Smallville is over

So what’s to fill the void that after Clark goes off to Metropolis? Fans have had 10 years of foreplay, with no pay off, so we’re wondering, which superhero could fill Kal-El’s shoes on the TV screen; Wonder Woman or Batman? We’d love to see both, but we’re thinking that, with the ridiculously low budgets assigned to TV, Wonder Woman fighting mythical beasts might look like something out of a 1970s Sinbad movie. Much cheaper to move to Gotham and film a brooding teen learning his way into becoming the World’s Greatest Detective. But, how would they be envisioned? We’re giving it a shot.

Not that the studios listen to us but we laid out how we think these two shows should go if they ever decided to make them. Check it out at The Next Smallville: Batman or Wonder Woman?

Octopussy - 5/27/2011, 1:13 PM
Teen Titans.
Stumblin - 5/27/2011, 1:13 PM
Nothing because for the most part super hero TV shows blow. Stick to animation and we're good.
Octopussy - 5/27/2011, 1:13 PM
,,,or Legion of Super-Heroes.
Macksimus - 5/27/2011, 1:15 PM
Adventures of Bruce Wayne

...show his travels around the world as he developes his skills to become the Dark Knight.
ShadowMan - 5/27/2011, 1:16 PM
Green Arrow, it's not like we're gonna see a movie anytime soon.
ComicbookmovieF4Lfe - 5/27/2011, 1:16 PM
DC screwed it up, now i think its Marvels turn to hit the small screen. I would like to see maybe spiderman or captain america.
JatevinM - 5/27/2011, 1:19 PM
Either Wonder Woman, Supergirl, or The Flash.
Godzillafart - 5/27/2011, 1:20 PM
I story/character driven show about a young Bruce training to become Batman could be really great, and make a lot more sense than Smallville. Let's face it, with his powers, Superman is a ready made, and Smallville was silly. With Bruce there is a lot of necessary growth. It could actually be a good dramatic show, and the special effects budget would be very low, mainly just fight choreography.
Jonet - 5/27/2011, 1:21 PM
Do we really need another Smallville??
Optimus83 - 5/27/2011, 1:24 PM
I think that better choice is Batman, but Wonder Woman also would be nice if the series is much more true to the comic than it had the details of the pilot Internet

Bye
LordHuck - 5/27/2011, 1:26 PM
Neither please. If its anything like “Smallville” I wont be watching it. All smallville did was make a crappy elseworlds version of superman that was boring, lame, cheap, and confusing to the uninitiated. Now we have a pile of quasi superman fans who think that smallville is actually representative of the superman mythos.

It was a big ball if cold Ick.
x2SMONEY - 5/27/2011, 1:28 PM
A show about a young bruce would be cool but I would prefer a show about different stories set in Gotham. That'd be cool. Kinda like Gotham Central except also focusing on other stories, a lot about criminals. Kinda like Sin City style (By that I mean like crime stories from one city, not like the look and narrative) It'd be cool if instead of focusing on big special effects and action they could focus on great writing and a great plot, and get great writing talent from comic book writers to write an arc in the show. It'd be amazing
LMB10 - 5/27/2011, 1:29 PM
Hasn't DC already said their working on a live action 'Raven' (from Teen Titans I think) series?
JULEZ13 - 5/27/2011, 1:31 PM
I would prefer neither. But if I had to choose Batman would make the most sense. But i don't know how much it would last without him putting on the suit until the very end if they would go the Smallville route.

I do think it would be interesting to focus primarily on Bruce Wayne and his journey to becoming Batman. That hasn't really been emphasized on before so it would be cool.

I'm iffy about CB shows after what I saw happened to Smallville. I don't think I can suffer another heartbreak.
ClarkFarley2012 - 5/27/2011, 1:34 PM
Neither. DC/WB relies to heavily on "The Trinity". They need to invest more time in other characters that could spark interest like Booster Gold, Green Arrow, or Martian Manhunter. I don't think these characters are good enough to have a movie just yet, but if DONE CORRECTLY would make great t.v. shows.

Smudge - 5/27/2011, 1:34 PM
make a Batman series based on the 'Batman:year one'
MarkV - 5/27/2011, 1:37 PM
Tales from the Darkseid, LOL.

"I would prefer a show about different stories set in Gotham. That'd be cool. Kinda like Gotham Central except also focusing on other stories"

Interesting, you could make Batman a periphery charachter, maybe have him show up briefly once an episode.
reverendjonnynemo - 5/27/2011, 1:40 PM
Now that I've seen tape, I see why this flew as much as Smallvilles "Superman":

WTF's with Tin Man @ 2:12???
spectre88 - 5/27/2011, 1:42 PM
Similar to what MarkV said, I say keep it simple, make a show about the Gotham City Police Department. Batman and the villains can make cameo appearances.

On the same note I think a TV show on the Daily Bugle could be awesome as well. Peter Parker could be in it and make cameo appearances as Spider-Man.

I think for TV they should simple by telling good (maybe investigative) stories and not focus too much on special effects and action. Although a little action would be good once in awhile.
BIGBMH - 5/27/2011, 1:43 PM
Wonder Woman series? I don't think they're gonna try that again for a while.
MatchesMalone630 - 5/27/2011, 1:45 PM
How about none of these, we don't need another chick show to gay-ify anymore superheros. Enough is enough.
zerakis81 - 5/27/2011, 1:45 PM
Make a justice league show now!!!
Number1Wolverine - 5/27/2011, 1:46 PM
I think a Wonder Woman animated cartoon would work, and a Batman TV series. So we can finally see other villains like Killer Croc.
soberchimera - 5/27/2011, 1:47 PM
Hellblazer nuff said.
Illuminatus - 5/27/2011, 1:48 PM
Sentry should get a TV show.
Superman4 - 5/27/2011, 1:48 PM
Why not stear away from the really popular ones, I think Captain Marvel would be good. Sandman (Wesley Dods) would also be great! They can take Smallville's place but they shouldn't be so awful
revloveR - 5/27/2011, 1:49 PM
Martian Manhunter.
revloveR - 5/27/2011, 1:49 PM
@ illuminatus, i think he'd be better suited for an "Avengers" sequel.
Superman4 - 5/27/2011, 1:49 PM
Another Flash tv series would be awesome
SaintCrow - 5/27/2011, 1:50 PM
batman, do the first season where he is traveling the world, getting training. be perfect opportunity for many chameos.
Superman4 - 5/27/2011, 1:50 PM
or just get Justin Hartley to do a Green Arrow tv show
BlackSands - 5/27/2011, 1:54 PM
I'd say Batman... aka Bruce Wayne.

@Intruder: What most people meant was that it was never fully explored in greater detail. The one in Batman Begins was a condensed version and due to the stupidity of movie magic; he learned to be a "master fighter" in a short amount of time - which is stupid and unrealistic as all hell - he NEVER learned to become a detective AT ALL. One of the drives for him on his journey was to figure out how "evil" can take root, etc etc... and where the hell was that in the movie? One of the few redeeming things about Burton's first Batman film was that it mentioned and showed a little of Bruce/Bat's side as a detective and problem solver in cracking Joker's bioweapon. One of my main beefs in Nolan's Batman was that he rarely had to think outside of being a thug in a costume most of the time and thanks to Lucius Fox, he relied too much on his gadgets more often than not. He didn't even crack Scarecrow's fear toxin and let Lucius do all the work in that area. And I doubt Lucius wasn't that much of an idiot to figure out who was behind the mask the moment he saw the news broadcast of the tumbler going on a rampage in Gotham's streets, much less the request for the fear toxin antidote.

Back in the comic books, he's already started his mythic journey basically from childhood - from dealing with the grief of his parents murder to becoming the obsessive-compulsive Batfreak we know he is today. A TV series could expand on those mythos rather than the snippets an inaccurate Batman Begins movie origin laid out.... never once did RA's refer to him as a "detective" or even provide the training for him to be one when he was training him to be his supposed heir.

To be fair, if this is CW's next project, they can just as much screw it up as they did for Smallville.... but since Bruce's past origins can take many forms and isn't clearly established, even a network like CW can't completely mess it up any more than what they did to Superman's supposedly established background.
cyclopstb - 5/27/2011, 1:58 PM
Wonder Woman.
comixrats - 5/27/2011, 2:06 PM
I'd love to see Marvel get in on the action. They could do a First Class-style show. Begin just like the X-Men comic, with Jean showing up join the X-Men, call it Graymalkin Lane.
StrangerX - 5/27/2011, 2:09 PM
a Secret Six show would be awesome
spideyboy - 5/27/2011, 2:11 PM
The Flash, please!!!! OR Teen Titans
BlackSands - 5/27/2011, 2:12 PM
@Intruder... sorry about that dude, had too much caffeine today. :) Besides, only a 4th of that reply was to you and the rest was my way of explaining it to everyone else should they come up with a stupid excuse the way we know some blind numbnut fanboys/girls who worship Nolan's TDK and haven't done their research into the whole Batman mythology that they wouldn't think of.

@Illuminatus: In answer to your fear about another Smallville crapfest: Though honestly, "Gotham" might really make for an interesting show - and require less of the stupid antics CW made with Smallville in terms of super powers and whatnot... everything can be "storied" out on the human condition ala CSI style with a dash of noirish elements. No super powers and just good old human drama, etc. -and best yet, there's no way in hell they can make it look like a watered-down Twilight angst-fest show.
NextHero08 - 5/27/2011, 2:20 PM
10 years and no pay off, please dude. Why don't you put on the suit you've seen a million times and move on. and a Marvel tv show would be a waste of time because most of their characters are very FX dependent and if you people had issues with Smallville's FX, your only settin urselves up for failure wit Marvel. Your picky so learn to live wit what is. I'll be waitin to see how Hulk works out.
JayTopStix - 5/27/2011, 2:22 PM
They should do Batman so all the (superman haters) fanboys get pissed. LOL
AlSimmons - 5/27/2011, 2:23 PM
Batman. He's more practical to work with from a production standpoint, and I won't have to deal with "who's my lover this week" drama since Bruce doesn't love anybody.
BlackSands - 5/27/2011, 2:29 PM
@NextHero08: actually there are a few Marvel characters that I can think of that can make a good transition to TV-dom if treated well. The new Hulk tv series would be ok as long as they don't get too silly and follow the theme/formula Bill Bixby did for his Hulk show in season 1.

Heck, I wouldn't mind a Wolverine TV series as a "global wanderer" in search for his past - it could work ala X-Files feel if need be with a dash of espionage. As far as effects go for a Wolverine show - it's just the hair and the claws - with minimal CGI for the healing factor. As a matter of fact, most stunts can be pretty much practical it they adapt a "Human Target" feel to it.
GUNSMITH - 5/27/2011, 2:32 PM
HOW ABOUT SOMETHING THAT STICKS TO SOURCE MATERIAL CLOSER. STOP BUTT RAPING MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS AND JUMPING ON THE TWIGHLIGHT BANDWAGON OF TEEN ANGST AND LOVE TRIANGLES AND TAKING TOO MANY FRIGG'N LIBERTIES.
BlackSands - 5/27/2011, 2:32 PM
@AlSimmons... LOL at your statement: ""who's my lover this week" drama since Bruce doesn't love anybody".

Bruce Wayne cultivated a Playboy persona in the course of his career - he may not love anybody due to the fact that he never lets anyone get too close, but he sure as hell got a lot of tail whether he wanted it or not... and the rest of it was on purpose to hide the fact a playboy has no time to be a vigilante if he has all those girls to "satisfy". And I don't believe he's that much of a douche as to be uncaring - he just beats himself up more often than not with his Obsessive-compulsive attitude in regards to his "mission" - ergo, he's his own worst enemy when it comes to romancing the fairer sex.

@GUNSMITH: agreed.
BatmanDTW - 5/27/2011, 2:37 PM
the flash needs a show. or the green arrow.
BatmanDTW - 5/27/2011, 2:38 PM
or a wonder woman cooking show. that'd be realistic AND gritty.
nuck82 - 5/27/2011, 2:45 PM
if they did a batman one, dc fans would go ape shit lol
marvel72 - 5/27/2011, 2:54 PM
lets make a smallville version of batman, but what can we expect.

-the show would be called "gotham" of course.
-it'll probably be set entirely during the day.
-wouldn't wear the iconic costume for at least ten years.
-would battle all his greatest foes, before even becoming batman
-would have a terrible creative team.
kimotashazam - 5/27/2011, 2:57 PM
There's no way Batman will happen so long as it might effect the box office of Nolan's films....
ACira - 5/27/2011, 2:58 PM
Spin off of Smallville called Supergirl starring Laura Vandervoort (she's free since V was cancelled) and also Erica Durance as Lois. Story doesn't matter, just have them on screen for 45 minutes per episode, 22 episodes per season.
