The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield. Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Although their goal lies to the East and the wastelands of the Lonely Mountain first they must escape the goblin tunnels, where Bilbo meets the creature that will change his life forever…Gollum. Here, alone with Gollum, on the shores of an underground lake, the unassuming Bilbo Baggins not only discovers depths of guile and courage that surprise even him, he also gains possession of Gollum’s “precious” ring that holds unexpected and useful qualities … A simple, gold ring that is tied to the fate of all Middle-earth in ways Bilbo cannot begin to know.

Poster is cool, trailer is meh. Really need to rewatch the trilogy though as that would probably mean I'd feel a fair bit different in terms of excitement. Can't stand Martin Freeman either way.

Mk616 - 12/20/2011, 7:21 PM
I hope this is a FUN movie, because the book is fun. The Hobbit is very different from the LOTR. Its a fairy tale thats very lite while the sequels are about war. So I wish for a lot of signing and slapstick humor and not so many easter eggs for the first movies.
GreendaleHumanBeing - 12/20/2011, 7:22 PM

Can not wait to see Smaug! These books/movies made my junior high years.
Ranger14 - 12/20/2011, 7:23 PM
Having Gollum come in at the end gave me a few chills when he first said... "Baggins"?

I am looking forward to this film more than any other over the next couple years. Even the Avengers.
MikeHawk - 12/20/2011, 7:23 PM

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM PETER JACKSON!!!!!
Bodwulf - 12/20/2011, 7:31 PM
So far it seems if you like the books or the Lord of the Rings and enjoy the characters the trailer is awesome. If you enjoy 'splosions it was a miss.
Super12 - 12/20/2011, 7:32 PM
I can die a happy man now....
SCURVYDOG619 - 12/20/2011, 7:32 PM
Very Light? The Battle of Five Armies is NOT light at all. Can't wait to see how nuts that is going to be on a big screen. Gollum at the end of the preview was perfect. The dwarven singing reminded me of 13th Warrior,in a good way.Sold!
AsianVersionOfET - 12/20/2011, 7:33 PM
Didn't love the trailer. But I'm still excited!
batmanrises - 12/20/2011, 7:33 PM
JIZZ....
squirt - 12/20/2011, 7:34 PM
not as much excitement in the hobbit as compared to lotr. it was a lighthearted tale more geared towards younger readers. it had good adult undertones but not nearly as dark as lotr. read the book a hundred times at least. pj must be adding in a lot of extra stuff to get 2 full length movies out of it.
batmanrises - 12/20/2011, 7:34 PM
And Martin Freeman looks like a perfect young Bilbo.

Peter Jackson FTW!
comicoverlord - 12/20/2011, 7:35 PM
I think it looks great! And Del Torro still got a writing credit. Although for some of the darker imagery I would have liked to have seen what he would have come up with. Particularly with Smaug.
squirt - 12/20/2011, 7:35 PM
2 things i cant wait for, 1) spiders of mirkwood, and 2) SMAUG
ckal - 12/20/2011, 7:36 PM
Looks so great. In 6 months I know we will have an action packed trailer, its still so early on in the process!

sansClaymore- Yeah I wonder. I'm sure PJ will add the Dol Goldur storyline as a pretty important piece to the movies. It will be a big missed opportunity if he doesn't, even though that part wasn't visited at all in the book, and barely talked about.

FatsMcLeish- I do agree a bit with you in the fact that the dwarves look a bit too polished and 'clean.' But we have also presumably only seen them before going on their adventure, I'm sure they will become much more gritty looking as the movie progresses. The movie must also differ from the book a bit in the fact that the audience must be able to tell the dwarves apart, so I understand why PJ made them noticeably different. In the book, all the dwarves are described as having long beards and relatively similar looking IIRC.
brewtownpsych - 12/20/2011, 7:36 PM
phantom menace?
GreendaleHumanBeing - 12/20/2011, 7:37 PM
I literally would have came at first sight of either Smaug or the Battle of Five Armies. None the less super stoked. The troll scene is going to be awesome! Great day for this Tolkein nerd. Bought myself a new copy of the Silmarillion for Christmas this year.
soberchimera - 12/20/2011, 7:38 PM
ABSOLUTELY EPIC!!!
