Marvel and DC Talk Movies at Emerald Comic-Con

All Best Sellers Stuff
Some very cool animation news as well
Both Marvel and DC both held panels at this year's Emerald Comic-Con in Seattle, Washington. While the primary focus was on the core source of comic books, they did touch base on a few film and animation nuggets.

Many thanks to Pop Culture Zoo for the roundups:

Geoff Johns said there is a very, very good chance in response to the possibility of a Green Lantern animated series.

A Kid Flash series is still being planned.

The next fan wanted to know the movies’ effect on the comics directions and vice versa? The panel agreed that DC is affecting Hollywood, an example being that Johns is heavily involved in Green Lantern film. As part of his new job Johns is making sure DC comics lead the charge. Staying with the DC movies, (Ian) Sattler revealed that Mastadon is doing the score for the Jonah Hex film.

Another fan wanted to know if we would see more of JSA in other media? Johns responded by revealing that the Justice Society will reappear in Smallville towards the end of the season.

Although, not film related I thought this was very telling of the relationship between the big 2:

Asked about any future Marvel/DC crossovers, Sattler asked the fan why he would want any before saying bluntly that DC is not interested in doing anything with Marvel right now.

Marvel didn't really touch on CBM's as much but Joe Quesada did touch on the recent Disney/Marvel merger.

Quesada was very quick to say that from all indications, Marvel will continue to run as it has always run. They now have the ability to use the power of Disney, but the books and movies will be as they have been. Following that up, the price of books will not go down.

Of course they had to get their barb in against DC as they were rounding up the panel discussion:

It was at this point that the panel revealed they were leaving nasty notes to the DC folks in the panel that was scheduled next.

xman - 3/14/2010, 3:18 AM
Haha, good 'ol Marvel. And besides, y wud Marvel do anything with DC? Seriously, the only good that has come from a crossover, is Nightclaw
Shocker - 3/14/2010, 4:34 AM
I'm a life long DC guy(even though a friend has been getting me into Marvel lately) but I have to say so far on the movie side of things Marvel has DC by a landslide right now. I am looking foward to seeing how Ryan Reynolds handles being Hal Jordan very much but think his proformence is going to make the Green Lantern movie a bigger bomb then the Superman Returns. when it comes to animation though I would much rather see a DC then Marvel. don't get me wrong the Marvel movies are awesome but DC stay a little truer imo. as far as a DC Marvel team up, I don't know why any comic book fan would want to see that AGAIN! hell the first time was way more then eoungh for me. I mean I can think of at least 2 times they teamed up and nothing even half way decent came out of it. and if you by some stange act of god DID like anything that came from the colabarations you really should be ashamed of yourself and stop calling yourse;f a comic book fan right now, you have dishonnored us all
johan02 - 3/14/2010, 5:01 AM
@johan02: don't lie... you're Supermike reincarnated, aren't you?
IronClad - 3/14/2010, 5:29 AM
supermike would have just trashed EVERYTHING, I only told those that needed to be told WHAT they needed to be told. its the story of my life, I seem to be the only person who ACTUALLY calls it how it is, NOT just how I see it. thats the thing no one ever seems to get, I don't say things because its just what I think I say things that are truth but no one else wants to see past there own opinons
johan02 - 3/14/2010, 6:02 AM
@ johan

riiiigghhhhhhtt...

its pretty funny how you call your opinions "the truth". but everyone elses opinions are just that, opinions. lol wow
CorndogBurglar - 3/14/2010, 6:40 AM
Cant say I'm too bothered about not having a DC/Marvel crossover...I guess if I read more DC and was more familiar with the characters I'd feel differently but I just dont like any of them apart from Batman, lol! :P

It's a pity that the prices wont be coming down. I live in the UK but $3.99 (£2.65 here) is a steep price for a comic book. When I pay $4.99 (£3.00) for something packed full of content like Amazing Spider-Man #600 though, that's different and worth every penny. They need to balance it out a little better IMO so you get your money's worth.

JoshW - 3/14/2010, 6:52 AM
I love how Marvel always talks trash to DC
jusme6 - 3/14/2010, 7:27 AM
Although I don't care much for the comic book crossovers between Marvel/DC, a live action movie would be amazing. I wouldn't give a crap about plot I'd just want to see Hulk and Superman duke it out!!
Ryden - 3/14/2010, 7:28 AM
Hal Jordan and Wally West are having their own shows? Sounds freaking cool!
No crossovers? :(--}:(--->:O
NightAvenger - 3/14/2010, 7:34 AM
crossovers between companies...the last one was blehh...and im a huge fan of a large portion of marvel and dc books...that crossover was like a 1990 penthouse...cool for a day and jizz...but let's move on...if it never happens again, no probs:P

@nightavenger...that alex ross buckycap design is fukkin amazing and id love to see that on film...

as for kid flash series....looks like dc's version of iron man anime adventures....younglings...
but a GL animated would be soooo rocking....there are so many lanterns, villains, sectors....earth lanterns, guardians, manhunters, and other dc cameos and plots to deal with...that would be immaculate...parallax, ion, sinestro....mmm....such a frickin kickass series would be jizz for us fanboys....geoff johns would rock as a scribe on this as he's MR DC AND MR GREEN LANTERN...
and more JSA this season is frickin smallville jizzzzzzzzz
Anil Rickly - 3/14/2010, 9:37 AM
I'm thinking, IF WARNER BROS got the rights to a MARVEL character or two, they could do a crossover movie!!!

Hell, they even have BLADE and stuff at NEW LINE already right?

Would be cool!
LEEE777 - 3/14/2010, 9:38 AM
maybe an animated DC/Marvel movie would be cool? haha
eleven11 - 3/14/2010, 9:57 AM
oh lol i guess it is xman
AvengingAngel1022 - 3/14/2010, 11:34 AM
yeah like the hulk vs. the man of steel now that would be a kick ass dc/marvel universe
Marvel Rules - 3/14/2010, 11:49 AM
I would like to see that too.
Superman vs. Hulk
Green Latnern vs. Iron Man
Batman vs. Captain America
Captain Marvel vs. Thor
Wonder Woman vs. War Machine
Flash vs. Spiderman

rsalas - 3/14/2010, 12:10 PM
ok,if its just MY opinoin, tell one even half way decent thing to EVER come out of a Marverl DC crossover. just ONE!! and I'm not even asking for soemthing good all you have to do is find on thing thats HALF WAY decent!!
now, in MY personal opinoin I think the "super soldier" amalgem character was exceptable. I'm not saying I would go out and buy a bi-monthly of him but THAT is my opinoin.
I'm not trying to be cocky or anything of the sort, just objective
johan02 - 3/14/2010, 12:13 PM

Cool News! GL Animated series and Kid Flash. I dig it. Geoff Johns involved in the Live Action Movie also very cool.

I really want to see a JL/Avengers animated movie, but that's not likely to happen now
SPACEHERO55 - 3/14/2010, 12:18 PM
I would have to say D.C. has the best comics. I can name some off the topp of my head like the dark knight returns, red son, kingdom come, long halloween, hush, absolute power, sinestro wars, blackest night, infinite crisis and identity crisis i can go on but I cant really come up with any marvel ones that i can remember except for civil war and secret invasion, Ultimates 1 & 2, planet hulk was okay. but even if you lined up each's top ten marvels cant compare to d.c.'s
rsalas - 3/14/2010, 12:20 PM
In responce to this lovely little tibit

"Another fan wanted to know if we would see more of JSA in other media? Johns responded by revealing that the Justice Society will reappear in Smallville towards the end of the season."

NOW i can pat myself on the back. (pat pat) I called it again. Told ya this was gonna happen!! the JSA will be teaming up with the JLA to kick Zod's army's ass now that they are getting their powers. I predicted the epic battle at seasons end and looks like Im right on this one.

Too to see the head honchos on Smallville are listening to me and taking my advise :)

brianj22 - 3/14/2010, 12:28 PM
In responce to the other great news mentioned above

"Geoff Johns said there is a very, very good chance in response to the possibility of a Green Lantern animated series."

Pretty fair to say that the responce to Green Lantern First Flight was well recieved, especially after it was aired on The Cartoon Network not too long ago. Great news for GL fans.

"A Kid Flash series is still being planned."

OK, are they talking live action or animated?

"The next fan wanted to know the movies’ effect on the comics directions and vice versa? The panel agreed that DC is affecting Hollywood, an example being that Johns is heavily involved in Green Lantern film."

What they are really saying here is the creativity level in hollywood sucks and they are finally realizing that if your going to do a comic book movie, well, here is a fricken novel idea, have the people who actually write the stories for them do the actual writing for the live action stuff. That way its done right and isnt f"ed up by some fanboy who works for the studio.

brianj22 - 3/14/2010, 12:34 PM
Hey guys, if you have a few minutes to waste, check out the reviews, or better yet, click on the pic ;)

Shaman - 3/14/2010, 1:00 PM
Hey guys, I think the mentioned "Kid Flash Series" might be the planned ongoing that was supposedly cancelled.
@johan: Are you sayin JLA/Avengers was bad?? That was [frick]in awesome! Marvel vs. DC, however was indeed crap.
As a DC fan, all this news to me means good things ahead!
OmegaBlack13 - 3/14/2010, 2:45 PM
ok, the JLA Avengers thing was ok, it was cool seeing cap and supes going at it and all that but the story was really weak
johan02 - 3/14/2010, 3:11 PM
Totally off subject..been reading Batman:the widening gyre(which is really good btw) and want to get into a reg series.
Detective?
Batman?
Batman and Robin?
Any sug which one?
Would be much appreciated
JonSolo - 3/14/2010, 3:31 PM
I recommend Batman & Robin. Grant Morrison is writing it and you can't go wrong with him.
rsalas - 3/14/2010, 3:46 PM
thanks rsalas.
Should i get into rip and battle for the cowl first or just go straight into B&R?
JonSolo - 3/14/2010, 4:19 PM
Yeah read R.I.P. and Battle for the Cowl first. You'll appreciate and understand Batman and Robin a bit more. Enjoy JonSolo.
rsalas - 3/14/2010, 6:32 PM
It helps, but BFtC is unnecessary and RIP is kinda relevant.
OmegaBlack13 - 3/14/2010, 6:33 PM
i love how all these marvel fans are too overconfident

marvel sucks,

cant wait for joe johnson to wreck capt america like the wolfman

cant wait for this new 3d spiderman to cater to the younger tween audiences. they should have kept raimi

cant wait for the avengers to not live up too expectations

its not an easy feat to make a movie with lots of characters in it like spider3 and xmen movies

just because its the avengers doesnt make it good lol
plenty of chances to f*** it up
nolan will deliver again with batman and superman and it will be much larger than thor or iron man 2.
they will do good for marvel but not to the heights of what dc can do
dc has made mistakes but they are going to rectify all of them now! keep the faith make mine DC
looking forward to the FLASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
npatil - 3/14/2010, 7:49 PM
marvels track record aint that great either

electra
daredevil
fantastic four both of them
spiderman 3
both punisher movies
xmen 1 and 3
origins
ang lee hulk
blade 3
my prediction: avengers will be leaked onto the net before it comes out.

npatil - 3/14/2010, 7:52 PM
DARKSEID VS GALACTUS.
OSCURO - 3/19/2010, 4:09 PM
I have every crossover issue between Marvel and DC they dont have to do any crossovers for awhile Darkseid and Galactus was awesome Avengers vs Justice League was also great i hope that someday they start having crossover movies:D
Superman1792 - 5/31/2010, 7:09 PM
personally, depending on how its made it would be sweet, only if they do it like the civil war and infinit crisis series, if they could make it to where dc heros and villians fight marvel heros and villians while at the same time dc is fighting dc and marvel is fighting marvel, some what like a free for all with some willing to work to gether while others not, it would be the best thing made!!!!!! think outside the box people, it could be a novel or even a ANIME!!!!!!
