The merc with a mouth's creator Rob Liefeld took to Twitter today to give hopeful fans an update on the long-rumored X-Force film, claiming that Fox's plans to go ahead with 2016's X-Men: Apocalypse have delayed the film. Hit the jump to check it out!

X-Force creator Rob Liefeld took to Twitter today to respond to a question asked by @actioncomics on the current state of the rumored X-Force film. In the reply Liefeld revealed that plans to release X-Men: Apocalypse in 2016 have disrupted the film's progress:

He went on to say that he didn't believe that the team's original leader, Cable, would be appearing in X-Men: Apocalypse, despite playing a large role in numerous storylines involving the villain:

What do you think? Will we ever see Cable and co. take to the big screen or will they be left to reside in the 90s cartoon? Sign off your thoughts on the future of the film in the comments!

They're not the New Mutants anymore! The mysterious Cable has taken Xavier's former students under his wing and transformed them into the pre-emptive strike team known as X-Force. X-Force is a fictional Marvel Comics superhero team, one of several spin-offs of the popular X-Men franchise, and theeponymous subject of the X-Force comic book series. Conceived by writer/illustrator Rob Liefeld, the team was formed in New Mutants, vol. 1 #100 (April 1991) and soon afterwards was featured in its own series.

I'd rather have an X-Force film than and Apocalypse film. And don't let Singer go near X-Force....please Fox....don't do it...
OpticBlastWins - 6/2/2014, 7:22 AM
Lets hope not. Keep telling us your gonna make these spin off/origin movies and keep pushing them back
TChalla - 6/2/2014, 7:22 AM
This guy has been saying a lot lately.
ReeferInferno - 6/2/2014, 7:25 AM
I'd rather have Apocalypse, then again I've absolutely no idea what X-Force is :P
BatzFTWfan - 6/2/2014, 7:25 AM
Then 2018 movie could be Deadpool.
DefcoN - 6/2/2014, 7:26 AM
Well, considering how DOFP is doing at the BO, Apocalypse has to be Fox's main priority. It's good as long as X-Force is not scrapped.
RextheKing - 6/2/2014, 7:26 AM
Get more than just a shortlist of directors so you can have more than one film being developed at a time... is Matthew Vaughn busy?
MrNiklander - 6/2/2014, 7:27 AM
Who gives a shit about X-Force!?Seriously
Kurne - 6/2/2014, 7:29 AM
I'd take Apocalypse because that is the film that will (fully) get the franchise back on track. DOFP just pointed them in the right direction. I'm guessing X-Force is 2018.
BatzFTWfan - 6/2/2014, 7:31 AM
Apocalypse will be great for sure, after all one of the biggest X-Men villains is coming to big-screen, with return of Gambit, Nightcrawler. But i think they should first release Deadpool then X-Force since he's one of the members, with Domino, Wolverine, Warpath, and Cable appearing in X-force.
BatzFTWfan - 6/2/2014, 7:32 AM
*Maybe Wolverine gets killed in Wolverine 3, so i think X-23 should appear.
yossarian - 6/2/2014, 7:34 AM
Yet somehow, the world continues.
SuperCat - 6/2/2014, 7:36 AM

Well if the Fox X-Men movies tell us anything then they will make an X-Force movie and it will star Wolverine, Toad, Blob, Storm, and 6 characters who were in the background of some comic 20 years ago and they may not even have names.
Snotzo - 6/2/2014, 7:43 AM
It seems Liefeld is the last to know when things change at Fox.
eviltattooedguy - 6/2/2014, 7:44 AM
Just saw DOFP and loved it! Only thing is... why did we need to see wolverines naked ass? Guess that says a lil something about Brian singer right there.
MercwithMouth - 6/2/2014, 7:44 AM
As long as Wadlow still writes and directs it, I'm a happy man. Just hurry the [frick] up!

Anyone remember when Liefeld and Snyder had their little spat all over Twitter, and Snyder actually came on here to talk about it? Heh, good times.
whoa123 - 6/2/2014, 7:46 AM
If they are going to make an X-Force film, make it R or at least a hard PG film. I just want to see more X-Men films though hehe.
cipher - 6/2/2014, 7:47 AM
Snyder kept apologising for the whole thing, and I remember telling 'im "mate, don't apologise. I'd buy you a f*cking drink if I could".
Kayo - 6/2/2014, 7:47 AM
jmartinez986 - 6/2/2014, 7:47 AM
i still think the new timeline that DOFP has created is the best way to go regarding the developement of the franchise... i had an idea about a week ago regarding the films that could come off of it.. check em out..

DanteSparda - 6/2/2014, 7:48 AM
I rather have both films but Apocalypse first of course!
GizmoEl - 6/2/2014, 7:48 AM
I would love the lineup to be Deadpool, Cable, Archangel (after Apocalypse), Gambit, and Psylocke.
DEVLIN712 - 6/2/2014, 7:49 AM
@Ciph
Snyder was on CBM?!
Where you been? You're never about!
MercwithMouth - 6/2/2014, 7:49 AM
Lol @ciph

That's beautiful. And yeah, Liefeld is a douche.
Bloodraven - 6/2/2014, 7:53 AM
I haven't a clue what X-Force is and I'm ridiculously excited for Apocalypse, so I'm cool with this.
HypeMusheen - 6/2/2014, 7:53 AM
Marvel1997 - 6/2/2014, 7:53 AM
Are the X-force suppose to be a team in the future? I'm cofused and was never really familiar with this team.. Can someone explain?
cipher - 6/2/2014, 7:55 AM
DEV- Ha, just been busy with some stuff, that's all. Well, busier than usual, I guess. But, yeah.. Scott Snyder vs. Rob Liefeld..

Snyder actually came on here, and we didn't believe it at first, but it was verified through Twitter. Haha, I remember nails was all "holyshitthisissooooooooawesome, IT'S SNYDER".
Nubase - 6/2/2014, 7:55 AM
Apocaylpse is far more important than X-Force, X-Force will happen l'm sure but that will be after Apoc
cipher - 6/2/2014, 7:55 AM
MERC!! How ya been, man? Have you seen DOFP yet?
MericawithanM - 6/2/2014, 7:56 AM
I just want to somehow see psylocke and cable. Whether they are in Apocalypse or in X-Force, I don't really care, I would just love to see those two in live action!
MercwithMouth - 6/2/2014, 7:57 AM
For anyone unfamiliar...

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/X-Force

They began as a revamp of the New Mutants. But militaristic and brutal.
0megaDaGod - 6/2/2014, 7:58 AM
After dealing with an X Men film where Wolverine never had a credible fight with a sentinel, I'm ready to accept an X Men film where Apocalypse and Cable never fight

You can't expect too much from these guys. Just give me an X Men film that focuses on the TEAM instead of the biggest name stars for a change
DEVLIN712 - 6/2/2014, 7:58 AM
Crap, I can only imagine how quickly the comments must have exploded
marvel72 - 6/2/2014, 7:58 AM
you can always set an x-force movie after x-men apocalypse, just use the story arc from uncanny x-force "the apocalypse solution".
