that is sexy! I like how Steve and Bucky switched rolls as Captain America and Winter Soldier (that's what it looks like anyway). Does Steve have a weapon/power or is he just blond Nick Furry with out an eye-patch?
jusme6 - 4/15/2010, 1:25 PM
lame ass cap costume. and valkyrie is [frick]ing lame too.
grif - 4/15/2010, 1:34 PM
Steve looks bad-ass in that new get up. He's evolving as a character. I think he will be perfect as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D can't wait to pick this up. Such an odd selection of people. Gotta read to see how it all pans out.

@jusme, I'm sure he will have something useful in that costume. If not he's already strong and athletic.

it is interesting that Bucky will be donning the Captain America persona longer now. I'm excited for everything coming coming. THE HEROIC AGE HAS BEGUN.lol
Aki87 - 4/15/2010, 1:37 PM
why does cap look like Lion-O
P862010 - 4/15/2010, 1:47 PM
steve rogers wearing somethin other than his captain america costume? spiderman moving to san fran to be an xman? (BETTER BE BEN REILLY NOT PETE!) ..... the heroic age isnt really exciting me..... i already miss the dark reign :(
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 1:53 PM
i dont really like steve's costume i like the fact hes evolving as a character like blackair was saying but one of the most iconic things about cap was his shield. and looks like he doesnt have one there.
tommythegreat88 - 4/15/2010, 1:57 PM
Yeah, I'm excited about this, as well as what's going on with the X-Men.

tazmaniak - 4/15/2010, 1:58 PM
you all watch the new x-men teasers...there is one mutant and one non-mutant per pic! i dunno what that means but i am not getting any tingly vibe...sorry marvel...and again, hope may be the saviour and bishop seems to be wrong...that sucks!
i hope emma and cable both die!!!! fiery deaths!

as for secret avengers....
i am happy i got 5/6 right...
moon knight - for sure i knew cuz he has been clawing his way up softly and after norman and hood was such a grand influence in hurwitz's kickass series...i guessed it as soon as 'redemption' was shown...he is marvel's epitome of redemption

valkyrie - i got lucky as i knew it wouldnt be wanda...she will return in a big avengers or xmen story...not this...so valkyrie was a guess

war machine - again, after ozzie tore his ass open, it was obvious steve would go for him...

beast - obvious after he left the xmen

steve rogers - well he is the leader and ive seen his new costume...his should design looks like winter soldier...and he has a nomad influence also...he has no mask and looks mean!

the big 6th member - i bet on sam falcon wilson...and i lost...it is NOVA!!! dudes i dunno how he gets here as he'll be in thanos imperative in MU cosmic...this means that the kickass nova book, just like guardians of galaxy, may be cancelled...and how nova is in it? i dunno...but i have heard whispers that the heroic age on earth will be facing a huge threat year end...rumored to be a cosmic one...hence nova may be the link..

this also confirms that noh varr marvel boy will be the dark avenger to join new avengers as in the DA annual we saw steve and bucky checkin his skills
Anil Rickly - 4/15/2010, 2:00 PM
Fail! They should come up with new characters instead of F-ing around with established characters. It's like writing a sequel to Watchmen!
CaptainProg - 4/15/2010, 2:00 PM
that was my inferences from before...i guessed the secret avengers well but the nova miss is denting my ego...

i cant believe its him...he is a fave o' mine though

steve does look awesome and i see him replacing fury!!!
deodato's art is rocking!!!
cant wait for bru to rock it!

as for this new xmen - i think it's a new book 'new x-men' led by nate grey...it isnt looking all that though
Anil Rickly - 4/15/2010, 2:02 PM
NO one ROCKS MORE THAN Nate Grey My favorite Character of all time! X-Man!
Spock - 4/15/2010, 2:03 PM
Wow...Cap's new threads are completely uninspired and look like it was ripped from the 90's. Glad I stick to the classics.
Stumblin - 4/15/2010, 2:04 PM
I think this is a great lineup! It's especially brilliant to see Beast as an Avenger once again! :) However, I'm more interested in what role in the MU this team will have...they're obviously not going to be a kill squad like X-Force but there has to be a damn good reason why they're secret!

It's great to see Cap in a new costume with a new role (fingers crossed for head of S.H.I.E.L.D!) but you can guarantee that he'll be back wielding the shield before his movie is released!!!
JoshW - 4/15/2010, 2:08 PM
Eh, it's okay I guess but it's just eh, he looks like just another S.H.I.E.L.D. agent to me.
ClintEastwood - 4/15/2010, 2:11 PM
@ Grif

Ven0m - 4/15/2010, 2:11 PM
I'm really looking forward to Nate and Pete meet again, they have a great chemistry going.
think I might give these X-Men a chance..
cologne - 4/15/2010, 2:12 PM
Lets put Spider Man on EVERY TEAM. Jesus. I'm starting to hate him just because I see him everywhere.

The Secret Avengers could be cool. I still think Iron Fist should have gotten on one of the teams. His comics run is over, but he's become pretty high profile since Matt Fraction and Brubaker's run.

This team is looking a bit like X-Force for the Avengers. Although Cap would never go as far as Logan does (unless it was against Nazis, lol)
DannyRand401 - 4/15/2010, 2:26 PM
MOON KNIGHT MOON KNIGHT MUTHA [frick]ING MOON KNIGHT!

Glad my favorite Marvel character is back on a team, lol. Loved his "revival" by Charlie Huston back in 2006, and though it kinda went stagnant after Huston left, the relaunch with Vengeance of the Moon Knight has been awesome. And now that both Stark Industries AND Oscorp are in the toilet, all we have left is SpectorCorp! Moonie is back, baby!

Now if they only would speed things up with his television series...
BaronBubba - 4/15/2010, 2:28 PM
I may be alone in thinking this, but it seems to me that Marvel are trying to push some of their B-and-C-list characters into the limelight by teaming them with A-list, better established characters, possibly with the intention of deciding on which properties to make movie franchises out of in the coming decade.

And the Steve Rogers outfit reminds me of an old Cap rip-off character from the '60s called The Shield, though I can't remember what company produced those comics.

I agree that Brubaker is a hell of a writer and if anyone can make the best of the team dynaics possible with this selection of characters, he can, but this feels as though it's a cynical marketing ploy and Brubaker was chosen to write this because of his success record.

I just can't get over this feeling like a very cynical move on Marvel's behalf and it might turn round and bite them in the ass.
Growler - 4/15/2010, 2:29 PM
it better not be pete! the "rewrite" of the clone saga left ben reilly breathing so it better be him! peter cant leave NY and he cant be an xman! that would be whack! but if its reilly.... then i might be interested....
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 2:30 PM
Can anyone tell me why Jubilee looks like a Vampire??? Last I knew, she still has no real powers... unless Blade bites her to give her strength or sumthin
telavizion - 4/15/2010, 2:31 PM
she had sex with the twilight kid duh! didnt you read 'new moon'? .... jus playin i have no idea why she looks like a vamp
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 2:34 PM
lmao
telavizion - 4/15/2010, 2:36 PM
and actually while were talkin about vampires, its hard to picture blade on a team with anyone, let alone a vampire jubilee. it says on marvel.com something like "whats blades problem with the new xmen?" so far its all pretty confusing
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 2:36 PM
I'm not sure what to think about those X-Men teasers...maybe it's something to do with them taking a bigger role in the Marvel Universe or some sort of team up? Whatever it is, I wish that one of Jeph Loeb's crappy new Hulk's wasnt included! I avoid anything with the Hulk on the cover like the plague these days, lol! :P

And am I the only one sick of seeing Deadpool EVERYWHERE!?! He has a pile of ongoing series (when there are other characters more deserving) and is guest starring in every other damned title as well!
JoshW - 4/15/2010, 2:41 PM
This looks awful...all of it
whytry2hard - 4/15/2010, 2:42 PM

As much as I love the Avengers, this looks really lame. This is not an interesting group of characters, and that costume on Rogers looks like something left over from the 90's. All he needs is a ponytail, a hoop earring or two, and some cartoonishly huge guns. This looks like $4 I can save towards buying more older stories. Sounds like some of y'all like this, and more power to you. I hope you enjoy it. It just doesn't catch my interest. And how many #1's is this for the Avengers now? I thought we got past the constant renumbering of books to create more #1's after the '90s.

And that X-Men thing? God, that's some awful looking art! Could be the worst X-artist since that guy that made everyone look like Geddy Lee. I'll pass on that too. Hey, $8 saved now!

I just see very, very little in Marvel anymore that gets me even wanting to open a book up, which is sad, because I traditionally prefer Marvel to DC. I love the anticipation of getting new books and finding out how the cliffhanger at the end of the last story is resolved, but Marvel has killed my interest, first with the Shitvil War, then with a seemingly nonstop barrage of overblown "events" that render most books unreadable unless you buy 10 other books you don't care about to know what is going on. Ah, for the old days, when one book a month (or two for top guys like Spidey or Batman) was all you needed to buy to follow a character or group! Better stories and often better art were a reasonable tradeoff for the prettier color palate they use now.

comicb00kguy - 4/15/2010, 2:44 PM
It just dawned on me- I know where I've seen this new look on Rogers before! He must have bought some stuff at Kurt Angle's yard sale!
comicb00kguy - 4/15/2010, 2:46 PM
I'm sticking with the main teams personally. I guarnetee there will be like 3 X-Men titles, and one will be the normal team, so thats the only one I'll be reading.

Jeph Loeb raped the Hulk to death. I mean the entire Marvel Universe is teaming up to fight the Sentry in Seige 4, and the one guy whose ever beaten him is off fighting the Red and Purple hulks.

As long as the new X Team doesn't get into the main continuity of stories too much, I don;t really care. I can just pretend they're not there.

I'm stoked with the whole Secret Avengers except for that wierd Valkeriye chick. She seems tacked on.
DannyRand401 - 4/15/2010, 2:48 PM
DannyRand@ "Jeph Loeb raped the Hulk to death. I mean the entire Marvel Universe is teaming up to fight the Sentry in Seige 4, and the one guy whose ever beaten him is off fighting the Red and Purple hulks."

Sir, you can't see it but I'm giving you a standing ovation right now.
OdinsBeard - 4/15/2010, 2:52 PM
Damn i thought this was about the AVENGERS movie for a minute, well just for a second lol! ; P

Dunno, MARVEL did much better with DARK AVENGERS, this just feels the same type of thing without the supervillains! : D

Seems MARVEL is running outta ideas!! ; D

DC = GOLD! : p

Gr8 find though @ JOSHMAN!!!
LEEE777 - 4/15/2010, 2:52 PM
UH??? Wheres all the comments gone?
LEEE777 - 4/15/2010, 2:54 PM
i agree that the rogers costume is a little lack luster. he's got to have some kind of weapon or something. he should've had tony stark hook him up with some cool tech. that is, if it's not to out of character for them after that little spat they had called civil war;)
OdinsBeard - 4/15/2010, 2:55 PM
Looks like Fighting American's costume to me. Ack!
SteveRogers - 4/15/2010, 3:00 PM
The dark reign has been pretty fun with norman, and loki, the dark avengers, daken/romulus, SIEGE... but the heroic age is gonna SUCK. its shit like "hulked out heroes" and "spidey on the xmen" or anything else with deadpool fighting or becoming a pirate that is gonna have me RUNNING back to the ULTIMATE UNIVERSE. sure they killed Wolverine in ULTIMATUM, but the new "ULTIMATE X" (with logans son jimmy) has me wayyyyy more excited than spiderman moving to san francisco to team up with blade, she-hulk, and magneto. and steve rogers with no shield is just stupid, especially with the movie getting started...
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 3:05 PM
bucky is NOT and WILL NEVER BE captain america. they shoulda killed him in SIEGE and made it a big dramatic thing like even tho norman loses, he still makes an impactful evil bloody kill that affects everybody, especially rogers.
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 3:08 PM
Maybe it'll pop up that Savage She-Hulk is a mutant. Maybe they'll claim blade to be a mutant like they claimed Namor to be (Still dont get how he is the "first" mutant over Apocalypse).... Got no possible reason as to why Spidey would be on the team. Cuz he is back on New Avengers wit Wolvie/Cage/Jess/The Thing and I think there is a 6th member
telavizion - 4/15/2010, 3:08 PM
holy crap major changes ahead...
Denn1s - 4/15/2010, 3:11 PM
This is indeed a very unique cast of characters. We have all aspects of super heroes. We have a mutant= beast, a tech based= war machine, a goddess= Valkyrie, a mystic= moon knight, a celestial being= nova, and a human leader= Steve Rogers. I wonder if he will be just called Steve Rogers or have a new mantle. This roster brings us all aspects in the Marvel hero Universe. I'm all for new ideas and reinventing characters, if done properly. I can't wait to see how this will all pan out. Not only having Steve stepping down as Captain America and giving that role and legacy to Bucky, but it also shows a new shift in story telling Marvel is willing to do in order to progress a character. Could Rogers be the first in doing this. Maybe spidey will past down the mantle and live a normal life.

@Lee, I love DC just as much man. Brightest day will be interesting. lol. As for Dark Avengers, we may see them or at least a few back with the new Thunderbolts with Cage as the leader. I think they took way too long to progress the team. They weren't exactly the best team. All of Osborn's goals failed or got smoked trying to handle them. I can't wait to see how it ends with #16.

I wonder where Victoria Hand will be in this. Will her role be expanded in any of the Avenger titles. Will she be running Avengers Academy? I'm excited for all the possibilities the Heroic Age will be bringing.
Aki87 - 4/15/2010, 3:13 PM
LEE: Thanks man but running out of ideas? This looks great to me! And dont forget - we're going to have two other Avengers teams as well! [frick] DC and their constantly changing continuity, lol! How can you care about characters like Flash and Green Lantern when there's been several people who've worn the costume!? MAKE MINE MARVEL!!! :D

Makiveli21: I have to disagree - I think that the Heroic Age will be pretty great especially after years of events like Civil War, Secret Invasion and Dark Reign changing the status quo every year or two...it'll be good to see the heroes back on top!

BlackAirs87: Well said! As for Victoria Hand, I've never been a huge fan of the character but he has a lot of potential..! I cant wait to see how things end in Dark Avengers #16 but are you also disapointed that Spider-Man vs. Osborn came down to just one punch? I hope there will be more because there hasnt been enough done between the characters during Dark Reign IMO!
JoshW - 4/15/2010, 3:16 PM
@Odinsbeard
Thanks. I'm a pretty open minded guy when it comes to weird runs, I don't mind a bit of original stuff like Planet Hulk or Civil War, personally, but he's diluted the most potent power in the Marvel U into a dime-a-dozen bruiser.

I kinda hoped heroic age would be a return to the status quo. I mean, obviously you gotta keep things cool and original in some respects, but the x-men should be the x-men, the Avengers the avengers.

I've never actually read comics of the Marvel world they way its suppossed to be, because I only really started 4 years ago, lol.

I've got no problem with teams like the New Avengers and stuff, but I think they can have a balance. Like, a normal Avengers team, a New (or secret) Avengers team. A normal X-Team, a new X Team. We don't need 50 teams here. I mean, why not make NEW teams, NOT associated with the Avengers or X Men?

Like I dunno...the Immortal Weapons, from Iron Fist? Okay, that was just for me, but you get the idea.
DannyRand401 - 4/15/2010, 3:18 PM
Wow, a secret double knot team...
Jethro Bodine... should of been, it's the same mentality.
Wait, is that Steve Rogers or MARVELMAN from jolly ol' England.
docnoc - 4/15/2010, 3:28 PM
Marvelman. Now THATS an exciting prospect. When are they gonna reprint his old stuff?
DannyRand401 - 4/15/2010, 3:36 PM
Telavizion, Namor is 'Marvel's First Mutant' meaning he is the first mutant to appear in Marvel comics, not that he was the first one in continuity.

Many moons ago Marvel was toying with this idea that all the heroes were mutants, from the FF to Hulk. Unlike many mutants whose powers manifest at puberty, these mutants X-gene lay dormant awaiting a catalyst to jump start it. For Spidey, a radio-active spider bite, for Hulk a Gamma Explosion, etc. I wonder if they aren't finally moving on that idea?
TheMyth - 4/15/2010, 3:39 PM
i'm confused. BEAST IS AN AVENGER WITH BENDIS AND "SECRET" AVENGER WITH BRUBAKER? SOUNDS STUPID! ITS A COP-OUT
dellamorte1872 - 4/15/2010, 3:53 PM
@joshW, yeah the one hit punch Spidey did on Norman was pretty weak. As for the We are X-men thing with having people who aren't mutants joining the team, We don't know how its gonna play out. So give it time. Thats why its called a teaser image.
Aki87 - 4/15/2010, 3:55 PM
where's cap?!? i didn't even see him. ahahahaa..
InFamouslyCool - 4/15/2010, 4:01 PM

VAMPIRE JUBILEE? "SAVAGE" SHE HULK? ELEKTRA? EVERY CHOICE IS ANOTHER NAIL IN THE X-MEN FRANCHISE
dellamorte1872 - 4/15/2010, 4:10 PM
I dont know if anyone has mentioned it yet but Rogers looks like the Super Patriot costume Walker wore before he became Cap!! :D

teabag - 4/15/2010, 4:16 PM
well, the new rosters for the Avengers teams make absolutely no sense. Secret Avengers i can live with, but the other 3 books just look ridiculously bad.

as for the X-Men rosters...IF these non-mutant characters end up being X-Men, then i'm all done with Marvel. it sucks because i'm a life long Marvel fan.

But when the X-Men start feeling more like an extension of the Avengers, rather than the X-Men, then its time to jump ship. the X-Men have always had their very own distinct feel, now they look like Avengers rejects. Hopefully this isn't their new roster. i mean, Psylocke AND Elektra?? Ninja overkill?? they even have the same costumes...just different colors.

DC is putting out a LOT of quality stuff right now, and this is Marvel's answer??? the art isn't even exciting...
CorndogBurglar - 4/15/2010, 4:24 PM
BlackAirs87: I agree! People are jumping to conclusions with this - it could mean any number of things! I dont see Spider-Man or Blade movng to San Fransisco anytime soon to actually join the X-Men...I'm sure it's some sort of team-up or something!

As for Spidey and Norman, I think the whole thing has been handed badly! The List was a real let down especially as the way Pete discredited Norman was undone a month later in Mighty Avengers! American Son wasnt that great either overall. I really thought that Siege would give us THE big showdown between the two so I'm hoping that the fourth issue might deliver on that somehow! (the event should have been an issue or two longer though I think)

tea: Thanks bud! :) I was never a huge Nova fan as Marvel's cosmic stuff hasnt really appealed to me in the past but it's great to see him as part of this team!
JoshW - 4/15/2010, 4:24 PM
@BlackAir, Moon Knight actually ISN'T a mystical character anymore. Jake Lockley, Moon Knight's current dominant personality, walked away from Khonshu (Egyptian God of Vengeance) and is strictly Tech based. Marc Spector, his older Personality, regressed after his one man war with the Thunderbolts during between Civil War and Secret Invasion.

So Moon Knight has a Mystic Knowledge, but NO Mystical Empowerment.
BaronBubba - 4/15/2010, 4:24 PM
@ morte

"i'm confused. BEAST IS AN AVENGER WITH BENDIS AND "SECRET" AVENGER WITH BRUBAKER? SOUNDS STUPID! ITS A COP-OUT"

its not only Beast! Spidey is going to be in "regular" Avengers, as well as New Avengers. AND apparently the X-Men! WTF!!! and Wolverine is going to be in the New Avengers, AND the regular Avengers also. Heroic Age sucks, and it hasn't even started yet.

New Avengers: Wolvie, Spidey, Luke Cage, Jewel, and Thing.

Avengers: Captain America (Steve Rogers, unless its Bucky in Cap's old costume.), Thor, Iron Man, Wolvie, and Spidey.

Secret Avengers: the guys in this article

Avengers Initiative: a bunch of really lame looking teenage characters that are all brand new.

oh Marvel. what are you doing???

CorndogBurglar - 4/15/2010, 4:30 PM
Oh, and....

Jared Padalecki for Nova!!! :)

JoshW - 4/15/2010, 4:30 PM
eww Steve's costume is disgusting. NOVA!!!!!!!
WhiteLantern - 4/15/2010, 4:35 PM
CDB: Beast isnt going to be a regular Avenger as far as I know while Spider-Man and Wolverine will be New Avengers but may be seen in the other Avengers title as both teams share a base apparently! And I think I read that it will indeed be Bucky who'll be alongside Iron Man and Thor..! I think that the Heroic Age will be great - I wouldnt jump the gun thinking that those "We Are The X-Men" promos mean too much - they're more likely just for a limited series or something! Personally, I'm excited for these new teams! Dont forget that Spider-Woman and Hawkeye (back in costume) will also be part of the regular Avengers team! :)
JoshW - 4/15/2010, 4:35 PM
@ JoshW - I usually don't put down other people's comments but the response you did to LEEE777 is just plain idiotic. I'll leave it at that, lol. Just doesn't make any sense.

JJMeylar - 4/15/2010, 5:39 PM
blueorangeny: Haha, no worries! I've just never read DC as I got started on the Marvel cartoons in the 90's and that developed into reading the comic books back when the first Spider-Man movie came out...I just use my ignorance on all things DC to wind him up, lol! The characters have just never appealed to me I guess! (although I do own a pile of Batman graphic novels!)

that cap suit looks like its from gi joe ....what are they playing at

Bandrews1 - 4/15/2010, 5:58 PM
I thought Steve didn't like Moonknight?
BryEL - 4/15/2010, 6:04 PM
I have to say I'm more interested in X Men than secret avenger's. Spiderman and Blade seem like a very cool addition to the team in my opinion.
Nellb4Zod - 4/15/2010, 6:11 PM
@ josh

i'm going to give it a shot, but i just can't see how this can live up to everything that lead up to this. going all the way back to Secret War and all the way up to Siege, Marvel put out consistently good stories. (didn't care much for Secret Invasion, but still had an awesome build up.)

i just can't see how this will be as good. i'm not excited about ANY of the art i've seen so far, and i don't like how much everything is getting mixed up.

New New Avengers really irritates me the most. Its the same basic team, AND it has the same exact title. It was just an excuse for Marvel to sell a new #1 issue.

and Avengers Academy looks REALLY weak. Initiative was one of the better Marvel series for a while, and its getting replaced by this. i would much rather see the old Initiative characters than these jobbers.

maybe they'll prove me wrong, but i'm not that interested. I'll give Marvel a chance to prove it though, i've been a lifelong Marvel fan, so i at least owe them the benefit of the doubt...
CorndogBurglar - 4/15/2010, 6:16 PM
Yawn .... This is why i dont Buy Comics Anymore.
No Offense to anyone Here Personally.
Secret Avengers.... Whats so Secret about it ?

wouldnt it make more sense for steve rogers to be captain america and back with thor and iron man in the avengers with all these movies coming out???? hows the little kid who has never read a comic book but becomes interested because of the movies gonna feel when he picks up his first avengers comic and captain america isnt even steve rogers?????

josh- what about the heroic age so far is cool? how are the heroes "on top"? if theyre "on top" then it wont be interesting because there needs to be controversy and conflict. everything cant be sunshine and rainbows all the damn time. DAMN YOU DISNEY!!!!! on another note, the beef with spidey and osborne isnt over. they might tangle again in SIEGE (spidey knockin him out with the one hitter quitter was cool tho...) but "american son" part 2 is comin out in a few months and its gonna involve harry osborne, gabriel stacy, and probably a more insane than ever incarcerated norman osborne.... cant wait!

Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 6:28 PM
jusme6: Thanks man, it's a role I think he's perfect for! :)

CDB: Dont get me wrong, I agree with A LOT of what you're saying! I was never actually a big fan of Avengers: The Initiative and I highly doubt that I'll be picking up Avengers Acadamy...like you said though, it would be much better to have a series focusing on the characters from that title (I loved the first 12 issues but lost interest after that) rather than do the same old thing again in a slightly different way!

I think Marvel have screwed up with Siege - the fall of Asgard and the build up with the Sentry should have been bigger than 4 issues. It does worry me that the Heroic Age will have been a bit too rushed just to appeal to new readers who might pick up the comics because of Iron Man 2 and the other upcoming movies!

Although it'll be great to see Cap, Thor and Iron Man (as well as Hawkeye who will thankfully be done with Ronin) back as a team it is a pity they werent a little more imaginitive especially when it comes to New Avengers...I mean, The Thing!? Still, the above line-up and Ed Brubaker's involvement gives me hope as well as the chance to see more art from Stuart Immonen, Mike Deadato and John Romita Jr (even though he draws a horrible Iron Man!)

But despite all that, as someone who only reads Marvel I have no choice other than to give them a chance! I hope it all works out and most definitely hope we can take a break from all of these big continuity changing events, lol! Out of interest, who would be your ideal Avengers roster based on say, 6 - 8 characters?

Makiveli21: I get what you mean but after 7 years of big events that have broken up The Avengers, put hero against hero and had the villains on top it'll be good to see things return to normal for a little while..! They need to bring back some classic villains like Kang for the heroes to have a single enemy to face! I'm crossing my fingers for Spidey vs. Norman in the final chapter while that American Son mini does look promising! What are your thoughts on The Gauntlet so far?
JoshW - 4/15/2010, 6:31 PM
josh- its been kind of a let down.... i cant really put my finger on what it is but the spiderman in "amazing" seems different than the one in other books.... i think the writers tried to get a little more realistic with all the gangs and mafia type bad guys but its totally taken over the book. at a period in time when norman osborne ran the world, you would think it would get mentioned a little more but "amazing" is the only book that isnt affected by norman and the dark reign AT ALL. weird. hopefully gauntlet has a climactic ending with the lizard and kravens family
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 6:44 PM
Moon Knight!!!!!!! Finally! Marvel please show the world how cool the fist of KHONSHU really is! Good to see Blade back in action. I followed him in the MI: 13 series.

hmmmm dunno why that posted twice or why i cant delete it... its cool tho read it twice cuz i meant it! i think whats missing in spidey (i know im gonna get shit for this) is mary jane. at first i was excited about a single peter parker but ever since harry osborne moved in with mj ive just been really uncomfortable.... i want her back! lol

the juggernaut series is kinda cool tho, i thought the last time i saw juggs he got knocked clear into outer space by skaar, so when they were like "something can stop the juggernaut" i was like "duh hulks kid knocked him offa the planet" but the cosmic guy looks kinda cool.
Makiveli21 - 4/15/2010, 6:52 PM
comics r lame lol
Anil Rickly - 4/15/2010, 7:30 PM
the new costume is dope it looks like a shield/gi joe suit......go mr rogers
jadaqwest - 4/15/2010, 7:50 PM
The new cap costume is lame. Maybe it will look better in the movie? Michael Bay sucks.
Pooh - 4/15/2010, 7:56 PM
If you think about it. A few of the people in question are in certain terms a mutant. Spidey has his genetics altered making him one of a kind, savage she hulk is green and different, also blade is half man, half vampire, so he could be considered a mutant. As for elektra IDK.lol.

I can't wait to see the first issue of secret avengers. we will get much more detail when we get closer. Rogers is ballsy showing his face like that.
Aki87 - 4/15/2010, 8:12 PM
@ CorndogBurglar , Thats Bucky Cap in Avengers book not Steve Cap (notice the gun in hand)... Steve will only be major in Secret Avengers.

telavizion - 4/15/2010, 8:14 PM
@tela, Seeing bucky cap is interesting. Unlike what might happen with Grayson Batman. IDK whose gonna fair better. I think Bucky will do well leading the Avengers. I'm curious about the one with Rogers, Stark, and Thor.

Hey everyone, check out my new story
X-Men: The Adventure of Cyclops and Phoenix

A stranded Cyclops and Phoenix are offered aid by an elderly scientist. But is he sincere in his aid, or does he have more sinister motives?

This is a tie-in to my upcoming X-Men 6: Rise of Apocalypse.

Check it out!

THEHAWK - 4/15/2010, 9:02 PM
just an fyi guys...not to be a light-hog...but you guys knew who coined the phrase...buckycap...:)...yours truly...even nick lowe marvel editor gave me kudos for that...then i started dropping it here on cbm :P

onto bigger things...first, this xmen roster seems like a 'new x-men' book which we havent seen since messiah complex...obviously after 2nd coming, there wont be so many deaths or changes that we get this new team...this team will be a separate unit under the xmen...and yes...nate grey is back and im giddy...cant wait for them to address the scarlett witch ordeal and sort things out with magneto and her brother...but rest assured the xmen will remain relatively the same...as for the leader? well let's say that some deaths...big ones are coming...so stay tuned...

ive heard lots of moaning and whining about secret avengers...and rightfully so...cuz we are fans and we luv these books...but brubaker has constantly done well...his cap, his daredevil, his epic messiah complex work and other x-stories...have all been spot on...his marvels work also...the guy is a bonafide genius and deodato's art as seen in dark avengers is epic...so you'd really bet against this duo before this book hits stands? 2 of marvel's hottest properties?...yeah right...if you bet against them, clearly you havent been into marvel over the past 4 years...and for bendis to give up dark avengers and allow secret to take its spot (esp when dark was marvel's top selling book_...speaks volumes of the ideas they are setting fwd with this book...
people were skeptical of fury's secret warriors but that has been wicked...so i think this is gonna be the avengers version of that...and will rock...cuz despite the heroic age and bright light hubub, steve knows the world needs some dark teams to truly save it...cuz the world wont save itself...xforce, dark avengers, secret warriors...etc...we need secret teams to get hands dirty and get jobs done...a la secret war and fury/quake!!!
and this new team...well nova is a shock but i think they'll use him to bridge a marvel heroes vs cosmic villain threat...as of course we remember brubaker was the guy who threw vulcan into the shiar and left havok etc in space with starjammers??? so im sure the cosmic villains and vulcan are coming to attack the MU and settle old xmen scores...
as for beast and moon knight, well moon is MU's batman and his book has rocked and i love his dark redemptive undertone...and beast returns without wonderman and with no xmen ties...just brilliant as we need a sci genius a la reed/pym...the valyrie is off setting but im sure bru will explain it fully...and war machine is a given...leaving steve who to me is fury's succesor and future head of shield...ive made all these calls since the book was announced so tis no news to me...steve realises that there is dirty work still to be done...esp with fury wrapped bet leviathan and hydra...
and his costume? i love it and i sense a nomad/winter soldier influence cuz steve knows the world is different and right now, bucky is the man for the shield...and im sure steve will reclaim when the movie comes around...but till then bucky is owning as cap...and steve has other plans...brubaker writes him perfectly so im pretty comfy with this!!!

as for new avengers, well same cast and i hate wolvie/spidey in them...and noh varr is joining...and avengers academy looks kinda lame, esp as i loved the initiative...which rocked harder in dark reign...and as for t-bolts...well i hope we get our fill of luke cage and his reformed villains and past dark avengers doing their thing...cant wait to see rand, shang chi etc show up...but most of all, ill miss crazy normie and his dark avengers doing crazy shit :)

and trust me as an avenger fan since i could read comics...bendis vision to drop and dissassemble em into the deepest shithole, millar who made em fight each other, house of m, sec inv, dark reign etc was a very well laid plan over years...and whilst the execution faltered at times...overall twas a brilliant scope, and he dug their coffins...now bendis is the ideal man to bring them back into the light of the heroic age...and for secret avengers...well we want em as a good version of dark avengers...and this creative duo is nothing short of immaculate...so peeps...STFU cuz u will buy the books...and im gonna be ballsy and say U WILL enjoy the read :)
Anil Rickly - 4/15/2010, 10:27 PM
Bah just give me Siege #4, then lets get on with Invincible Iron Man and Thor. Wish they could bring back the Immortal Iron Fist though
breakUbatman - 4/16/2010, 2:04 AM
@ josh

my ideal Avengers team would be Cap (Stever Rogers), Thor, Iron Man, Hawkeye, Wasp, Yellow Jacket, Vision, and Warbird.

to me, thats an Avengers team. but those are MY picks, there are PLENTY of other Avengers characters that you can swap out with my picks, and still make it feel like the Avengers. (Wonder Man, Jacosta, Black Knight, god the list could go on and on.)

my biggest argument is that the Avengers just don't feel like the Avengers anymore. I blame Bendis for that. (Mighty Avengers was real close to being a good, classic Avengers team, it was just written poorly.) He was great up until after Civil War. after CW, he started writing all his characters exactly the same, there was too much of everyone sitting around and being smart asses to each other, and they fought the Hood for what seems like forever. i just don't think Bendis has a good grip on what makes the Avengers great. IMO of course.

and it sucks, because he's become Marvel's poster boy...

CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 5:16 AM
@ gunner

"Secret Avengers.... Whats so Secret about it ?"

the fact that they're a secret Avengers team that the general public doesn't know about. kinda like Avengers Black-Ops.

i thought that was kind of obvious, lol
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 5:18 AM
@anil, thats a long post, you should have made that an editorial.lol. I do agree you with most of what you said
Aki87 - 4/16/2010, 6:34 AM
I'll have to agree with Ror here, this has "blehmehblahmeh" written all over it. Why do i get the feeling that Marvel/Quesada will be sinking further in shit and eventually have to use Wanda to Zap things back to it's roots with one Avengers book and one X-men book and pull a Final Crisis on Marvel, maybe even bridging the Ultimate Universe along with it? I dunno... it really looks like they're goin' overboard on brainfarts that seem to smell fresh at first but will wreak havok later on. They sure do seem to like #1 issues so that alone tells me they wouldn't hesitate one second to do it should the sales drop below expectations. I guess that option is always on the table. Take Wanda and merge her with... i dunno... Sentry, and you could get a whole other Big Bang that could fix everything maybe even killing those two in the process.
Shaman - 4/16/2010, 6:53 AM
Teabag: The Super Patriot. Of course! I KNEW I'd seen a version of that costume around before, I should have thought of him! I do see similarities with Fighting American also.

Corndog: Now THAT is a great lineup of Avengers! My only difference is that I think the Scarlet Witch (pre-House of M version) belongs in there somewhere. There are certainly any number of variations on the team that have worked well over the years. I just don't personally care for several of the characters in this "Secret" bunch. I think you're also right that the Avengers just haven't felt like themselves since the Shitvil War. That story was the beginning of the end of Marvel for me. Ever since then, it seems like all they do is go from one overblown "event" to the next, leaving individual books unreadable if you're not following the "event". I miss the old days where stories were usually contained to one title. It's a shame because until the Shitvil War, I really enjoyed New Avengers.

Makiveli: When the Avengers movie gets near, look for a shift in the teams to reflect the team we see in the movie. IF Marvel remembers the lesson from the first X-Men film, that is.....
comicb00kguy - 4/16/2010, 7:14 AM
-a fictional narrative, as I imagine it, being thrown around the Marvel meetings the past few months-

Marvel Marketing Guy- "Hey looks like we have a popular title here... how about we shake things up a bit and create some "synergy" between these titles"

Marvel Writers/Inkers/Artists: "Why? These titles are seeling well on their own and we are organicly bringing in some of the older or lesser known characters. That way it feels less manufactured."

MMG: "That's a 'quaint' approach but it lacks a bit of 'pizazz'. Plus it's not in line with our ultimate goal."

MWIA: "Ultimate Goal???"

MG:"SECRET WARS 3.. mutants versus lunch ladies THE MOVIE"

MWIA: *no response only hushed gasps and random thuds as multiple begin people suffering from cardiac arrests, spontaneous combustions, and fall to the floor*

MG:"........so you guys want to hear how it ties into new WildC.A.T.S/JLA book or...?"

MWIA: *those that survived the first wave hav now all passed*

jusme6 - 4/16/2010, 8:40 AM
@ comicbookguy

thanks man! i'm oldschool, so that probably explains my picks, lol. and i think Wanda deserves to be there too, as well as Quicksilver. but Josh asked for a team of 6-8 people i would want, so i dropped them. but they would fit just as easily. there are just TOO MANY Avengers characters out there to be using the same people on multiple teams. lets give some love to the characters that made the Avengers what they are today, y'know?

also, certain characters just shouldn't be on certain teams. New Avengers worked originally because it still had Avengers-ish characters on it. Spider-Man was always a reserve Avenger, so he never bothered me. Wolverine was the only one i didn't like on the team.

but after Civil War, it just went down hill as far as the feel of the Avengers. its just not the same.
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 8:57 AM
BTW, for those who think Luke Cage is staying an Avenger, he isn't.

He's gonna lead the new Thunderbolts. Cage, Moonstone, Ghost, Crossbones, Juggernaut, and Man-Thing.
BaronBubba - 4/16/2010, 9:42 AM
BaronBubba- That's the worst line-up i've ever heard in my life.
Shaman - 4/16/2010, 10:23 AM
I knew Marvel would find a way to screw up this "Heroic Age". Does it make any sense to anybody that now that Captain America is back and Bucky is back, that Bucky would be Captain America and Captain America (There is only one!) would be some other type of patriotic hero?

Really. Does that make sense to anybody? Also they rave about the Avengers finally getting back to the "big three", except that's Bucky, not Cap. Just more lousy crap coming from Marvel these days.

Sounds to me like the "House of Ideas" is all out of good ones and now we're getting all the bad ones.
niknik - 4/16/2010, 10:29 AM
@ baronbubba

uh, yeah, Cage is a New Avenger. he'll also be the leader of the Thunderbolts. He's in both.
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 11:30 AM
@ niknik

Steve is the director of SHIELD. he's not just some new patriotic character. but i agree, getting back to the big 3 doesn't mean shit when its Bucky and not Steve Rogers...
CorndogBurglar - 4/16/2010, 11:32 AM
NOT A FAN OF VALKYRIE, ANOTHER CHICK CHARACTER COULDA BEEN CHOSEN, AND BEAST (WHILE AWESOME)? BENDIS ALREADY HAS HIM IN HIS AVENGERS BOOK, SEEMS LIKE A BIT OF OVERKILL ON THE CHARACTER. STEVE ROGERS, MOON KNIGHT, AND NOVA ARE OBVIOUS AND LIKELY CANDIDATES. BUT INSTEADA VALKYRIE IT SHOULD BE THE BLACK PANTHER CHICK. AND INSTEADA BEAST SOME OTHER MUTANT SCIENTIST LOL OR EVEN DARWIN THAT BRUBAKER HIMSELF BREATED IN UNCANNY

And he's got a GUN!

Stubbyswof - 4/16/2010, 11:58 AM
Steve as SHIELD Director is pretty exciting. It'll be interesting to see how he runs things, as opposed to Iron Man. He'll probably be a lot better at picking good people and delegating, not using his Extremis abilities to try and control everything.

Thats actually something I really liked about the IM run as SHIELD director. He was essentially trying to be Superman, to be able to be everywhere, monitor everything at once. But he's just a man- and the toll it took on him was inevitable.
DannyRand401 - 4/16/2010, 12:13 PM
THE X-MEN TEASERS ARE BETTER THAN THE AVENGER TEASERS.
the x-men are normally made up teams of mutants, this is a very intresting direction these charactors are taking.all the heroes joining got all their powers by mutation, where proper mutants get them in their teenage years.
deadpool72 - 4/16/2010, 12:49 PM
i had this suit for rogers i prefer him as captain america! i mean they kill im off(sorta) then they let bucky take it for a year, then they bring em back to give us this! i mean seriously!
spiderman620 - 4/16/2010, 3:04 PM
LOL SEE YOUR POINT @dp72 - but i find it unforgivable. i own 400 issues of UNCANNY and i kinda understand what you mean lol. but thats a stratch even for me the lines BETWEEN HERO AND MUTANT started to be blurred when BEAST originally joined the AVENGERS back in the day, NOW ITS RIDICULOUS AND LACKS VALIDITY. as i said, MARVEL ATTEMPTS THIS I DROP UNCANNY X-MEN, AFTER A POWERFUL COLLECTION! SHIT BND KILLED SPIDEY FOR ME, THIS KILLS TH X-MEN, THE HEROIC AGE IS DEFEATING ITSELF. A SO-SO SECRET AVENGERS LINE UP?

dellamorte1872 - 4/16/2010, 4:41 PM
AND EVEN IF X-MEN ARE ALLIGNED WITH "NEW" X-MEN. WHY DO WE HAVE THE LIKES OF; X-MAN, GAMBIT, VAMPIRE JUBILEE (LOL), ELEKTRA, BLADE, "FUTURE/SAVAGE" SHE-HULK. THE COMBINATION IS WEAK. I THOUGHT CLOAK + DAGGAR WERE BAD CHOICES AT THE TIME LOL. THIS IS EVEN MORE PATHETIC

dellamorte1872 - 4/16/2010, 4:53 PM
Not a big fan of the new costume.

1. The brown leather gloves, brown boot coverings have to go.

2. No Mask??

3. No Shield (Of any kind?)

4. A GUN!?!?

I was hoping the "Heroic Age" would truly bring the "classic" Avengers back together and we can move past all of this angst filled, the world sucks, being a hero sucks crap we've been subjected to.

I've had enough "Nirvana Avengers" I want "Beatles Avengers."

I want my heroes back, not a bunch of screw ups making excuses like "we make mistakes, too."

Enough is enough.

Cap, Thor, IM, Pym, and the Wasp along with whoever comes along should be the Avengers.

Sorry to rant, I've just not been to happy with the direction that the Avengers have been taken to, especially under Bendis.

Ultron8872 - 4/16/2010, 7:24 PM
BTW, Bucky Barnes is NOT Captain America, Steve Rogers is Captain America.
Ultron8872 - 4/16/2010, 7:30 PM
@Ultron8872

Absolutely the best post I've seen yet! Your words fit it to a tee. It seems this newest generation of writers and editors (starting with Quesada) seem to think that the only way to sell books and write interesting stories is to make the world a dark place and blow the world up in a cataclysmic event one summer then try to top it the next. Everything has to be dark and forboding. We all need to be depressed in order for it to seem realistic. Screw that! I remember when we used to read comic books as an escape. The Marvel universe was a place I could imagine that I would want to go to. It wasn't all rainbows and smiles. It had it's realistic side, but it was also a place of fantasy. It had an appeal to it. Marvel writers were able to come up with one fantastic storyline after another for 40 years before this group of wannabe's started $hitting all over Stans universe with Avengers Disassembled, and continued on from there for the next 7 years.

Now here we are 7 years later and it's neck deep.

Now they act like it was all part of a 7 year plan leading up to the "Heroic Age". Reminds me of Pee Wee Herman falling off his bike saying: "I meant to do that". Yeah right! What's next Pee Wee? BuckyCap and the Sortof Avengers? Captain S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Secret Avengers? We're neck deep and "Yay were saved by the Heroic Age", except they're shovelling it with a spoon.

Why not use this opportunity to just get things back in order the way the were meant to be and use good storytelling and top quality artwork to sell books, not universal armageddon every summer that only results in making the Marvel universe a place no one wants to escape to anymore. If they want a REAL Heroic Age, then they should bring back the REAL Avengers. Cap, Thor, Iron Man, Goliath, Wasp, and any 3 or 4 other regulars. That would be Heroic.
niknik - 4/16/2010, 8:44 PM
@shaman...i could not disagree with u more bud

@jusme...yep i coined it man...nick lowe, xmen editor, even mentioned it at some convention after he visited trinidad...and me and him hung out and had dinner..focking awesome man...he is amazing cool, a geeky fanboy and an overall awesome man...met him last april and guess what...he asked me what i thought would happen out of the dark avengers crossover and i told him...i called the utopia man...and i could see in his face he nearly shat himself...he focking called me an error operator...from taking back sunday's ff4 s/track...and fricking said i operated like a mix of reed and scott summers with the way i think with comics...that was the best dinner i ever had...he is awesome!

@niknik...dude it's a process...years and years of arcs have to be split apart and then re-fprm for everything to come together...and those dark tales made for good stories...probably not the best executed...but good noentheless...and who's to say we wont get the heroic age that you want in a matter of time...why not give this a chance and you'll find that maybe u shockingly enjoy it...it's all a wrung on a huge ladder pal...patience :)
Anil Rickly - 4/16/2010, 9:38 PM
Nova: keep trying guys, he's never going to be interesting. Valkyrie: there's a host of Asgardians they could put in that role. Does every former Defender now have to "graduate" to Avengers membership? Moon Knight: Marvel's crap version of Batman that after two plot threads he's done. The Avengers work night and DAY. War Machine: I think it's time to give Jim more. It's not the best suit. If anything, he should probably head them up. Beast: didn't he take over for Xavier? Glad they dropped the Lion-o look.
Steve Rogers: we went through all this crap, reborn, etc, for him to look like the fighting American, come back with Superman's return-to-life do, and no shield?
When John Walker took over, that was a great story. Bucky? Bucky? Are we actually believing that student becomes the master? No super-soldier formula? I'd rather see Vance Astro with the shield.
Marvel are you out of ideas or is Disney already ruining you?
Oh, and I accept it, but still think Wolverine as an Avenger is ridiculous.
marvelguy - 4/16/2010, 11:33 PM
@marvelguy...wolverine as an avenger was to compensate for the loss of thor, hence him and ares were the arms brought in...and apparently wolverine saturation set in leading up to the origins film...and he is still in many books...and thus far, with arcs set forth from years ago, tis hard to pull him out now...i would like to see less of him, spiderman, deadpool but as with thor and GL...with movies coming soon...we prob wont...
as for nova, clearly you havent been reading MU cosmic since annihilation...i urge you to see what abnett and lanning have been doing...and how this ties into the current imperative...and then i assure you'll reserve better judgement...and i agree with the valkyrie and rhodey opinions you spewed but you really dont think the man brubaker would mess up after such amazing work on cap books, marvel proj, the torch, xmen messiah complex etc...do you? im sure he has a brilliant story in mind...and as for moon knight...his last 3 years of books, despite being a batman-like figure, has made him a damn interesting character and his books are better than the punisher ones and other b-list characters so if it is anyone to get a push on a secret darker redemptive book...it is HIM...
as for rogers and bucky, well that's a long argument...and brubaker has made bucky into a great cap...and we will see steve take the shield back later...but right now, buckycap is owning the role...and marvel's plans for steve rogers are so immense that when you read them in the next year or so...you will be eating a lot of your words...:P
anytime you wanna banter...holler pal..cheers mate!!!

have a go at spiderman rebirth

Anil Rickly, I'll take your word for it. I read the heroic age: it was the mid to late 80's. Gruenwald understood Cap like nobody else. Byrne expanded the FF (no reboot or retro necessary), and Claremont expanded the X-Men. That said, Quasar is a better character than Nova, Valkyrie still needs the other Defenders, Beast needs to split his time to be interesting, Wolverine...like Magneto needs no first names, and Secret Avengers might be more interesting if they put Thor's hammer back in Steve Rogers' hand! But Rogers' not being Cap never ever works. See Gruenwald's run. Proof positive.

Oh, and it seems like maybe Jubilee looks like that becuz she just might become a Vamp. Marvel stated that in X-Men #1, the first story arc is gonna put the X-men up against Vampires. This will most likely be why Blade joins the line up and why Jubilee looks like that in the pic.

"The opening salvo of the new series pits the newly re-formed team against the bloodsucking undead of the Marvel Universe, a group the X-Men has some dark history with.

'It's going to be a nice fresh look at vampires,' promises Gischler. 'I think people are going to be pretty impressed.'

While the writer says the new series borrows a slice of concepts from the past, it certainly won't be a complete return to the old days. Instead, it sets up the idea of the X-Men in the new Heroic Age-the X-Men of tomorrow. But who will comprise that team?"

Anil Ricky, If they kill Cyke (even to just bring him back in a few months) I'll stop buying comics altogether, and I'm not even joking. I'm already almost to that point, and defacing the X-Men with more 'temporary casualties' especially choosing Cyke to do this with... I'll be done. Comics will forever more lose a a buyer who easily spends $100 a month on them and I'll never look back. I did the same thing with Xbox live because you can hardly play an online game anymore without hackers and cheaters cutting the fun out of it with hacks, mods, and glitch exploitation.
