To help celebrate Batman's 75th anniversary, a humble Imgurian has assembled an album showcasing photos from behind the scenes of 8 different Batman films. From the days of Adam West as the Caped Crusader to Christian Bale and Anne Hathaway gearing up as Batman and Catwoman, take a moment and gander at the many years of popularity, success, and fond memories.

Batman is the super-hero protector of Gotham City, a man dressed like a bat who fights against evil and strikes terror into the hearts of criminals everywhere. In his secret identity, he assumes the alias of Bruce Wayne, billionaire industrialist and notorious playboy; though "Bruce Wayne" is technically his real name, this Bruce Wayne is a disguise--that of the man he would have been had his parents not been murdered before his eyes when he was no more than a mere boy.

Although Batman possesses no super-human powers, he is one of the world's smartest men and greatest fighters. His physical prowess and technical ingenuity make him an incredibly dangerous opponent. He is also a founding member of the Justice League and the Outsiders. Dick Grayson, the first "crime orphan" to assume the identity of Robin and be nicknamed "The Boy Wonder," who currently uses the alias of Nightwing, is Wayne's hand-picked successor, and they operate simultaneously as part of Batman Incorporated.

Batman was created by Bill Finger with Bob Kane, first appearing in Detective Comics #27. (1939) Since then, Batman has been one of the most well-known DC Comics characters rivaling Superman and Wonder Woman, throughout his entire publication history and even in other media. This also extends to his supporting cast and his rogues gallery, not least, as described above, the Joker.

Practical visual effects galore.. that era has come to an end with Zack Snyder taking on Bats, that much can be said for sure.

I'm sure the CGI cape will be glorious, though.

You can see why they paint all the 'bat-actors' around the eyes.

Bane keeps looking worse and worse. And I do mean the TDKR's Bane.
case - 4/1/2014, 10:33 PM
Love the 89 Bats and Joker one.
Brainiac13 - 4/2/2014, 1:25 AM
Great pics.......I hope they do a animation short.
bcom - 4/2/2014, 1:50 AM
These photos are awesome! Love the miniature model of Gotham from Burton's first Batman. I still think that after all these years that the Batman Returns cowl is by far the best of the live action Batman films. It just looks so Neil Adams-ish and iconic.

Nothing from the original B&W serials from the '40s? They were also re-released as 2 cut together films, in the '50s, though I've never been able to find a copy of these two (officially the first two Bat-films). You'd think there would be some geek out there that felt these films were significant enough to unearth, at some point.
From The Batman (1943):

And here is the only proof I can find of the 1949 serial, The Adventures of Batman and Robin, as a film re-titled Batman and Robin, The Wonder Boy:

Heath Ledger's face looking up at that smiling guy in the striped shirt is freakin' hilarious.
