With the release of the second theatrical trailer last week, Warner Bros. have been releasing more and more from Peter Jackson's The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey, including a new theatrical poster that was just released on the Director's Facebook page, check it out below!

The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.

Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum.

Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s "precious" ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

The first installment in The Hobbit trilogy stars Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins, Ian McKellen as Gandalf the Grey, Richard Armitage as Thorin Oakenshield, Andy Serkis as Gollum, Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Benedict Cumberbatch as Smaug, Luke Evans as Bard the Bowman, Christopher Lee as Saruman the White, Cate Blanchett as Galadriel, Elijah Wood as Frodo Baggins and Orlando Bloom as Legolas. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theaters December 14th 2012, the second installment, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits December 13th, 2013 and the third chapter of the trilogy, The Hobbit: There and Back Again hits Summer 2014!

@Jonathan

Have you read the Hobbit? There is a good bit of the story that has a different tone to it than the tone throughout LoTR. The tale starts out as an adventure, not a dire quest like the Fellowship of the Ring. Plus it's 12 dwarves, what did you expect? The movies will take a darker tone as you get further into it and we begin to encounter the darker elements of the story (i.e. the spiders, goblins, Smaug, etc.).

Idk the make-up and hair looks sooooo fake. Look a the guy third down on the right with the head tattoos. I don't think i've ever seen a more obvious bald cap...

Ya I'm gonna see it but I don't think it's going to be all that special. No doubt in my mind that it's going to make a lot of money though.

LOL, @tea!

this has a much more "cartoony" feel to it than the LOTR trilogy...

nope... "sexy face" dwarf looks too out of place in that poster.

That reminds me of the muppets or Toy Story 3 poster. Dont like that poster, but still excited for the hobbit

am i the only one who has always liked the hobbit more than lord of the rings? i always liked the end battle in the hobbit more than the one in lord of the rings... mainly because the great eagles were more involved and they were my favorite race in the books

No soaponarope, you are not alone. Although we do not share the preference for the eagles ;-)
