranormal Activity Franchise has (reportedly) begun, but both are all-but-guaranteed to come to fruition eventually.

Dauman told THR that previous reports about director/producer J.J. Abrams being committed to Star Trek 2 were indeed correct– and that the filmmaker is currently focused on developing the next installment in the science fiction franchise. However, those who were still holding out hopes that the Star Trek sequel –which may feature Benicio Del Toro as its mystery villain– could pull a First Class and get it's self together for a late 2012 release will be dissappointed to know that that's not happening.

Paramount now has a potential 2013 release in mind for Star Trek 2. While Summer 2013 seems the obvious route to take, there are already several significant Geek Franchises flicks scheduled to arrive throughout that season, which are Iron Man 3, Man of Steel, Pacific Rim and Oblivion.

It’s possible that Paramount will decide to delay the sequel until the winder, possibly just before The Hobbit: There and Back Again storms into theatres worldwide. If that is the case, then I think that is a very bad decision on their part, as The Hobbit could fill the Fantasy gap in the market now that Harry Potter has ended.

Transformers 4

The company provided further confirmation that ideas for the project are actively being proposed. Regardless of whether or not Michael 'Boom-Boom' Bay returns as director (let's hope he doesn't), for now it’s simply a waiting game to find out what the next installment(s) in the franchise about aliens that transform into Earth vehicles will actully be about, not that the previous 3 movies were about anything.

Anyway, Star Trek 2 will be released sometime in 2013 and Transformers 4 will (hopefully not) be released sometime in the future!

If they push Star Trek 2 back any further after summer 2013, I'll be seriously pissed off. Too many delays on this project, I won't accept a Winter 2013 release.
And no Transformers 4, unless it's a prequel/reboot.
RunDTC - 11/14/2011, 9:57 AM
I'll pay to see both.

Star Trek >>> Transformers

@teabag- I've got a feeling that the Star Trek part had been covered, but not in as much detail as in the article. As far as I recall, the Transformers bit is new.

please no Bay

there was enough cluster [frick] in the 3rd film

Megatron should've ripped Bay in half at the end of the 1st movie & saved us from the stench of the next 2.

I don't think Trek being pushed to 2013 was definite until now. An yeah, the Transformers bit seems new.

i love the disdain for transformers! LOL

i am mixed about abram's-trek but i'd see the sequel.
soberchimera - 11/14/2011, 3:21 PM
What's Oblivion? Never heard of that.

I haven't even seen Transformers 3 yet. 2013 is a long wait for Star Trek, but it will be worth it.

There will still be some shuffling when it comes to release dates for 2013. Singularity's start date has been pushed back and it's director's last film (2012) was pushed back out of a summer date to the winter season. Other films like RIPD appear to be really reaching by trying to snag prime release dates like the 4th of July period.Anyway,Paramount and FOX do not have any tent poles for summer 2013,so it appears that Star Trek and The Wolverine will find their way into the summer season.
AutobotCommander84 - 11/14/2011, 4:12 PM
I will admit that I liked the first three Transformers films but come on, where are they going to take the story without bringing back Megatron and keeping it interesting? They should just reboot it with a darker tone and take Sam/Spike back to high school like the new Spider-Man reboot.
blkyank - 11/14/2011, 4:19 PM
My guess is that Star Trek will be set for June 28th 2013,pushing RIPD back to July 19th where it will take the place of oblivion which will be pushed into August. The Wolverine will be come out July 12th which is still an open date and a month after Man of Steel. That way we have 3 Superhero films that summer that don't cannibalize each other. It also sets up August 2013 as a strong month for serious SCI-FI films with Oblivion and likely another Planet of the Apes film.
YoungThanos - 11/14/2011, 5:24 PM
@Autobotcommander84, Reboot? Yes! Teenage Spike/Sam NOOOOOOO! There's been too much focus on annoying human idiots to begin with. If wacky antics in high school featuring some transforming robots is what you've got in mind then what would be the point in resetting it?
cjkalel - 11/14/2011, 5:52 PM
Its funny how everybody saying there shouldn't be a transformers 4 can tell how bad the third one was. You mean u didn't like any of them but you saw all of them and you know your gonna see the 4th who's the ass
bababoozer - 11/14/2011, 5:52 PM
Abrams has to be one of the slowest film makers around. At this rate Chris Pine will be Shatner's age NOW by the time ST6 comes out.
Rodimus9 - 11/14/2011, 9:44 PM
Kinda lame the way you bash the Transformers series through your "article". Maybe you should keep your opinions to the comments part, makes you sound like a 14 year old.
eatburn - 11/15/2011, 3:16 AM
I love the TF flicks man, even tolerated "Revenge.." But we're all Bay-ed out. Neil Blomkamp TF4 FTW! ; )
DarthLaney - 11/15/2011, 4:58 AM
TF1 was great
TF2 was rushed under strike pressure, it wasn't as good as 1 and 3 but probably understandable and pushed through by studio pressure when they needed a summer tent pole.
TF3 was very good, if not better than 1

Not sure what you base the TF and Bay bashing on, pretty unfounded
Mixbreed - 11/15/2011, 5:03 AM
I agree with DarthLaney. I love the Transformers franchise! bring on a 4TH! They can have my money!
TheBurnSays - 11/15/2011, 7:43 AM
Please stop saying you hate TF movies or Michael Bay cause it's not true. You all saw the movies and you all said the 3rd was great but now that a 4th is coming...NOOOOOO! We hate TF movies!!! Lose the trend and have a real opinion for once. Is it that "cool" to say you hate something?!" Really?! Mindless p.o.s? Maybe. Great fun? Oh yeah!
Sorry, had to say it.
Tainted87 - 11/15/2011, 8:24 AM
It doesn't matter how I feel about the Transformers movies... they can't do anything with a 4th outing.

All the cons are dead. No more Megatron, Starscream, Soundwave, Barricade, Shockwave, Lazerbeak.... they have all punched their ticket.

A prequel in the design that follows the Michael Bay films would be horrific, considering you REALLY can't distinguish one protoform from another in Dark of the Moon's opening sequence.

All that is left is a complete and utter reboot.
MovieMaster - 11/17/2011, 7:59 AM
@Tainted87- The only way to continue is to do a two-part movie with Unicron, considering that they may film 4 and 5 back-to-back.
