By TheSkywalkingKnight - 7/17/2012

"The Dark Knight Rises is an ambitious, thoughtful, and potent action film that concludes Christopher Nolan's franchise in spectacular fashion, even if it doesn't quite meet the high standard set by its predecessor."

It has been eight years since Batman vanished into the night, turning, in that instant, from hero to fugitive. Assuming the blame for the death of D.A. Harvey Dent, the Dark Knight sacrificed everything for what he and Commissioner Gordon both hoped was the greater good. For a time the lie worked, as criminal activity in Gotham City was crushed under the weight of the anti-crime Dent Act. But everything will change with the arrival of a cunning cat burglar with a mysterious agenda. Far more dangerous, however, is the emergence of Bane, a masked terrorist whose ruthless plans for Gotham drive Bruce out of his self-imposed exile. But even if he dons the cape and cowl again, Batman may be no match for Bane.

The Dark Knight Rises opens in theaters July 20th. The film stars Christian Bale, Tom Hardy, Anne Hathaway, Gary Oldman, Morgan Freeman, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Marion Colltiard.

I'll wait to see it and find out myself
Knightrider - 7/17/2012, 1:41 PM
12 hours to go here in NZ. Can't wait.
CaptainObvious - 7/17/2012, 1:49 PM
I was never expecting it to be better than TDK. That was a tough act to follow. What I was expecting was an entertaining, engaging film and a satisfying conclusion. According to these reviews, it lived up to those expectations.
QuietStorm - 7/17/2012, 1:52 PM
And here. We. Go!
TheDominicanBoy - 7/17/2012, 1:52 PM
YEEEEEEEEEEEAHHHH NOLAN THE FATHER, REPUBLICA DOMINICANA ACTIVA CON TDKR, LA MEJOR PELICULA DE LA DECADA!!!
TayDee - 7/17/2012, 1:55 PM
Hmmm I would've thought this would've had more favorable reviews than the Avengers. Guess I was wrong but I can't wait to see it anyways
MarkV - 7/17/2012, 1:57 PM
Lets face it folks, we love to argue about this stuff.
returnhangar - 7/17/2012, 1:59 PM

Mago - 7/17/2012, 1:59 PM
So TDKR has a 8.7 and TDK a 8.4... Wait how is TDK better than TDKR than?
DanteSparda - 7/17/2012, 1:59 PM
Mago - 7/17/2012, 2:01 PM

WAIT? So how can The consensus state "NOT BETTER THAN PREDECESOR"? Yet half of THE CRITICS SAY IT IS BETTER AND SOME SAY IT IS ON PAR??? ISNT THAT PREMATURE? FOR A MOVIE THATS GOING TO HAVE AT LEAST 200 REVIEWS?

CAN WE FORCE THEM TO ELIMINATE THAT?
blvdnoise - 7/17/2012, 2:02 PM
Heh..
TheLoveDoc - 7/17/2012, 2:02 PM
@Patrickbateman47
@DanteSparada
There are barely any reviews in. There was a small string of bad reviews, that means nothing.
Heres Metacritic
Avengers-69
Batman Begins-70
TDK-84
TDKR-85

GuardianAngel - 7/17/2012, 2:03 PM
Damn Nolanites are gonna start a war. So what if some critics don't like it! To wach their own.
JatevinM - 7/17/2012, 2:04 PM
I still don't trust Rotten Tomato considering there are some people reviewing badly just to lower it's rating.
Alejandro260 - 7/17/2012, 2:07 PM
I'M not angry at the fact that one movie is better than the other and all that crap everybody can't stop fighting about.

Its about the fact that the site puts an unnecessary final coment on a "consensus" of a very small sample, which isn't even the main consensus.

In statistics, this would be a skewed sample that does not represent the WHOLE POPULATION. It can mislead.

And just ask this: "If TDKR was the movie realeased in 2008, and TDK now, WHAT WOULD THE REACTIONS BE???? EXACTLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WE ARE NOT JUDGING SUBJECTIVELY!
Edmundo - 7/17/2012, 2:12 PM
Tea is so cheeky
PaulRom - 7/17/2012, 2:13 PM
Surprised that we have a consensus already. I've seen many movies not get one until 60-70 reviews in.
marantaz - 7/17/2012, 2:13 PM
I amazes me how many people don't understand that RT is a pooling of reviews from across the nation... it's not a group of people who get together in a dark room and conspire to label a film good or bad... and the critics writing the reviews want to be featured on RT... unlike some other critic site hardly anyone knows exists that one poster likes to mention, RT has rarely failed to gauge accurately the potential appeal of a film.

Of course, anyone that listens to a bunch of professional critics and decided to see or not to see a film based on their opinions is an idiot. we know that.
Nubase - 7/17/2012, 2:15 PM
just remember what this site has been created for, its for fan boys like us to bitch and moan, l really hope that every one on this does not take everything written here too personally, we should enjoy these moments with cbm's cos even though there more to come, not all of them will be epic and l now notice that some fans on this site do not even care if the movie is good, they just want it to make money and there has been a lot of crap movies not just cbm's that made money like transformers for example, l certainly do not want cbm's to made just for that cos then the quality will go down.
Greengo - 7/17/2012, 2:17 PM
I'll say it again: ROTTEN TOMATOES SUCKS!!!!!!!!
TheLoveDoc - 7/17/2012, 2:17 PM
@PaulRom
I find it odd, and unfair at the same time. The consenus does not represent a majority view, and it is unessecary. Granted I have not seen it, it still goes against what many critics have said.
myparentsaredead - 7/17/2012, 2:17 PM
The consensus is premature. The movie's still 3 days, with only 40 reviews in. Even if it ends up being true, it's still too early.
Lazarusreborn - 7/17/2012, 2:19 PM
Still trying to by fork and screen tickets at AMC downtown disney and they are still not available!!!!

AsianVersionOfET - 7/17/2012, 2:23 PM
Bane has the best quotes. People are going to be quoting him as much, or even MORE so than Heath Ledger's Joker. Cannot wait!
Alejandro260 - 7/17/2012, 2:25 PM
So, the question is:
If most of the reviews that are yet to come in state that it is better and/or if it gets a higher rating than TDK,

will RT change the part that reads "does not meet standard of predecessor?"
amxt - 7/17/2012, 2:25 PM
Catwoman is the breast!
myparentsaredead - 7/17/2012, 2:28 PM
@Alejandro260

They've never changed their consensus, so it remains to be seen.
AsianVersionOfET - 7/17/2012, 2:29 PM
@Alejandro260, exactly. RT [frick]ing sucks. They're completely biased. Anything the general public likes, they have to be different and not like it. I RARELY visit their website and when I do, I'm reminded of how much I despise it and why I never go on it.
JumpinJehosaphat - 7/17/2012, 2:39 PM
To the CBM community, even a 99% approval rating would equal, "So, it sucks? I KNEW IT!!!!1!!1!" Blackandyellow has so accurately satirized what's what!
UncleJimmy - 7/17/2012, 2:43 PM
RT is owned by warner bros.
cantfakethefunkdj - 7/17/2012, 2:48 PM
87? not bad.
WOLFODON - 7/17/2012, 2:51 PM
Check out each reviewers past "fresh/rotten" listing history and you will get a great feel for these "experts" of cinema. I AM THE NIGHT!
Priest - 7/17/2012, 2:53 PM
Now back to 85%. Tsk tsk.

It MUST be some sort of conspiracy, right?
Garmanbozia - 7/17/2012, 3:00 PM
87% is very good anyways! But to me RT is not a great reference to movie reviews. I prefer IMDb by far.

But at the end of the day, it's our own opinion that counts. I can't wait for the Thursday midnight release!
LoudNoises - 7/17/2012, 3:01 PM
People are following these RT scores like they are stock prices.

"The score has dropped, SELL, SELL, SELL!!!!"
UrbanKnight - 7/17/2012, 3:04 PM
Kinda early but I can live with that:) Now for my opinion...
Greengo - 7/17/2012, 3:05 PM
@BLACKANDYELLOW: LOL... YOU'RE BEING SARCASTIC... RIGHT?

RIIIGGHHTTT???
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/17/2012, 3:05 PM
There are still hundreds of reviews to be had. But yeah, about what I thought. I still think it will creep up to 90% but not much higher. It is a polarizing story, and TDK is a hard movie to stack up to. I liked the look and feel of TDKR much more than TDK, but there is no Heath Ledger type performance even though everyone is spectacular.
musashi - 7/17/2012, 3:05 PM
Too late, already got my tickets! I'm going to do something radical and make up my own mind!
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/17/2012, 3:05 PM
Double D hasn't been banned yet for his trolling lol.
marvel72 - 7/17/2012, 3:05 PM
nolanites use rotten tomatoes rating percentages to suit them,if they want to prove how great a director nolan is they list his films with the rotten tomatoes ratings next to them & always posting the dark knight 94%.

but now its gone against them they don't like it,i'm sure its a good film but not as good as the previous movies.
SuspenseSmith - 7/17/2012, 3:06 PM
87... my lucky number.

but seriously... that consensus is kind of... well... cliched and feels predetermined.

I liked the Dark Knight, but NOW I'm feeling it's over-phrased for its own good.
SuspenseSmith - 7/17/2012, 3:07 PM
@DoubleD

WTF you talking about willis? It's 85 just now.
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/17/2012, 3:09 PM
Just ignore DoubleD, probably some 12 year old butt hurt Marvel fan. Marvel had it's turn to shine in May, not it's the Dark Knight Rises turn. Get over it dude.
Garmanbozia - 7/17/2012, 3:11 PM
Is RT truly reliable? The Avengers got a 92% on RT but got a 69/100 on metacritic...hmmm..
RidiculousFanBoyDemands - 7/17/2012, 3:12 PM
Nah dude your trolling this article like some jealous troll. You're doing nothing but embarrassing yourself and giving Marvel fans a bad name. You'll get banned eventually, not like it would be any great loss to the CBM community.
