Marvel Comics. . . Theme Park!

That's right, concept art has just been released for an ENTIRE theme park dedicated to Marvel characters.
Most of Marvel's superheroes will have their own individual attractions including: the Fantastic Four, the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, the X-Men, Silver Surfer, and, of course, Spider-man. According to a a recent post of Brady MacDonald of the L.A Times "Off-site testing has already begun on three of the planned attractions: "Flying with Spidey," "Fantasticar," and "X-Men: Danger Room".

Q: Can you guess where this park will be located (look below for the answer)?

Here is the concept art for the park, created by Chimera Designs:

Park Entrance

Aerial view

Notice the Nickelodeon area.

Park Map

The open space will supposedly be filled with more rides.

Entrance to the City of Superheros

Notice the FF logo?

City of Superheroes

I can see Daredevil, Spider-Man, Namor, Falcon and Gladiator. Did you notice any others?

3-D character show

I don't know who the heck this guy is. . .

Spider-Man interactive ride

Oasis of Magic

Dr. Strange is a given. . . who else would fit in here?

There's no description for this photo. . . but it looks like it could be Wakanda to me!

Stark Industries

An unnamed submersible roller coaster . . . Namor anyone?

A: Dubai (United Arab Emirates). The park is a joint venture between the Al Ahli Group and Marvel Entertainment. It will supposedly cost around $1 billion to construct, and is scheduled to open in 2012.

MPP - Ummm. . . I really don't know what to say except HELL YEAH! I'm going to start saving up some cash right freakin' now!

Hope they don't use no ULTIMATE Sh1t! ; D

DISNEY strikes back!!

I bet ol' MICKEY MOUSE will be there somewhere lol.
LEEE777 - 12/2/2009, 6:30 AM
holy shit that looks cool!! Gettin a tour of stark industries would be cool as hell! and maybe when you go underwater they have some computer generate atlantis all around you...that would be cool!!
Ryden - 12/2/2009, 6:32 AM
Niiiiiccccceeeee........Dubai though? They should put it next to Disney World, that way you can take in both. :)
Runefyst - 12/2/2009, 6:37 AM
Im not in the least bit suprised that something of this scale would be in Dubai! I cant imagine how [frick]ing amazing it'll be if it looks even a fraction like the images above!
JoshW - 12/2/2009, 6:48 AM
Guys, open the images (right click, view) to see them full sized! The details are amazing!
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 6:51 AM
wait a second! Dubai? wtf.....which idiot frm Disney or MARVEL thought of the idea of taking it international?
blueorangeny - 12/2/2009, 6:55 AM
@josh: See you there opening weekend :)

@blue: Well, the deal to build the park was made in 2007, after Marvel filed bankruptcy and before the Disney merger.

NOT basing it in the US is a very smart move. There are important reasons why this park needs to stay out of the US:

- US tourism is at an all time low
- International box office profits usually superceed US profits for comic movies
- The US dollar value is still on the decline
- Ease of travel to and from the US very limited

Dubai is a beautiful place to visit and they get alot of high end tourists.

MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 7:01 AM
F*cking Dubai?? WTF?! Horseshit!

Blueorangeny: is that you in your avatar?
superman7 - 12/2/2009, 7:04 AM
why is there spongebob at the entrance and orange splats? it must have to do with universal
Nivag76 - 12/2/2009, 7:05 AM
Maybe if the park does well in dubai they will consider opening one in the states?
thenumber12 - 12/2/2009, 7:08 AM
I remeber the 3D Spiderman ride in univeral studios! It was Awesome!! Well it was when I was 12!!

This looks like a great Idea and putting it out side the US is a great idea but instead of Dubai I think it would be even better in my garden!!
TheAnswer - 12/2/2009, 7:10 AM
@TheAnswer: Nothing quite like waking up in the morning and waking through Stark Industries to get your cup of coffee :)
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 7:12 AM
This looks realy good. Only the names of the rides sound a bit lame. "flying with spidey" FTW!
As for Dubai, that's realy just retarded. The Island they build is allready in financial need. And why drop a park in a sandpit :S. Just put it somewhere in Europe!
Spilox - 12/2/2009, 7:13 AM
Well I would have preferred it to be opened in the u.s., but hey, beggars can't be choosers. This is great news! Marvel really seems to be dominating nowadays. I like the designs for the park. This place is really gonna be big (both literally and figuratively).
supermarioworldE - 12/2/2009, 7:17 AM
Multi@ all ur points r valid...but wouldnt sumtin like this help boost the u.s. economy?...i dont kno alotta ppl who can afford 2 fly 2 dubai ontop of the im sure expensive as hell park tickets and expences...o well maybe disney world will add sum marvel stuff...oh and dubai does look like paradise!
~X
XmutantX - 12/2/2009, 7:46 AM
i think its mostly in Dubai because of Universal Studios' next park is gonna be in dubai, that would be another reason to visit Dubai, for both parks, Universal is actually using Marvel more than Disney, i wish they would've bought them instead cause they obviously know how to use Marvel
lilej2 - 12/2/2009, 7:48 AM
well disney JUST bought them so giv it time lol
XmutantX - 12/2/2009, 7:55 AM
@Xmutant: The park is a joint venture between the Al Ahli Group (UAE based) and Marvel Entertainment that began in '07. I'm sure that if a US company had forked over $1 billion, it would be based in the US. But no US company stepped up.
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 7:55 AM
i think the "wakanda" picture is actually an x-men related area if you look at the picture closely, you can see some of the x-men like the banner on the top left corner of the picture appears to be wolverine
13ulletpr00f17 - 12/2/2009, 7:59 AM
@13: Very good observation! Maybe it's the Danger Room ride :)

The picture gives off a tribal feel and, after seeing the Storm statue on the top, I guess (and hope) it's Wakanda. But then again, Spidey and Thing are there too, so who the hell knows.

Did you notice the 'Daredevil Night Flight' ride poster in the NYC pic?
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 8:02 AM
Cool news. Dubai is disappointing though. I'll have a hard time convincing someone to go to Dubai for a theme park.
stark - 12/2/2009, 8:04 AM
Guys - the whole Dubai thing sucks, but it makes sense (kinda'... ok maybe not). A CORPORATION has got to pimp their product where the money is...

Breaking News - Disney Merges With Marvel Comics: Takeover Begins
moar funny pictures

The question is 'the money' into Marvel comics as much as we are here. I have a feeling this is going to go over in Dubai about as well as Euro-Disney went in France!

grif - 12/2/2009, 8:06 AM
THIS IS A DISNEY MOVE..AND ITS A GOOD ONE.WAY TO GO DISNEY, THIS IS WHAT WE WANTED...I WONDER WHAT THE STORES THERE WOULD BE LIKE?, COOLER MERCHANDISE NOT FOUND IN STORES OR EVEN COMICON ANYONE?..BEST IDEA...EVER EVER THANK YOU DISNEY!
GUNSMITH - 12/2/2009, 8:06 AM
Eat my ass Dubai. In 50 years, it'll be a super fancy dust bowl wasteland.
imnotwearinghockeypants - 12/2/2009, 8:06 AM
Damn, by the negative comments I can tell who lives in the US LOL

As much as I'd like this to be stateside, I'm just glad we're getting something this EPIC at all!
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 8:10 AM
my friends who went to Dubi said its a great place. good place for a holiday.
jazzman - 12/2/2009, 8:19 AM
I would happily live in it! Looks amazing.

Who the hell is that blue dude with the bow and arrow?
RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 8:22 AM
I wonder how big the whole thing will end up being?
JoshW - 12/2/2009, 8:28 AM
@Ror: I call the Oasis of Magic for my living room. I'll never need a tv :)

I have no idea who that blue guy is. Looks like he belongs in James Cameron's Avatar. . . that sneaky f*cker got him in the mix somehow.
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 8:29 AM
I hear that Dubai is now going bankrupt worse than we are in the USA. Sadly I doubt this will see the light of day.

necrosage2005 - 12/2/2009, 8:29 AM
Well ofcourse they would make a separate park ... Shit the Marvel Super Hero's are not welcome at universal anymore since Disney the devil owns them now...
thegreek - 12/2/2009, 8:30 AM
damn that Hulu video its only for the US what does the video tells you
jazzman - 12/2/2009, 8:34 AM
@necrosage: If you look at it from a financial standpoint, Dubai isn't in that bad shape considering the US is in debt for 1.4 trillion dollars as of September. Dubai's debt came from loans needed to build all the venues for tourism. Dubai makes an average yearly profit of $900 million on tourism alone. I think they'll be fine.
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 8:34 AM
Universal did it...
Stumblin - 12/2/2009, 9:04 AM
It's a dream come true. I think I'm gonna cry. That is definitely #1 on my list of things to do before I die!

Multipurposeponi@: Great find! I will never ever forget this. This is the best find ever in my book!
airbeyonder18 - 12/2/2009, 9:13 AM
Yes it is disapointing that it's in Dubai for those of us who live in the U.S. including myself. But MPP is right, they actually made a theme park about superheroes, even if it's in Dubai who cares? It could be a "Super Adventure"! So suck it up fellow Americans, we live in a country where we can get a job and save money so we can travel if we wanted to!
airbeyonder18 - 12/2/2009, 9:23 AM
Looking at some of the amazing stuff thats been built in Dubai the past few years, it could actually be a good thing that its being built there! I just hope it doesnt end up being tacky - I think that theres always a risk of something like that but with $1 billion being spent I highly doubt in on second thoughts! :P

Guys, go check out my ULTIMATES fan cast!!!

Dubai = Sinking Fast...
I - 12/2/2009, 9:33 AM
This is a Joke, there in NO way they are building an amusement park for Marvel in Dubai, it would be bankrupt before the 1st year was over. Who would frequent the place, Osama and a bunch of Sheiks?
TheThing - 12/2/2009, 9:36 AM
Jesus just keep it in the US. Marvel is a US company. We should get the park first.
akthunder - 12/2/2009, 9:39 AM
MultiPurposePoni @ I think you mean the US is in debt 12 trillion... they way obama has things running, will be 14 trillion sooner than we think.. :p
WarNoodle - 12/2/2009, 9:39 AM
FREAKIN AWESOME!!!!
HelaGood - 12/2/2009, 9:43 AM
Actually Multi, i'm Canadian and you couldn't pay me enough to go there. I don't know if the rules and regulations work similar to in Oman but i know someone that moved there and let me just tell you that you're lucky to be married. It's not a very "unmarried couple" friendly environement. And since i don't believe in marriage, civil or religious, i'm not going there.
Shaman - 12/2/2009, 9:48 AM
Dubai is a house of cards. It will fall sooner than later.

I'm Canadian, but the first place they should have built the park should have been in either California or Florida.

Dubai is too expensive for the average Joe to afford.
CyberViking2000 - 12/2/2009, 9:48 AM
jazzman, Try seeing the entire episode on: http://www.thedailyshow.com/full-episodes/257631/tue-december-01-2009-thomas-friedman

MultiPurposePoni, don't get me wrong, I really hope that it really IS built and it is successful enough that more countries want to build one for themselves. I'm just thinking that their bubble is bursting like the US's was a few years ago.
necrosage2005 - 12/2/2009, 9:49 AM
@multi Great find...just great. I'm thinking Walt Disney would vomit were his head unfrozen today.

I'm never going to Dubai, and neither are the majority of posters here. It's a nice dream, but essentially, that's the long and the short of it.

And let me cap that with F*CK DUBAI. I'm about to sound like a bigot because what I'm about to say is bigoted, but I'm sick to death of the middle east. I'm sick of seeing it on the news with a suicide bomber here and a car bombing there. I'm really sick with this whole "war on terrorism" horseshit, bring our people home, and I'm talking about from everywhere on earth we have a fukcing military base, and close those bases. I'm tired of seeing billionaires with towels on their heads surrounded by gold everywhere they go while espousing the evils of the "decadent Americans". When I look at pictures of Dubai, I think to myself firstly, I wonder where the money for all that came from? The oil we clamor for like idiots over here? Drug sales? Then I think, All Arabs hate our guts, why do they want us there? I just don't understand all this shit.

@Jazzman
The video is of John Stewart's Daily Show, and he is essentially making fun of the fact that the country is only 30+ years old and they are already 600Billion dollars in debt. Regardless of what they make every year in tourism, that's a much much bigger hole. The fact that it all comes from loans is irrelevant, as most of our debt comes from loans too, and were in debt to the tune of Twelve Trillion dollars. Imagine a loan that big being like a snowball, and to pay it off you roll it downhill hoping people will come pay to see it roll. In the meantime, it's picking up more debt all the way down until it explodes.

Disney should have made that in the US or some other European nation, not Dubai. Arabs could give a fukc about comic books, they care about oil and killing us.

Ignorant? Maybe. Could I care less? Nope. I loves me my country.
gtrman - 12/2/2009, 9:52 AM
DUBAI IS BANKRUPT LIKE CALIFORNIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
KillerOfSaints - 12/2/2009, 9:52 AM
@Shaman: Dubai was built as the ultimate vacation spot. The rules that apply to other Middle Eastern countries are overlooked there. They have some of the world's largest nightclubs, golf courses and resorts. Their port has more super yachts docked there than Morocco. Plus, there are miles of topless beaches :)

I was there in 2004. Trust me, it's a little bit of heaven.

@grtman: The thing is that this deal was made years before the Disney/Marvel merger. Regardless if Disney wants it in the US now, there's already a contract to develop it overseas. I would rather this be stateside, but I'll gladly take the trip wherever they build it.

I understand your point about the debt situation. Debt is debt, regardless the reason. But I think that accruing debt to build an entire city in the desert is a bit more understandable than the same about of debt to sustain one.
MultiPurposePoni - 12/2/2009, 9:52 AM
really in Dubai? i love that place but i thought they are suffering from debt..
sadmamba - 12/2/2009, 9:59 AM
@necrosage2005

thanks for the link but its not working

@gtrman

thanks for the info. actually comic books are international so Arabs do care about comic books too. i would like it to be in America but if they have a contract to do it overseas well we cant do anything about it. also this has nothing to do with Disney cause the deal was done way before Marvel joined Disney.

heres the article from Al Ahli Group(March 21 - 2007) website

http://www.ameinfo.com/114308.html
jazzman - 12/2/2009, 10:30 AM
what the ruler of Dubai wants, the ruler gets!!

now start building that damn theme park..now!!!
sadmamba - 12/2/2009, 10:31 AM
Since when is Spongebob a Marvel Superhero and why would they put it in a terrorist nation?
Number21 - 12/2/2009, 10:38 AM
"Arabs could give a fukc about comic books, they care about oil and killing us.

Ignorant? Maybe. Could I care less? Nope. I loves me my country."

Well, pretty much sums it up!

I will go to this if it gets made..if they build it...we will come....

RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 10:38 AM
Multi- I'll set foot on their soil and spend my money there WHEN their neighbours change their views through and through. I mean, i'd LOVE to go to Tibet but until China pulls outa there, i'll stay at home. But feel free to bring us many many pictures of their nude beaches LOL :P "Overlooked rules" doesn't sound comforting to me in the slightest.
Shaman - 12/2/2009, 10:38 AM
Hmmm...I just think this is strange. If you look at the fan base for Marvel in general, can they afford to go to Dubai? Granted, the MOVIES do well internationally, but would those movie goers fork over the money to go to the theme park? People do it for Disneyland...but it's freakin Disneyland!

I love the idea, and of course, I'd love for it to be in the US, but I just see financial failure written all over this. In 2007, the world wasn't in such a financial crap hole either.

Maybe I missed this, but why is this info just getting out anyways? I would have thought this was a pretty big deal two years ago...
ecksmanfan - 12/2/2009, 10:42 AM
I'm just sticking my neck out there for the block but.
Scru Dubi!!! that part of the world gets too much of our money!! take a drive through floridas residential areas or california's if you have the stones and I don't mean the hills or boca raton we need the work in this country and from what I've seen people are not being choosy with what they do!! sorry for poping off like an ass but just getting tired of seeing empty houses and empty malls and I don't mean people I mean borded up malls or better yet go to orlando disney and see all the elderly who lost there money who have become greeters for the rides!
faust74 - 12/2/2009, 10:42 AM
hahahahah... oh god.

I was just about to comment and say that I would definitely go to that. But now that I know WHERE it's gonna be, there isn't a snowflake's chance in hell that I am going.

I have heard that it's 'different" in Dubai before but I just don't care. I DO NOT travel anywhere in the third world and I never will.
That of course includes Mexico, South America and the Middle East

And it's not because I am ignorant, either. Actually it's because I am exactly the opposite of ignorant.
SixSixteen - 12/2/2009, 10:45 AM
Is Dubai the same place where they built that man-made island resort? That thing was cool!

Oh and the sooner this park is successful over there, the sooner we get one over here, but better. Disney ain't going to just lay down on this.
Betty - 12/2/2009, 10:46 AM
Shaman-- I just looked for some topless from Dubai, apparently they are crackin' down on the titties.

DarthMulder--lol!
Betty - 12/2/2009, 10:49 AM
Darth, just curious, why wouldn't you travel anywhere in the 3rd world? I spent 6 months travelling around South America and it was the most amazing experience of my life. No one robbed me, no one was rude to me, no one showed me an ill will. Iv had worse experiences in so called "advanced" countries.
RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 10:54 AM
ecksmanfan that was my thought...I mean Dubai is the playground for the super rich, not your average joe. The concept art looks a little dated, I mean a Nickelodeon area? I doubt Disney would allow universal to make a new park featuring characters they plan to yank the rights back as soon as universal's contract comes up.

I does look sweet though, but it seems like a pipe dream from before the merger.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 10:55 AM
Cool! I love how it looks! Where exactly are they gonna build this though?
Ozymandias - 12/2/2009, 10:57 AM
Why the hell are they building it in Dubai? Make it in the US for the love of god, and you will get tons of money. Ill never be able to go to this if they build it in Dubai. Thats halfway around the [frick]ing world!
Ozymandias - 12/2/2009, 11:07 AM
MULTI: I dont think they overlook all of the laws actually - a lesbian couple was recently sentenced to a month in prison and deported for kissing on a beach! I've also read in dozens of places that you're not allowed to hold hands or kiss in public because they're also both arrestable offences! Things you can easily avoid doing sure but I wouldnt be able to relax in a place like that!

Shaman: I get your points exactly! Its not somewhere I would go out of choice really - I actually wish this thing were being built in the US even though I live in the UK and it'd probably be more expensive, lol!
JoshW - 12/2/2009, 11:07 AM
terrorist nation?hmmm...you called Dubai a terrorist nation? how old are you? tsk tsk, how ignorant...
sadmamba - 12/2/2009, 11:11 AM
Yo I found this cool fan-made THOR poster. This article seems most active so I am posting it here.

Betty - 12/2/2009, 11:18 AM
I can't find the comment that says it's a terrorist nation...
however I stand by what I said about the playground for the super rich. The average cost for one night in a hotel is 500 bucks, plus it costs around 800 bucks for a round trip flight from boston. No way is that affordable.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 11:29 AM
@betty

thought someone posted that before but anyway cool poster!
sadmamba - 12/2/2009, 11:29 AM

sadmamba - 12/2/2009, 11:33 AM
did they? I never saw it, doh!
Betty - 12/2/2009, 11:35 AM
@joshw24

never heard about a lesbian couples. i know about two British couple arrested in Dubai over sex on the beach.

heres the article:

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/middleeast/dubai/2275123/British-couple-arrested-in-Dubai-over-sex-on-the-beach.html

@number 21

i agree with sadmamba how old are you? calling Dubai a terrorist nation. i wonder what will you say if the Theme Park was in certain part of Africa.
jazzman - 12/2/2009, 11:36 AM
@ Ror:

Because it seems very risky to me. I hear about people being kidnapped and killed all the time, and these are not spies or criminals. I have a buddy who ran a foot race in Morrocco and he came back with tales of Americans being targeted especially for being kidnapped, robbed, and beaten. He said that two runners got sick and and were not able to get medical treatment.
I have known people who got in deep poop from travelling in India and Mexico. I knew a dude that was in the Peace Corp. and when they sent him down to South America to work he had to grow beard, get a dark tan and pretend he was poor so nobody would jack him up. THAT guy also told stories of maniac guerilla's wanting to find an American to take hostage.

I am just not a big risk taker when it comes to travel. To me it's just not fun. When I go on vacation it's always with my wife. And the thought of something bad happeneing to her absolutely terrifies me. In fact, just talking about it makes me want to vomit really. lol yeah that's a BIG part of it right there.

I am just not into taking risks like that. And besides... why go somewhere where you have to worry about living through it. I MUCH prefer Western Europe, Italy, Scandanavia, China, Japan... I know for a FACT I can go to those places and not have to worry for Sarah's safety. But I just can't say the same for ANY PLACE in the third world. All that poverty and desparation and hatred for Americans could just swallow you up in a second, and the only person's fault it would be is mine for being there in the first place.

..... annnnnnddd.. I am almost reluctant to mention this because it might sound bad but a lot of times I feel terrible for the people. I was in Estonia once and saw a bunch of begging children asking for money at the train station. I gave them every dime I had. I couldn't help myself, but that didn't make me feel any better.

I hope that explains things adequately.

SixSixteen - 12/2/2009, 11:38 AM
@ Guradian: well ok then add "I can't afford it" to the list of reasons I won't go! LOL
SixSixteen - 12/2/2009, 11:43 AM
NERDGASM god i hope the world doesnt end before i get a chance to go to this theme park
Legendaryssj - 12/2/2009, 11:43 AM
So I guess everyone forgot that the US has Adventure Island at Universal Studios which contains; 3D interactive Spider-Man ride, Dr. Doom's Tower of Doom, and Hulk coaster, plus more like the big ass comic book store. Disney now owning the rights will more than likely add to this because now Marvel has the funding for it.

So don't fret fellow comic dorks, we don't have to go to Dubai, we will eventually have something similar, but until then it's Adventure Island for me.
Stumblin - 12/2/2009, 11:57 AM
yeah, but those rides will more than likely be repainted and renamed once their contract with marvel comes up for renegotiation.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 12:03 PM
@ Darth, totally understand dude. But trust me, the likes of India and SA are not as bad as you may have heard. Sure, shit happens, but you could get shot walking into a corner shop on your own street. I heard all of the horror stories before I went there too, and i was a bit nervous, but the people are generally lovely. Obviously there are certain places you don't go..like the Favelas in Rio..thats would be just looking for trouble(although I did go..drunk..and was lucky!) I guess I just believe that if some shit is going to find you, it will find you, no matter where you are. (within reason of course, Im not going to go wondering around Burma looking for a haircut). But I also get what you mean about the poor folks..but again, even thats probably not as bad as you expect.
RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 12:05 PM
I would hope Diseny is a part of making this park real. I just hope they put it somewhere in the middle of america, like Kanas maybe
Nightwing09 - 12/2/2009, 12:15 PM
I would love to work there!
SHHH - 12/2/2009, 12:32 PM
take that Dc take it and like it
thedarkknight666 - 12/2/2009, 12:49 PM
ThewhatGuardian, Universal still has the rights for the park until 2020 something. So yeah, the rename and all that wont happen for a very long time.
Stumblin - 12/2/2009, 1:09 PM
sounds great i hope they have some good x-men,and hulk, parks, and the spiderman looks tight. i dont know about the submersible rollercoaster but it sounds pretty cool hope it dont break down.
1chris2 - 12/2/2009, 1:11 PM
Dubai? Come on! Disney tear down California Adventure and open it there. I can guarantee you more people will visit the Marvel park then California Adventure!
hardcorefrokid - 12/2/2009, 1:12 PM
Ok so this in Dubai, I guess Iam ok with that, but what does Nickeoloden have to do with Marvel. or Iam i just seeing things.

Ok So Brother Shaman & Ror don't care to much for Islamic states I get it. But to correct Ror on the point "Arabs could give a fukc about comic books, they care about oil and killing us.

Ignorant? Maybe. Could I care less? Nope. I loves me my country." That is completely inacurrate. Arabs are Saudi in origin, but my point is they have comic characters as well. Stay tuned!!
Spock - 12/2/2009, 1:15 PM
Why couldn't they just add it to Disney World?

WTF

When am I ever gonna get a chance to go to Dubai
Fartman - 12/2/2009, 1:18 PM
i dont know if i like this. theme parks ar hardly worth there money now a days. especially if its gonna be that far away, its not gonna be worth paying to get there and paying to get in all so that you can get on like 5 rides the whole day. unless of course you wanna spend another hundred bucks on a speed pass. i dont know if ill ever get to go now :(
Torque - 12/2/2009, 1:29 PM
I just read on the AP that the dubai universal theme park has been scrapped due to the economic slump.

"the brakes also were slammed on hundreds of Dubai projects — from residential towers that stand half-finished to a desert Xanadu that included a Universal Studios theme park and a "city of wonders" with full-size replicas of the Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal and other famous sites."
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091202/ap_on_bi_ge/ml_dubai_tallest_tower

So if this was to be a part of that it looks to be dead.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 1:47 PM
Actually spock, i think that comment was from gtrman. Ror just copied it in his to reply to it ;P

thwhtGuardian- Glad to hear it.
Shaman - 12/2/2009, 1:52 PM
i could understand why theyre putting it in Dubai. It's basically the richest country in the world. seeing as how this park is gunna cost 1 billion dollars!
joob234 - 12/2/2009, 1:55 PM
I'm going
MrAnonymous - 12/2/2009, 1:57 PM

legder20 - 12/2/2009, 2:04 PM
Sounds fun.
Bandrews1 - 12/2/2009, 2:05 PM
@Darth
Just do wha i seen tons of americans trying to get a ride when i was backpacking through Europe, sew a Canadian flag on your jacket and backpack
CaptainCanada - 12/2/2009, 2:08 PM
Dubai is broke. They owe more money than we (USA) do. There are rich people there but the actual country has none.
TheGuillotine - 12/2/2009, 2:37 PM
@ Shaman Iam not holding it against anyone, just making a point since I seem to be the only Muslim on our site here thats All.
Spock - 12/2/2009, 2:56 PM
Cheers Shaman! ..watch those inverted comas Mr Spock;)..Im on your side!
RorMachine - 12/2/2009, 3:14 PM

joob234 - 12/2/2009, 3:15 PM
Looks sweet but...Dubai? Really? Well there goes my chance of ever gettin to see Magical Marvel World.
IrvineGray - 12/2/2009, 3:26 PM
This is a fantastic idea but I have a better location for it: Washington DC. Just level the whole town (while the politicians are still in all of the buildings) and build it there. It kills two birds with one stone. Then all the people of the world can come to the Marvel Comics theme park and live in peace and harmony forever:)
alten2345 - 12/2/2009, 4:38 PM
Wow. So they're really making that? In Dubai? Crazy.
Dr. Donald Draper - 12/2/2009, 4:38 PM
deffo going :D
FrankCastle1 - 12/2/2009, 6:20 PM
Is it just me or does the spiderman ride look similar to the ride they already have at universal ?
gothamknight611 - 12/2/2009, 7:10 PM
Ok this is jus retarded. somthing thats gonna draw so much attention and money, why would you put it so far away from the those that are the hard core comic fans and is gonna spend all their cash there. if it was me i would add 100 acres to disney world include a kids section called super hero city with the super hero squad. add over 200 jobs to california enconomy and with all of us suckers rushing to spend our money there california wont be in such debt and shouldnt be a leach to the rest of the country.
BrutalDuke - 12/2/2009, 7:32 PM
Meh I don't think it would be a part of Disney Land, it's smack dab in the middle of Anaheim so you really cant expand that park to much. However Disney World sits on 27,400 acres of land...and currently only uses half of that so that's prime space for another park of this magnitude.
thwhtGuardian - 12/2/2009, 7:51 PM
@Alten2345
Hear-hear brother! Amen!
gtrman - 12/2/2009, 8:35 PM
Hahahahahaha, this post is great. I agree with whoever said tear down adventureland and put it there. I've heard they're closing down adventureland after this season anyways, losing too much money and for a good reason cause that place sucks!
Dubai is a nightmare place to have it, I would go and love it but most of america wouldn't because we are ignorant people...but is it ignorant or just plain smart not spending that much money to visit a theme park? Shit i say build it in San Antonio. I live in Cali but that city is beautiful and there's plenty of land.

DisneyWorld in Orlando,FL originally have plans to have 12 parks built in the Orlando area, they have the 4 built now, Magic Kingdom, MGM, Animal Kingdom and Epcot. So hopefully one of the new parks will be Marvel themed. I like Universal Studios, Adventure Island for all the Marvel rides but other than that, the place sucks, they close early and it's too crowded and you have to pay for fastpass.
SuperPowered - 12/3/2009, 6:43 AM
I enjoyed my time at Adventure Island, it's packed but so is all amusement parks you can't get around that. Dueling Dragons was the shit!
Stumblin - 12/3/2009, 8:17 AM
It's not likely that they'll tear down anything in Disney Land, it's like a monument to Walt.

I too feel like Universal is a bit of a scam compared to Disney World you pay the same price ...except things like fast pass are free in Disney World...and the parks are open later.
thwhtGuardian - 12/3/2009, 8:56 AM
@ thwhtGuardian: thanks for that post. (sighs in relief)

No offense to those who have the money, or live closer to Dubai but wrapping my wallet around ol' hurricane-alley Florida will be a hell of a lot easier than going to the far side of the globe just to get my geek on.

Hopefully they'll drop it right dab next to Harry Potter World for a nice battle o' the nerds. Can you imagine if they built those two in synchronicity, selling park-hopper passes? I just dotted my jeans!

And yeah, no way they're building it in Anaheim (the Angelino laments). Disney already has plans for the rebuild on that crappy California Adventure, adding the mermaid & cars rides (in place of the 500 stores they have over there now). It would be way too expensive to buy out the neighborhoods surrounding the place, in order to build onto it. If anything, this will end up in Japan or Florida now that Dubai has taken the dump.
Coats - 12/3/2009, 1:19 PM
And cheers for the pics of the place MultiPurposePoni! Whatever ends up happening to this pipe dream, it's great to see the images!
Coats - 12/3/2009, 1:22 PM
Man it looks like a dream come true, everything. But like many have said, I have also been reading very bad things for Duai. I would love this to get off the ground, lets keep our fingers crossed.
CrashTest - 12/3/2009, 1:53 PM
Dubai ?!?
Are you kidding me ?!!?
I don't care if I'm the first to say so, or not..... I call LAME!!!
Why would you not build this in the states ?!
Someone has to have flubbed that info. This has got to be built in the states somewhere.

rawshark - 12/3/2009, 2:46 PM
I'm not quite sure if it will be as epic with everyone not speaking in english. I have always wanted to see that one hotel though.... I really hope that there was an error or something, cause I would really like it to be in the US... or at least in the UK
TheRandomMonger - 12/3/2009, 3:50 PM
A marvel theme park...in Dubai. I'll never see it and very few Americans that made these superhero's what they are will never see it. Talk about out sourcing! I live in florida right around the corner from Disney and Universal. The Marvel thing at Universal is in serious need of attention and I consider the whole set up pretty lame. Why they would agree to take such an awesome theme park concept and slam it outside America is beyond me. I don't know about the rest of you but, I'm one of those Americans that has to work to pay bills and doesn't exactly manage much travel time. Granted, if I went to Dubai it would probably be to check out more impressive things than another theme park...

Damn Marvel for this great travesty...
CyborgNinja - 12/3/2009, 11:39 PM
The funniest thing about this is that about 50% of comic book writers and artists are jewish. Jews are not allowed to enter Dubai.
WonderMoose - 12/7/2009, 1:56 AM
I dont think this guy is tellin the truth cause yh there is a marvel theme park but if u look at da photos it might as well be a nick(tv channel)theme park.

I MIGHT BE RONG BUT HEY ANY GUY MIGHT SAY THT
skmaster - 12/7/2009, 11:30 AM
THESE KINDS OF PROJECT NEVER PAN OUT. AS MUCH AS I LOVE IT IT WONT ´STAY OPEN A YEAR. CRAH And burn
MTURBO0069 - 2/1/2010, 12:09 AM
First off whoever is saying jews arnt allowed to enter dubai...ur very misinformed. Second i was reading earlier that universal is opening a theme park in dubai not true... The next theme park they are opening is in korea and its the biggest one yet!! I hate the fact that its ALL the way in dubai but hey at least its something!!! And if anything i blame disney for everything!!!! lol
