Last week, Slash Film broke the news that there will be a six minute The Dark Knight Rises prologue in front of IMAX screenings for Brad Bird-directed film Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol, which will play in IMAX a week earlier before it hits everywhere on December 21. Now AMC Theatres confirms this story plus they offer an update:

"AMC Theatres can confirm that this footage will be shown in front of Ghost Protocol on December 16th. (Ghost Protocol will release in IMAX five days before its general release on the 21st of December.) However...The six minute Dark Knight Rises prologue footage will only be shown on the higher resolution 70mm IMAX screens. Not the digital IMAX screens."

There you go. You will be able to see that prologue only on 70mm IMAX screens.

Starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Morgan Freeman, The Dark Knight Rises is set to hit theatres on July 20, 2012!

Warner Bros. Pictures’ and Legendary Pictures’ “The Dark Knight Rises” is the epic conclusion to filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s Batman trilogy. The screenplay is written by Christopher Nolan and Jonathan Nolan, story by Christopher Nolan & David S. Goyer. The film is produced by Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Charles Roven, who previously teamed on “Batman Begins” and the record-breaking blockbuster “The Dark Knight.” The executive producers are Benjamin Melniker, Michael E. Uslan, Kevin De La Noy and Thomas Tull, with Jordan Goldberg serving as co-producer. The film is based upon characters appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. Batman was created by Bob Kane.

MARVELPSYCHO79 - 10/24/2011, 6:28 PM
I guess I have to go see Mission Impossible now because of this news.I wasn't planning on seeing it in theaters even though I ran to the theaters to the last two.I am hyped for TDKR and The Avengers next year. But I think Avengers is going to kick major ass out of the bunch.
SpiderManofHouseStark - 10/24/2011, 6:29 PM

THABATMAN - 10/24/2011, 6:30 PM
Hmmmm I wonder if the 2nd trailer will be on the standard release. Thats how it was with I am Legend and The Dark Knight.. Oh how I remember that day.

@MovieMann
some theaters have at least one Imax theater. best thing you can do is look online at theaters near you
BooYah - 10/24/2011, 6:34 PM
I didn't even know there was 2 different types of IMAX theater.
THABATMAN - 10/24/2011, 6:37 PM

headlopper - 10/24/2011, 7:21 PM
I am not torturing myself through 2 hours of Tom Cruise for this teaser.
It'll be on youtube the next day free!
NeoBaggins - 10/24/2011, 7:22 PM
They should release a full trailer between now and then. I'll watch the prologue online like the last one.

NextHero08 - 10/24/2011, 7:27 PM
Now thats a reason to go see a movie. We get to learn about what the film is about, why DC rules. Marvel---CRASH, BAM, BOOM! (Insert Joke) BLAH, BOOMAH! (Insert used footage) The Avengers......coming soon. So interesting.
Godzillafart - 10/24/2011, 7:30 PM
Have to say that my excitement about what DC is going to do with Batman after this movie is much greater than my excitement for this movie.

Seeing what a great actor Bale can be in The Fighter makes me think he should stop raping one of my favorite characters and go make good movies.
Supes17 - 10/24/2011, 7:30 PM
Looks like Batman's always where the action is!

Supes17 - 10/24/2011, 7:31 PM
Yeah I'm sure they'll release the regular trailer on regular theaters. They wouldn't let December pass without at least one theatrical trailer. It should be released around the same time as the prologue, just like with TDK
95 - 10/24/2011, 7:32 PM
DECEMBER 16, 2011 12:01 AM @ BRENDEN THEATRES' IMAX @ PALMS CASINO HOTEL LAS VEGAS, BABY!!! WHOO!!!
croniccris - 10/24/2011, 7:35 PM
dang i gotta go to the cinerama to see it....and that place is always packed....fml
headlopper - 10/24/2011, 7:39 PM
I wonder how much Cruise paid Warner's for the opportunity to feature TDKR during his 'thing'. They're not the same studios. He's just using the hype about the teaser to get people to go see his movie. This guy disgusts me.
95 - 10/24/2011, 7:39 PM
Or not. It's a digital projector. [frick] you Brenden Theatres!
chuckg313 - 10/24/2011, 7:44 PM
Im going
EditNinja - 10/24/2011, 8:14 PM
Let's hope it's released online, or just show me the bootlegs!
OptimusPrimeTime - 10/24/2011, 8:26 PM
"There you go. You will be able to see that prologue only on 70mm IMAX screens."..........and online 3 hours after the screening!

Otisburg - 10/24/2011, 8:36 PM
TDKR 6 minute prologue = AVENGERS hype panic!!
Otisburg - 10/24/2011, 8:37 PM
and desperation.
Alexandre - 10/24/2011, 8:52 PM
so all this time ive been paying alot of money to see a film in imax at my local theater and it wasn't even playing real imax film it was digital?? this some bulls**t
ComicsCommando - 10/24/2011, 9:11 PM
What do people have against Mission Impossible" Ghost Protocol? The third one which was directed by J.J. Abrams was intense and had a great story. This one's directed by Brad Bird, in my opinion this man can do no wrong when it comes to movie making.
ComicsCommando - 10/24/2011, 9:12 PM
*Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol
MrEPCOT - 10/24/2011, 9:13 PM
As a rule of thumb, if an IMAX theater has been built, or especially "added" to something like an AMC multiplex, within the past 5-6 years or so, it will be digital.

And LOL at the guy suggesting that this is some kind of desperate move against The Avengers... so it has to be a complete coincidence that they did this before for the previous film that happened to make a shitload of money.
SHHH - 10/24/2011, 9:13 PM
Intuder Just Don't Call People Fags And Queers You'll Be Straight ;) Bring On Nolans Prolouge It Better Be Good....
PapaMidnight - 10/24/2011, 9:18 PM
@Intruder, stop whining and enjoy the news as everyone else! lol
NeoBaggins - 10/24/2011, 9:24 PM
@Otisburg So, the 6 minute prologue is a "desperation" move brought on by fear of the Avengers? Also, milk. They say warm milk will help you sleep better at night too.
SHHH - 10/24/2011, 9:28 PM
Just Playin Just Like You Do....:)
SHHH - 10/24/2011, 9:31 PM
