In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

UPDATE: According to Coming Soon, Paramount Pictures claims that the name of Benedict Cumberbatch's character in the film is John Harrison, which is probably a misdirection as they will try to keep the real name a mystery.

Starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Benedict Cumberbatch, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Simon Pegg, Anton Yelchin, Alice Eve, John Cho, Bruce Greenwood and Peter Weller, Star Trek Into Darkness will hit theatres on May 17, 2013.

Man, Hollywood loves interrogation scenes. Dark Knight, The Avengers Skyfall, and now this!

Every time i read the little synopsis this part bugs me.

"When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis."

I can't help but think it should say "devastated" not "detonated". Hard to believe one guy detonated an entire fleet... and everything it stands for...

Khan?
myparentsaredead - 12/10/2012, 11:21 AM
Okay, I'm seeing a trend. I can't wait to see this movie, but are we going to be seeing the villain get caught because he wanted to, then escape in every action movie now? It hit me in Avengers, but just barely. It hit me harder with Skyfall, and now here.
Dynamo - 12/10/2012, 11:21 AM
Alright, chill out there Loki... I mean Cumberbatch.

@darkspark: I know, right?

Hahhaha...

Just had to say this:

Kirk: "Tell me if Sherlock wants a magazine or something." :P
santoanderson - 12/10/2012, 11:23 AM
It looks like Sherlock got trapped in the Apple Store.

Hey myparentsaredead, what about the joker in the dark knight?
TankD - 12/10/2012, 11:26 AM
CALLED IT.
The clip opens with a sequence set in futuristic London, with a couple visiting a comatose girl at a children’s hospital, and Cumberbatch’s character informing the distraught father that he possesses the ability to cure the child.

Cut to Class M Planet Nibiru, where Kirk (Chris Pine) and Dr. Leonard McCoy (Karl Urban) are running through a field of red trees and diving into vibrant blue waters, attempting to flee from a tribe of aliens who, it seems, are on the verge of extinction unless the crew of the Enterprise can prevent that volcano from exploding.

It’s Spock who’s in a position to deploy a device designed to render the eruption inert, but he finds himself perilously close to death standing on a rock inside the volcano amid rivers of lava.

Also seen in the sequence are John Cho as Mr. Sulu, Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Simon Pegg as Scotty and Anton Yelchin as Chekov.

There was certainly no shortage of spectacle, which bodes well for fans of the franchise.

“Star Trek Into Darkness,” written by Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Damon Lindelof, is set to open in theaters May 17.

Bad guy in glass "prison cell"

Nothing new here.
themcdougalbugle - 12/10/2012, 11:39 AM
He better not be just pretending to get caught only to escape with information or something like in Dark Knight, Avengers, and Skyfall. I'm sick of it.
soberchimera - 12/10/2012, 11:40 AM
@SuspenseSmith
Don't forget trailer with villain voiceover and lots of explosions.
RexDartEskimoSpy - 12/10/2012, 11:41 AM
"Ant. Boot."

LOL @ ClaireLannister2016
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 11:41 AM
Let me guess... bad buy planned to be caught too.

Not only did The Dark Knight, Avengers, and Skyfall have interogation scenes, but all three bad guys were caught easily on purpose and then escaped.

If this happens again... I think we have a new cliche on our hands...
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 11:43 AM
Technically this thing goes back to Hannibal Lector days...
Scooby - 12/10/2012, 11:44 AM

maybe? without Dehner?

Cumberbach is a great actor. I haven't watched him in Sherlock yet but he was awesome in Amazing Grace a few years back.
SuperDude001 - 12/10/2012, 11:50 AM
If this is the imprisonment cliche of breaking out it will be just horrible writing. But it could still work.
Anyhow, I'm actually getting tired of Cumberbatch's identity being a secret now. Like it was fun at first but he's the main villain and I doubt knowing would make anything worse (it might even improve the excitement). It's just boring now.
mattboesch8907 - 12/10/2012, 11:52 AM
i'm thinking this movie is going to have homages among homages.
Scooby - 12/10/2012, 11:53 AM
@Splenda, I feel pretty confident that it is Gary Mitchell now. But who knows. Can't wait!
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 11:55 AM
In defense of Star Trek, Skyfall, and Avengers.. all three seem to have the glass cell thing... but all were in production at the same time, so no one's copying the other. It's just a crazy coincidence.
Nomis1800 - 12/10/2012, 11:55 AM
HE WANTED TO GET CAUGHT!

As long as that isn't in it. I'm fine :)
Rowsdower - 12/10/2012, 11:59 AM
Cumberbatch planned to be caught! He's so genius!

@fanboy03191

Yeeeah...because The Dark Knight invented interrogation scenes?
OptimusPrime114 - 12/10/2012, 12:19 PM
I am aware that Skyfall, Avengers and Dark Knight did similar scenes, but they were all great movies. If the movie turns out great, who cares if its a trend?
SuspenseSmith - 12/10/2012, 12:26 PM
*Alarms going off*

"What's going on?"

"Captain, a shuttle's missing."

"KHANN!!!"

lol
SauronsBANE1 - 12/10/2012, 12:27 PM
@SotNatt
lol fanboy wasn't even saying anything remotely close to suggesting that the Dark Knight "invented interrogation scenes." He even listed Avengers and Skyfall as other examples. the worst thing he did was list the Dark Knight first...which makes sense cuz it kind of came out first. people get so defensive whenever any of the Nolan Batman movies are brought up, geez (talking about both "Nolanites" and "Marvelites" even though i HATE those names)
polarkyle - 12/10/2012, 12:30 PM
This could be where sprocket touching the glass scene happens
TankD - 12/10/2012, 12:37 PM
well yea look at the colors of the shirts. Plus isnt BC wearing a non offical uniform worn by people not stationed on the ship. could mean he was brought there from somewhere eles.o_0

Yeah, everything is pointing to Gary Mitchell at this point.

@Claire: lol, you would

@tea: lol
StarkAnthony - 12/10/2012, 1:38 PM
John Harrison? Huh. Perhaps he is a Beatles fan?
Wingding - 12/10/2012, 1:42 PM
Or maybe it is essentially Gary Mitchel, but they changed his name to John Harrison. Or could be an alias...
InfiniteMonkey - 12/10/2012, 1:43 PM
Its bloody fake of course.
Can't wait to see the disappointment when we find out that the writers are still on the recycle mode of regurgitating the same villains from past movies because they have no originality.
6of13 - 12/10/2012, 1:47 PM
Not buying it.
TheGambitFreakIsBatmanOfCBM - 12/10/2012, 1:50 PM
"Redacted", anyone?
Robe - 12/10/2012, 1:55 PM
Ha bloody ha!
Someone is having a laugh, John Harrison was the inventor of the Nautical Watch, that would not be effected by the rough movement of the sea. Why was this important?
If you new what time it was then using the position of the sun etc, you could fiind out your location at sea.
