Total Film recently conducted a Top fifty most disappointing movies list on their site. Several critically panned comic book movies made the list, including three in the Top ten. But, the film that came out on top was 2008's Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. Down below, check out Total Film's reasoning for putting the flick on top, and also, check out the comic book movies that made the Top 50 list!

Why People Were Excited: All the original ingredients were in place, including both Spielberg and Lucas, and while Harrison Ford was knocking on a bit, we were still hopeful he could roll out some "too old for this shit" patter to paper over the cracks. Plus, it's Indy! How bad could it be?

Why They Ended Up Disappointed: Hmm, where to start? First off, there was the over-reliance on some distinctly shoddy CGI. Then there was Ray Winstone shouting "JONESY" every five minutes. And of course we mustn't forget that risible nuclear fridge moment. But most unforgivable was the fact that the story simply wasn't up to scratch. Aliens? No thanks.

3. X-Men: The Last Stand
5. Spider-Man 3
8. Superman Returns
13. Green Lantern
15. Fantastic Four
19. Batman and Robin
22. Iron Man 2
28. Hulk
30. X-Men Origins: Wolverine
31. The Spirit
32. Catwoman

Also included on the list are Godzilla from 1998, Prometheus, Quantam of Solace, The Matrix Revolutions, Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace and of course much, much more; click HERE to read the rest of the list!

no one was expecting much?
valeriesghost - 8/24/2012, 6:31 PM
I agree with all 10 of those picks
THEDARKKNIGHT1939 - 8/24/2012, 6:32 PM
Last stand was more disappointing than Batman & Robin? wth
Edmundo - 8/24/2012, 6:32 PM
Batman and Robin less disappointing than Fantastic Four? Both were bad films but B&R killed Batman for a few years. Oh right lists are designed to spur discussions.
wolverine1987 - 8/24/2012, 6:32 PM
Why is Iron Man 2 on the list, and for some "magical" reason people think Ghost Rider is any better?

Nicolas Cage was terrible in those movies...waste of money

oh, Grif. Your annoyance has been missed!
LoudNoises - 8/24/2012, 6:53 PM
Based on expectation, I'm gonna guess phantom Menace was in the top 3.
bhorwith22 - 8/24/2012, 6:53 PM
Should be replaced with Temple of Doom. Not only is it the worst Indiana Jones movie BY FAR, it is also one of the worst movies ever made.
Vital - 8/24/2012, 6:55 PM
I don't think Iron Man 2 should be up there, but whatever. I also didn't mind Last Stand either, but I'm not the majority.
geeekgod - 8/24/2012, 6:56 PM
THE SPIRIT= SUCKED!!!
SUPERMAN RETURNS= SUCKED!!!
CATWOMAN= SUCKED!!!

BATMAN & ROBIN= SUCKED!!

where's barb wire or steel???
they [frick]ing sucked, too!!!
johnny1 - 8/24/2012, 6:59 PM
Why does everyone seem to have such a problem with aliens being in an Indiana Jones movie? That movie was just as silly and ridiculous as the other three movies. Temple of Doom was a far inferior movie anyways. Why people hate Crystal Skull so much is beyond me.
Mechagino - 8/24/2012, 7:03 PM
*smacks the creator for GL, Superman, SM3, and Indiana jones IV. *
Christuffer - 8/24/2012, 7:06 PM
Iron Man 2, Indy 5, and Superman Returns were all awesome.

No real fans today man...
Christuffer - 8/24/2012, 7:06 PM
And Star Wars prequels rocked too.
KingG - 8/24/2012, 7:08 PM
Not surprised that some of these are up here.
GoILL - 8/24/2012, 7:22 PM
Iron Man 2 was the best movie out of the ones selected IMO.
KingG - 8/24/2012, 7:26 PM
It seems that some people are trying to take Marvel movies out of the equation becuz those movies were no better except for X-MEN 3, but thats just my opinion.
CampBlood - 8/24/2012, 7:26 PM
WTF why is Prometheus on there
CampBlood - 8/24/2012, 7:30 PM
I mean fricking jar jar binks and that big fat emo vagina anakin 2 & 3 are better than Prometheus
Tomontherun99 - 8/24/2012, 7:30 PM
I don't think most of you are getting it, it's not "Worst movies" It's "Most disappointing movies". Most people weren't expecting much from the Batman franchise after Forever so that's not as big a disappointment as the terrible Last Stand following on from the fantastic X-Men United therefore films like Ghost Rider wouldn't be on this list because no one expected too much from it.
One2ephu - 8/24/2012, 7:31 PM
XMen 3 is so underrated. It's probably my favourte of the trilogy. Some of the best action sequences and least whiny story. I'd also note that Iron man 2 and Green lantern are not horrible films, both are above average and have great moments. I also really liked prometheus, a movie that makes you think over and want to discuss is a good movie in my book.

Also, they definately left out the worst cbms like; elektra, daredevi, catwoman, jonah hex, ghost rider 1&2, howard te duck, punisher'ss, spawn, etc..
riseofloganX36 - 8/24/2012, 7:33 PM
all these movies are great except for Batman & robin.

Heres mine.

Batman forever

Batman & robin

X-men First class

And the cherry on this shit sunday...

The Amzing Spider-Man!

But out of all of these The Amazing Spider-Man is the worse out of all of these. I rather watch all these movies then the wose comic book movie of all time.

Howard the Duck is a beter movie than Amazing Spider-Man, and Howard the duck is more true to the comic than amazing spider-man.

The person who made this list don't know his ass from his elbow. He sounds like all you people. Winy and Bitchy.

UNTIL next time TRUE BELIEVERS!

Bleargh. Spirit.
KingG - 8/24/2012, 7:40 PM
riseofLOGAN, be careful, theres some die-hard SPIDER-MAN/MARVEL fans.
rick420wood - 8/24/2012, 7:41 PM
I LOVED Batman And Robin; George Clooney was the best Batman to date.
jimpinto24 - 8/24/2012, 7:42 PM
I beg to differ with this list. The Fantastic 4 was a solid movie, and did well at the box offices. Fantastic 4 is another underrated comic book movie.
KingG - 8/24/2012, 7:47 PM
I think X-MEN 3, and GREEN LANTERN were very underrated, GREEN LANTERN wasnt the best comic book movie but it was a pretty entertaining movie overall.
jessepostal - 8/24/2012, 7:55 PM
Transformers 2 was a big let down for me, so was jurassic park 2,ace ventura 2,saw 2 thru whatever number there at, predator 2,fantastic four 2, batman 3 and 4,tmnt 3, ha i think i can go on for hours.
Insomnium - 8/24/2012, 7:58 PM
lol the spirit i forgot that movie even existed?
superotherside - 8/24/2012, 7:58 PM
Iron Man 2, and Spider-man 3 have no business being up there. They weren't great, but the were good films. They have their flaws but not one of the worst films by any rate.
DrainBamage - 8/24/2012, 8:00 PM
I agree with Tomontherun99. This is simply a list of films that didn't meet expectations, not necessarily bad.

That being said, who expected anything good out of The Spirit? I knew from the teaser trailer that it was going to suck.
KingG - 8/24/2012, 8:03 PM
SMFH..........:p
StormLoganSummers - 8/24/2012, 8:05 PM
Iron Man 2 was great. It shouldn't be up there.
KingG - 8/24/2012, 8:11 PM
Some of these movies are underrated, some were just disappointing and some were mostly just good movies but didnt proper treatment.
StingrayX - 8/24/2012, 8:21 PM
Why the hell is Iron Man 2 on the list?
ChanchoMcGrady - 8/24/2012, 8:24 PM
Indiana 4 was not as bad as people say. Certainly not the best of the series, but a good movie. Iron Man 2 was not bad either. It may have had too much SHIELD stuff, but everything else was pretty cool. The only disappointments I had with the movie is that they never even mentioned the word "Whiplash" and the fact that the last fight was between Iron Man, War Machine, and Whiplash was too short. Green Lantern also was not as awful as people say, though it had much more potential.
jshark - 8/24/2012, 8:34 PM
This isn't a list of the worst movies, it's disappointing movies. I think of it in terms of trailers to movies. If the trailer got me psyched and if it's a sequel, then the anticipation is high. But the delivery bombs, then it gets on this list. I would say some of the movies that didn't make the list or didn't rank higher had already lowered their own expectations prior to release. Case in point, Ghost Rider, having Nicholas Cage cast already lowered expectations so it wasn't all that disappointing.
riseofloganX36 - 8/24/2012, 8:38 PM
@kinG Yeah well so am i. And if these people liked amazing spider-man then they should check them selves, cause that wasen't the amazing spider-man i grew up with as a kid.

Sam Rami got it right and mark webb shoud take his head out his ass while filming this then mebey the suit wouldent of looked like shit.

UNTIL next time TRUE BELIEVERS!
KingG - 8/24/2012, 8:44 PM
riseofLOGANX36, hhhhhhhhmmmmmmmm............. interesting, i mean i still havent seen all of the TASM but i do think the movie got mixed reviews.
