Anthony Mackie Thinks Ben Affleck Will Make A Good Batman

We've heard from pretty much everyone else, so why not hit the jump to find out what Captain America: TWS actor Anthony Mackie thinks about Ben Affleck as Batman in Zack Snyder's upcoming Batman/Superman film.

In an interview with EOnline, Mackie said

"I think it’s great. My favorite Batman was Michael Keaton because he made Batman like an everyday guy we can relate to. I feel like the last few [actors playing] Batman have been lost in trepidation that you really can’t relate to. So I feel like Ben Affleck—what makes him a star is he has that everyman quality. I feel like he is going to bring that back to Batman and make him cool again.”

Everyone seems to be liking Ben as Batman, Do you?

Batman not cool? Since when? I hope Affleck does a good job of the role.

I'd hate to read up on the backlash if he doesn't.

I wonder if in 2015 when BvS/WF/MOS2/Whatever they decide to call it comes out, we're gonna have a "Looking back to people who were cool with Ben Affleck being Batman" article like those "Rumors that turned out to be true and those who turned out to be bs" articles we have.

I agree with him though, my favorite Batman was Michael Keaton. I liked Bale in Batman begins because it showed a lost and fragile Bruce become batman but after that he wasn't intimidating to me anymore.

The Falcon makes a real good point, there. Kilmer and Bale were a little bit too distant. The audience couldn't connect as much. Of course Clooney was far too human, so you can go too far the other way. But Keaton found the perfect balance. We got a real reclusive, distant freak, but in a really relatable, humanistic, audience-friendly way. Maybe Affleck will be able to strike the same chord that Keaton did. Or at least an approximation of it.
Either way, it I decided I was Pro-Batfleck within 24 hours of the announcement and unless Affleck turns out to be the worst Batman ever, I don't think I'll change that stance.

I love all the comments. i just feel just as everyone here has said... We don't need a relate-able Batman. Have anyone here saw their parents murdered, vow vengeance on every criminal in their city, wear a crazy costume resembling a rat with wings, change their voice at night, and jump on roof tops. Let alone spend millions of dollars on bats to roam a cave you dug into and make all these gadgets to fight a mere man? No... I can not relate sorry.

And who is this Anthony again? Also, it's been like a month since the announcement of Ben Affleck as Batman and we're still getting posts about what someone here and there thinks about it?

Yeah, Batman's a complete mentalist, but he's a human being not an emo teen. So he should have some relatability. Also, these are summer event movies, not arthouse, not opera, it does kinda help to have a likeable co-protaganist.

Anthony Mackie shut your mouth until you sign on for A:AOU. Cause if not we will not see you until they (IF) make a CAP 3 movie.

No...just no,

Let the man voice his opinion, sheesh!

Can't wait for, Captain America: The Winter Soldier. I have a feeling that the Captain America trilogy (mark my words there will be one) will be the most epic solo superhero trilogy ever. I support Batfleck but... the movie will be like Man of Steel. Less than average. David Goyer will once again bring in no character development and we will have gotten once again just a plain, enjoyable DC movie. Meh... give me some excitement for this shared universe!!

Keaton wasn't an everyday guy. He was a recluse that nobody even knew what he looked like
Vicki Vale: Do you know where Bruce Wayne is? Which one of these guys is Bruce Wayne?
They even had to research his backstory.

Ok this guy a idiot saying bale wasn't relatable. Bale was the most relatable of all the batman and made batman cool again. Ben will do find but I don't care what this fool has to say.

Just goes to show how little Anthony Mackie knows about anything, Batman in particular.

Ben Afflecks huge head and bum-chin didn't look good in a Daredevil cowl and they will look even worse in a Batman one. He's never learned to stop standing hunched with his mouth half open during speech so his Batman and his Bruce Wayne will both look like street retards.

@knocturnalzen10, I'm pretty sure he's talking about the Bruce Wayne persona, who was much more likable in the Keaton's incarnation. Most of the unnatural characteristics you speak of describe Batman, which the average Gothamite doesn't associate with Bruce.

@batz11

"Why do movies, especially comic book movies have to be "grounded" or "relateable"? -- I want some fricken' gods, magic, mystery, advanced science...stuff I don't see everyday in my normal life...seems like most movie studios (except, um, Marvel ;) just don't get that...think a lot more people like myself enjoy the 'escapism' of fantastical and magical locations, characters, events..."

^ This guy gets it.

He's not an idiot for expressing his opinion Hero24..

Bale's Bruce came off like a bratty trust fund baby as he gets drunk and kicks his guests out shortly after insulting them and buys restaurants to allow his model girlfriends to swim in non-swimming areas. Much of rhe emotional journey that Baleman went thru was only known to his inner circle and us, the audience.

Keaton's Bruce came off more like the average Joe who just happened to win the biggest MegaMillions jackpot ever. He gives Knox a grant who was asking for it jokingly. He was much more personable overall.

Keaton'sBatman was a cartoon character. He hated playing Batman, and looked down on it all as silly and embarrassing.

^ Must be why he did it twice and was almost a 3rd time, because, he was trying to ruin the franchise from the inside out. :-P

Is Warner Bros. so out of touch that they can't get a single celebrity that actually knows anything about batman and isn't a known Afleck brown-noser? Batman isn't someone we're really supposed to relate to. He by his own definition is a symbol. He's embodies our aspirations of overcoming our limitation just as he has.

BTW Keton's Batman sucked. what kind of Idiot smiles when they're playing Batman.

I'm just waiting for an actor to finally be honest and say

"How the [frick] do I know how he'll do? Do I look like a movie industry psychic? Don't you think I'd be making a lot more money if I could make such a prediction?"

They should refer to these types of Q & A as "Smarmy Time" and drop balloons and confetti from the ceiling whenever it happens, so that we know it's time to stop paying attention.
