Morgan Freeman: "There's going to be another Batman movie"

The actor believes that there will indeed be a third Batman movie but he's less sure about whether he'll be in it...

Whilst speaking to BBC Radio One the Invictus star was confident that we'll see the caped crusader again sooner rather than later, "Well...I always say, now I've been asked this question a number of times, and I don't think that Warner Brothers, the board of directors, the chairman or the president or any of those people are stupid!"

"Which means there's going to be another Batman movie."

When questioned about whether he'll be back as Lucius Fox he said, "Now that's not carved in stone. We'll only know that when the script is written and the same guy's writing the third script, if there is to be one."

I want a new Batman movie now!!!! lol:P
BillyBlack - 2/1/2010, 3:51 PM
Morgan just stating the obvious.

No production company will walk away from a billion dollar franchise when most of the cast is already contractually obligated to a third movie. They will make a 3rd Batman. Nolan's involvement is another story. But he doesn't appear to be stupid to me either.
WheelJack - 2/1/2010, 3:52 PM
Weren't we supposed to hear news about Batman 3 in January? What month is it?
thwhtGuardian - 2/1/2010, 3:56 PM
That was only conjecture that we'd hear it in January.
ecksmanfan - 2/1/2010, 3:56 PM
Thanks Captain Obvious!

I really don't want to see the riddler in the next one...one of the main things about sequels is that they are supposed to be bigger and better...with the dark knight as violent and ruthless as it was, we need something not necessarily darker but along the lines of the same tone...riddler isnt a crazy murderer villian style as much as he is a thief IMO...they really wouldnt have to think hard about how to bring two face back...he is the kind of twisted murdering psycho that could keep the franchise going in the way the dark knight was....the riddler could be in it, but i dont think it would be as good...i know i might be crazy to say that but with batman begins ending the way it did, we were all excited to see the joker (the one ultimate villian that we didnt need any transition to wanna see the second movie)...with the return of two face we know were gonna get something similiar to what we saw in the dark knight, which was pure "awesomeness"...

Why can't The Riddler be a murderous villian? Perhaps the storyline will make him a bit more destructive than you are giving him credit for. I can totally see him in the ilk of Se7en, Zodiac and even the playfully chaotic hijinx of Fight Club. Which is why I think David Fincher would be the perfect choice if Nolan bows out. His riddles could be two fold: 1. Where he plans to kill/destroy 2. Where he plans to rob. Batman would have to crack the riddle correctly, or people die, buildings explode, loot is stolen, etc. etc. All the while, The Riddler could be setting him up to take the fall. Riddler has potential, I think they will find a way to make it work.
punisher23 - 2/1/2010, 4:15 PM
Hope Nolan picks Black Mask as the villain. He is a very realistic character.

No! I had no idea!

im sure nolan can always find a way, i give all the faith in the world to nolan making things work in his batman universe. i was just comparing his type of character to that of what we had in the dark knight in the joker and two face...in my opinion i personally just dont see him as psychotic and dangerous as the joker and two face.
WheelJack - 2/1/2010, 4:20 PM
we will see though!

Heh heh!
punisher23 - 2/1/2010, 4:56 PM
Having Black Mask means there can be a rivalry between not only batman and black mask but Bruce Wayne and Ramon Sionis, The plot can include the hatred of the Sionis's towards the Wayne's, and the abuse of Ramon which would eventually turn him into Black Mask, which could make a decent storyline
Betty - 2/1/2010, 5:05 PM
LEEE777-- Oh man, such a great show. I'm surprised it hasn't popped up on cable down here in tha dirty dirty.

airbeyonder18 - 2/1/2010, 5:15 PM
Fingers crossed.
Christuffer - 2/1/2010, 5:24 PM
They should have the Penguin in it, but he dies mid-way through the movie, making a huge impact. Then the Riddler goes full throttle on his scheme
ATOMbomb - 2/1/2010, 5:28 PM
We all know there is going to be another Batman film and as fans we all have our own vision of what we want. I would love for Freeman to be back, I think Hugh Laurie would make an incredible Riddler. I think he could be very manipulative. I still say Bain deserves another shot, not the big dumb ass like in that other movie. I don't think TDK was violent at all yeah it had its moments but it would be great if the next one turned it up a notch. With Bain, that could be very possible.
BillyBlack - 2/1/2010, 5:29 PM

That show is fkn funny. A friend of mine got the first few seasons and I watched a few. Hahahhaha Fkn Canadiens man.

AWESOME!!!!!!!! Josh, you should be an editor... 3 articles in a row definitely is something an editor (or a really cool devoted fan) would do. Thumbs up bud!!!

So... does anyone know how my signature can come up for every comment I post??
48and2 - 2/1/2010, 6:14 PM
Still nothing solid, but if Morgan Freeman tells me it's true then I believe it to be true =)

I second everything Billy and Tyler said. BlackMask, Deadshot, and Riddler have the potential for a story with the depth and originality of TDK, or possibly surpassing it.

Really, if Heat was the basic model for TDK, Zodiac would be a killer model (sorry pun intended =P) for this sequel.

And I'll keep saying it until I will it to be true: I'd love to see Lucius and Bruce procure and modify a stealth bomber, build a new batmobile from scratch (which will be carried in the bombay), and rebuild Wayne Manor and the batcave with a runway for the new batwing ;)
Phinehas - 2/1/2010, 6:18 PM
Your talking Deathstroke for Batman?

Then you'll need the versatile...Stephen Lang!

Not James Caveziel or Bruce Willis.
Betty - 2/1/2010, 6:29 PM
LEEE777-- There are a few movies, I think. One of them is called, "Countdown to Liquor Town" or liquor day, which is the first thing I watched by them.

BillyB-- Yeah I love Canadia. I'm thinking aboot moving there to escape my student loans. That and grow some BC Bud.
InTylerWeTrust - 2/1/2010, 7:19 PM
Ron Perlman for Deathstroke (even though he shouldn't be in the movie IMO) :)
48and2 - 2/1/2010, 7:44 PM
Stephen Lang actually has the look of Cable, but I don't know if he could pull off an endearing enough version of him - not much a fan of him myself.

Perlman would probably be the best out of the names mentioned for Deathstroke, imo... but I don't care to see him in this sequel either. I enjoy Willis (taken at face value), but he is incredibly repetative and unoriginal at this point - Surrogates anyone? lol.

Take some of those other names you guys have been tossing around for the Riddler, and cast them as Mask, and Deadshot, then just go for the obvious Depp for the Riddler himself, and half the work is done. I can't believe more of you guys don't see art imitating life with Heath and Depp in Parnassus.

I know I sound like a parrot, but an idealistic parrot at least ;)

I HOPE THEY DO, DO A BATMAN 3 SINCE THEY FINALLY MADE BATMAN HOW IT SHOULD BE MADE

Stephen Lang is CABLE!!!!!!!

CRITIC: Lol, thanks bud! :) I do try to do my best for the site, and I really enjoy osting articles on here - MTV even even credited all those SFX articles I wrote out back to CBM which is pretty great! I guess I only have the time because I'm stuck on my Starjammers fan cast, lol!

Hmm
Phinehas - 2/2/2010, 12:16 AM
Cable is Marvel. Deathstroke is DC.
That would be so Ryan of him to do both! Have you seen all the work Lang has done?
Do you remember him as "Ike Clanton" in Tombstone?
What about the "Party Crasher" in The Hard Way?
"General Stonewall Jackson" in Gods and Generals?
"Charles Winstead" in Public Enemies?
This guy can act and transform into his work. Deathstroke will require such versatility.
Newbe - 2/2/2010, 12:47 AM
going off the whole riddler thing, if the riddler is in the third installment i think that it would develop batman's ability better than any other villain. Throughout each of the films (BB and TDK) Batman has been pushed to the limits in a common feature of his character. The first film his fear, the second film his moral gumption, and i think in the third film it would test his intelligence while all keeping the same test of batman's willpower and perseverance that has been seen in every movie. Going on what Billy says about a Zodiac or seven type of villain it adds more tension and suspense to the movie because it is literally something batman has not seen before. Don't get me wrong the joker pushed batman as far as he could go, but the riddler will take batman to an all new playing field using secrecy and subtlety to his advantage.
MrSuperheromoviefan - 2/2/2010, 4:59 AM
They should bring back Freeman as Fox.

Well said Newbie.

magic8

Actually in HUSH, The Riddler was the mastermind of a plot that killed many. So the "even in the comics he's considered a joke" thing is a massive over-statement. Stop reading the Scooby-Do crossovers from the 70's.

And Black Mask is the most over-rated lame ass wanna be Two-Face villian in the entire rogues gallery.
Relevant - 2/2/2010, 12:50 PM
Of course there will be another one...maybe not in the next year or so but if people think WB will just end it with a 550 million dollar movie, theyre crazy. (Titanic was an exception because it wasnt ever meant to be a franchise)

@Magic8 to be fair the public has heard of bane and well he was not interesting at all. He maybe interesting in the comics, but now public perception of bane is that he is just a cheesy thug. In my opinion i feel like bane is that jerk kid that picks all the cool superpowers. to me if anyone is really boring its bane. i has nothing to ad to batman. One common pattern that Nolan follows is how batman develops based on the characters that oppose him. the joker a character with no morality no conscience Batman is his polar opposite. Joker=chaos batman=order. They even go to extremes to attain their goals, for example the joker is willing to die to make sure that batman breaks his one rule, batman labels himself a murderer to maintain order and security in Gotham. now lets look at the scarecrow, batman's biggest challenge is fear, or so was the theme of the movie. now you have a former doctor running around with a potatoes sack over his head shooting bad acid trips in people's faces. essentially showing people their deepest fears. Batman has to over come this while having to battle an old alley. Once again trying to keep chaos. With bane black mask zsasz and hush i don't seem them causing a major disturbance in gotham. I see them doing the same old mob and thug crap that always goes on which will lead to a sub par film. now the riddler there is room to develop batman's intelligence side. making the only thing between gotham's peace and utter chaos, a mad genius putting batman's intelligence to the test. which in many ways will again question batman on whether or not he can continue being batman. The riddler's puzzles in many ways can be used to cause mass destruction and murder. remember Nolan is not a conventional batman film maker, i figure if anybody can do a deeper darker riddler it is him. I sort of envision his riddler as a cross between kevin spacey in seven, the zodiac killer, osama bin laden, and Carl Sagan into just one character. (yes carl sagan is a stretch but imagine that deep soothing voice as it blows up a bank) I mean the riddler has so much unused potential that anything having to do with those lesser known characters would immediately be dwarfed in my opinion. however i respect anybody's thought out opinion so i'll just end by saying if Nolan is doing this then i will be perfectly happy with whoever he chooses because the Nolan brothers and Goyer will write the shite out of that character. I just think that out of the whole rogue gallery, the riddler has the best potential for an interesting compelling story that fits the Nolan style. now if you will excuse me i'm gonna go pass out.
Newbe - 2/2/2010, 11:11 PM
let me just apologize for the grammatical errors in the last post i am trying to do 2 things at once.
Newbe - 2/3/2010, 9:51 PM
you seem to take the point that Christopher Nola would just copy seven directly, you are forgetting, we are saying "like" seven not seven exactly. secondly i think that what my main point is that from my point of view i cannot see zsasz, black mask, hush, and yes even your beloved Bane. I have also been reading up on bane and well he seems really dull. his whole life ambition after escaping from prison the first time is to kill batman. to me that just screams mediocre. The reason why this is his ambition is because he is convinced that the batman is the a demonic bat that he sees in his dreams is a representation of batman. alright from the way i see things bane does not seem interesting enough to carry out his own movie. Also i don't know why you would want to push for someone like bane, in my opinion he would be nothing without his venom steroids. sure he broke batman's back, but to me that is just one thing worthy of note about bane. I'll admit i don't read any comics with bane in them because i feel is just a one dimensional character. at least with hush there is something about him that gives him motive something that makes him more human. with bane he I feel like he is a static character which leaves nothing to develop batman as a hero.
