The Dark Knight Rises was always going to be a huge hit domestically. But the big question was, can the film top The Dark Knight's international gross of $468 million? The answer is yes, as the Christopher Nolan-directed films passed the $400 million mark today, and it's currently on $407.2 million, according to Screen Daily.

The Dark Knight Rises will probably pass $1 billion worldwide (or it will come very close to that number), but it all depends on how much will it make in China. There is only one catch... The words is, that it will open against The Amazing Spider-Man on the same day in China (August 27th). Both films will make money for sure, but we'll see how much exactly. China is one of the biggest international markets, so the gross should be solid. Stay tuned for more box office updates.

Starring Christian Bale, Anne Hathaway, Tom Hardy, Michael Caine, Gary Oldman, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Marion Cotillard and Morgan Freeman, The Dark Knight Rises is now in theatres.

Spidey will dominate Chinese markets, you have no idea how huge Spider-Man is in foreign markets, especially Asians.
iMVuze - 8/10/2012, 6:57 AM
Where is your link to your 5 star review? I mean, you did post an article about the box office.
Nomis1800 - 8/10/2012, 6:59 AM
It will gross $1 billion worldwide for sure.
Asterisk - 8/10/2012, 7:01 AM
I hope it hits 1 billion soon.
PJ - 8/10/2012, 7:03 AM
It will hit one billion soon! Prove all Marvelites wrong!
Nubase - 8/10/2012, 7:03 AM
@TheGoddamnDeadpool

l have friends in shanghai and hong kong as l worked there for a year and believe me the only movie china and the other asian markets are waiting for is TDKR but spidey will do well also.

In the end tdkr is will hit a billion but that debate is so boring now, l saw the movie and it was brilliant, a true epic ending to the story.
RorMachine - 8/10/2012, 7:03 AM
I'd love it to, but really not sure it will now. This week and next you will see a steady decline, it's inevitable.
Intothepoop - 8/10/2012, 7:05 AM
really sucks that 2 more people brought weapons to a TDKR showing here in the states.
TheDetectiveComicRises - 8/10/2012, 7:06 AM
Let's go TDKR!
GoILL - 8/10/2012, 7:09 AM
Not bad, not to concerned if it does or doesn't make a billion.
WolvieCBM - 8/10/2012, 7:09 AM
Yes, Asia loves Spidey. China is 3D-crazy right now. But, they also really like Nolan's films. TDK was never released there, but Inception made like $80 million. It was huge.
Ceejay - 8/10/2012, 7:14 AM
Couldn't care less if it makes 1 billion, the movie is outstanding regardless. Since when does making a billion become a necessity?
FilmsFan - 8/10/2012, 7:18 AM
@WolvieCBM Exactly!!
INCEPTION earned 80 Million$ in china 2 years ago & its an Original & Complex SciFi film in 2D! & that's same as Avengers did being a Huge SuperHero team-up film in 3D & is lot more kids friendly!!

On spiderman; ya it's HUGE!!
Just go & check how much TASM did compared to previous 3 films & it's in 3D!!
SpiderMan film can NEVER flop; but TASM earned aren't very impressive compared to previous ones!
& TDKR is already equal or ahead of TASM in almost every county!
In US or UK!! Everywhere!
It will do well in china; might open bigger but TDKR eventually will take over!!
That's the trend everywhere!!
TheDickRises - 8/10/2012, 7:23 AM
I live in one of Asia country and believe me, people here more excited for TDKR than TASM and kids preferred Avengers than TASM because tasm is aim for teens

GO DARK KNIGHT!!
Wingding - 8/10/2012, 7:33 AM
I also agree with Ceejay.
I'm sick of people acting like the big thing that matters is what it makes at the box office. Who gives a shaz? It was a really great movie, and judging by the polls, the majority of us liked it. If it makes a billion, cool. If it doesn't, cool. I don't care. What matters is that we've been given, dare I say, the best superhero trilogy ever made (so far).
Man I really want to see it again now, lol.
deanwilkins - 8/10/2012, 7:36 AM
Spidey was definitely the better movie. It wasn't Christopher Nolan masturbating for almost 3 hours.
ksommer - 8/10/2012, 7:39 AM
I think it's quite funny that now that TDKR might not hit $1 billion it isn't a big deal but during Avengers run, that was all the talk of how TDKR will do better.
MJPETTY7 - 8/10/2012, 7:41 AM
Guys, honestly who cares if Avengers "beats" The Dark Knight Rises? It's just box office money, and most people went to see Avengers on impulse anyway, I know the first 3 times I saw it were on impulse!!! As for people being afraid to go see TDKR, I think it's a valid fear, but I also think that we should RISE above that, because that's one of the main points of the movie and the trilogy in general. Hell, I recorded a whole podcast on why we should still go see it! Anyway, thanks for listening guys, and I hope all of you went to go see BOTH Batman and The Avengers.

P.S. The Avengers features 6 superheroes (Cap, Thor, Hulk, Stark, Widow, and Hawkeye). The Dark Knight Rises features one (two if you want to argue Catwoman). Of course Avengers would appeal more to the average person!!!
Maxi91291 - 8/10/2012, 7:44 AM
Sweet, must be a billion ... I wish I was the one who recieves like 4% ... I could settle for 3% .. maybe even 2% . Aaaah .. even 1% would make my weekend a whole lot better
jaewest215 - 8/10/2012, 7:47 AM
@ mbembet - Agreed. Why do people compare the two movies especially on who made more? I NEVER got that. Just because a movie made alot of money mean that its good. Just because didn't make alot of money mean that it was bad. Money doesn't ALWAYS equal quality when it comes to movies.
TonyChu - 8/10/2012, 7:48 AM
I don't understand why fanboys get so competitive whether their movie makes a billion dollars. At the end of the day you guys don't get shit. I swear the fanboys are more concerened about the movies making money than the damn movie studios.
Matador - 8/10/2012, 7:49 AM
TDKR will miss a billion by a dollar.
Maxi91291 - 8/10/2012, 7:49 AM

Batman always win. Nolan rules.
GoILL - 8/10/2012, 8:00 AM
@Ceejay and Wingding well said guys.

@cipher feels just like the Bourne thread from last night doesn't it?
Ranger14 - 8/10/2012, 8:03 AM
I think the so-called "Marvelites" are only bringing up Box Office because many of those that are now saying Box Office doesn't matter when it comes to TDKR were all on the opposite side of the coin last spring saying that TDKR would top the Box Office this summer because it would be such a great film, etc. I always thought it would push the billion dollar mark, but after seeing it felt it was only an average film. Great that it is making the money, but as stated, money doesn't dictate how great a film is. The only thing that dictates that is the individual viewer's feeling on the matter.
GoILL - 8/10/2012, 8:12 AM
@cipher lol true shit man, I only care if they make money because I want to see more quality cbm's which I felt we got this year.
TheAmazingAvenger - 8/10/2012, 8:18 AM
the dark knight rises and the amazing spider-man opening on the same day in china is not a good news for the caped crusader. most people here in asia love spider-man more than any other superhero... this will be a hard-fought battle folks.
PapaMidnight - 8/10/2012, 8:19 AM
It's a difficult task for a third chapter of a trilogy to reach 1B... and doesn't really matter, Transformers 3 reached that mark and it isn't a very good movie, the opposite of ROTK that reached 1 bi worldwide and it's a master piece.
Don't worry, TDKR will do well anyway! It's a great movie.
aztecRaingod - 8/10/2012, 8:25 AM
TDKR , cruising merrily off the reputation of the first two movies. Bring on the reboot.
Maxi91291 - 8/10/2012, 8:27 AM
I think the reboot can wait ... like ... 10-15 years
dcfanmalaysia - 8/10/2012, 8:32 AM
Bale acted in a Chinese movie, right before TDKR. He might have a new fan base in China by now. Should help to bring the box office collections

i predicted $850,000,000 & i'm gonna stick by it.
Ranger14 - 8/10/2012, 8:37 AM
Maximus@ Would you quit using the two polls argument! lol It is an invalid argument because the polls here are not controlled and conducted in a legitimate way. Those thousands of people that voted could actually be a few hundred who voted over and over again. You don't conduct an actual legitimate and representative poll that way. We know how the Nolan fans and Marvel fans are here. Any poll through this site will be heavily skewed on any topic regarding their films because their fans will vote over and over again just to make their film look good. If the poll isn't controlled...it can't be considered an accurate representation of the market.
worldbreaker - 8/10/2012, 8:41 AM
everyone that doesn't agree with me is wrong. obviously something was better than something and you're just fanboys for having a different preference than mine. only i can be right. winning lol
GoILL - 8/10/2012, 8:56 AM
@cipher yeah that shit was funny.
Nubase - 8/10/2012, 8:57 AM
its not confirmed that both movies will open on the same day, l find it hard to believe both movies will open on the same day, we will know soon
Ranger14 - 8/10/2012, 8:58 AM
Okay guys...girls.. whatever. Go study how polls should be conducted and then come back and tell us that the end result would still be the same. All it takes is more fanatic fans from one side or the other to skew the poll and there is no way to tell who from what camp would vote over and over again. There is no way to say one film is is representatively better based on the system these polls use. And please note that I said the same for polls that favor Marvel films.

"Correct, both sides had people who more than likely had people who either voted twice or tried to do so. Both sides negate the other and the results still would be the same..."

That's purely speculation and any poll would be thrown out the window based on that. The bottom line is that as long as a poll allows people to vote more than once it is considered invalid and will never be taken seriously by those who use polls to get a pulse on the market place.
NeoBaggins - 8/10/2012, 9:00 AM
That's cool news if you're into this sort of thing. Bad news if you're a shit-eating hater who prayed the film would flop.

Good times. Cheers.

GoILL - 8/10/2012, 9:10 AM
@Intruder the choice for movie of the year on this site is not unanimous.
marvel72 - 8/10/2012, 9:16 AM
@ Squaremaster

how do you know its gonna do over a billion its $226,000,000 short.

it'll do a billion if its in theatre's for 6 months.

"get over it" :D
Harris1 - 8/10/2012, 9:21 AM
"Who cares if it makes a billion?" All the Nolanites who were talking shit on how it would smash the Avengers. The same ones who after the Avengers broke box office records for a CBM, tried to switch it up and say TDKR would get more critical acclaim. Now that TDKR did neither of these things, Nolanites try and say, box office doesn't matter.

Avengers surpassed this offering from Nolan in every way. It was just a matter of timing. TDK was a movie for its time. It resonated because it reflected the fear and uncertainty we all felt regarding the state of society as a whole.

The avengers resonates because every one is hoping for a better tomorrow. A tomorrow filled with infinite possibilities. A tomorrow that reveals multi dimensional possibilities as well. Revealing a relationship to the cosmos we never thought possible. The Avengers harkens back to the days of Star Wars and the retelling of the myths of old. Hope, light, humanities continued advancement toward Godhood. These are the things the avengers evoke.

TDKR continues its trek down very dark corridors. And Batman is never truly victorious. He never reveals that hope so many are looking for in their hero's. It's a decent end to Nolan's series. But society is clamoring for light not darkness. And all our hero's, even the dark ones need to reflect that light. The comic book Batman, has embraced this. He doesn't work alone any more. He celebrates his connection to those around. He still strikes fear in the hearts of criminals. But he doesn't strive to strike fear in those closest to him. This is a hero we deserve, one that balances the light and the dark.

TDKR is a success, there is no doubt in that. It didn't do as well as TDK because society is looking for a different type of heroic ARCHTYPE. ARCHTYPES that can escape the confines of our limited understanding of the cosmos and can lead us to the heavens above.
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/10/2012, 9:27 AM
Its gonna make a billion end of discussion. WB's gonna have it out til it hits it. Bet on it.
Tymminator - 8/10/2012, 9:30 AM
Over the last few years, movies have been pulling more cash from overseas so I am not surprised TDKR beat TDK in that respect.

This has been a good comic movie year for me, with Avengers and TDKR and to add, I was pleasantly surprise with TASM, I don't know if this year can be topped in the future. Yeah, lots of comic movies are still on the way and I'm sure I will enjoy a lot of them, but this year will be hard to beat.
GoILL - 8/10/2012, 9:30 AM
AS usual the comment section has went to shit, peace.
NeoBaggins - 8/10/2012, 9:31 AM
The CBM community bickered, trolled and battled; but when it came down to it, the majority held TDKR as the best CBM this year- more surprisingly, claimed WB/DC as the most impressive studio.

That's some wild shit.
Harris1 - 8/10/2012, 9:34 AM
@Azazel, the majority of the worlds population who go to the movies, and also the critics who review them have spoken, and said The Avengers was CBM of the year. I'll take box office receipts and critical acclaim over a poll on this site any day. For all the people who supposedly love this movie, why didn't they show up to the theater to see it? Not much in repeat VEIWINGS for this "masterpiece".
AmericanPsychoWolf - 8/10/2012, 9:39 AM
Everything's hacked nowadays.
