Famed European illustrator Minck Oosterveer was killed in a motorcycle accident this weekend. Although no official reports have been published, witnesses claim that Oostervere was hit by a reckless driver who had swerved into oncoming traffic. The artist was 50 years old at the time.
Oostervere is perhaps best known to American audiences for his work on Marvel's mini-series
Ruse and
BOOM! comic series
The Unknown. The artist frequently collaborated with famed DC and Marvel scribe Mark Waid, who had this to say about the tragic incident:
I appreciate the condolences from all regarding the abrupt death of Minck Oosterveer. He was a phenomenal talent and a good man
Colleague and agent Renee Witterstaetter had this to add:
Minck was without a doubt one of the wittiest, and nicest people I’ve met in comics or anywhere. I don’t believe it would even be possible to find anyone that would have anything negative to say about the man. You could only know Minck a minute and he’d have you feeling at ease. Like you’d been friends forever.
