#10 Miles Morales/Spider-Man
dmb1511: The Reason he is number 10 is because he is a brand new character. I am a bit confused about his ways. But from what I read of the recent comics, he seems very promising. Though his story is nowhere near as original as the “OG” Spider-Man, I like the guy. The only thing that disappoints is his origins, they are kind of lazy. The writers are trying to add too much for one character to make him interesting, as if being black is not enough but better than nothing, I guess. Miles Morales begins our countdown at number 10 on the list.
bigshow2312: Earning the number ten spot, Miles is a step forward of Black representatives in the comic book world. We as readers haven’t seen a Black character take up the mantle in a major series since John Stewart. I will admit, his appearance in the Marvel world was eccentric and rapid which lead me to believe that this was a publicity stunt to draw the minority audience. Not to mention his supposed “homosexual” orientation; this is fine by me but it wouldn’t have caused so much of a stir if Spider-Man was just Black, just Hispanic or just Gay. Arguably, the character will one day be a huge icon alongside many other Black characters; however, the period from here to then is a long ways apart. Oh, did I mention his comics broke records?
