Live Action Star Wars TV Show Once Again Put On Hold!

Star Wars creator George Lucas has once again cast doubt on the series ever making it's way to the small screen and it now looks like the projects future is uncertain...

Back in 2005, George Lucas announced that there was plans for a live action television show that would be set between the events of Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope which would fill in the gaps of what happenned between those two movies.

However, at a recent screening of The Empire Strikes Back, he was quizzed about the future of that project and his reply was one that will surely leave many Star Wars fans feeling disappointed.

"The live action TV show is kind of on hold because we have scripts, but we don't know how to do them."

"They literally are Star Wars, only we're going to have to try to do them at a tenth the cost. And it's a huge challenge, a lot bigger than what we thought it was gonna be."

So there you have it. Other shows such as Firefly and Battlestar Galactica have shown that the genre can work on the small screen so there's hopefully still a chance we'll see this made in the near future! Share your thoughts on this in the usual place!

Interesting. I wonder if Darth Vader will appear.
Spock - 8/5/2010, 6:02 AM
That does suck, Hell STar Trek, Star Gate could do it. So can Star Wars. You are right BSG & Firefly also worked. Whats the deal, WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO DO IT, Seriously George LUcas get a clue.
Kovacs - 8/5/2010, 6:05 AM
Not sure i would watch that...who am I kidding of course i would.I wouldn't enjoy it though...
DDD - 8/5/2010, 6:06 AM
Darn, I was looking forward to that!
But it really is extremely hard to
do sci-fi on the small-screen cuz
of the expense!

But Star Trek somehow figured out how
to do it with Next Generation and Deep
Space Nine. And of course BSG & Firefly!

BTW, Josh@ check out my Starjammers
fancast in fanfic, if ya find the time?
Shaman - 8/5/2010, 6:07 AM
That show would fail IMO. I just don't see them coming up with anything as epic as the original trilogy that could actually fit a tv series. It would be like putting water in Rye. Bleh.

My favorite Sci-Fi show of all time is flat out Babylon5!!!
ThaGUY - 8/5/2010, 6:08 AM
They really should make a series following Boba Fett from after episode 2 till 5 or something, would be quite epic if i do say so myself.
ElBicho - 8/5/2010, 6:09 AM
Why not make it a dvd only release?
Shaman - 8/5/2010, 6:11 AM
ThaGUY- AH!!! A Boba Fett series... now THAT i would watch!!! Good call :)

IMO, the Star Wars mold is just too big to fit the tv. Break it and go with the flow! BOBA FETT!!!
adwelsh78 - 8/5/2010, 6:11 AM
how much would it cost to do an advanced cg series? not like the clone wars series, but a proper one like the following three

http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-star-wars/101162

how expensive are these in relation to the cost of a tv show? because i think these would be better suited to star wars than live action. you can do everything a live action show could do, but alot more in terms of creating worlds and powers and armies etc.

This will fail, if it's not done right and George doesn't want to spend his time and money on it, otherwise, he would just make Episodes 7,8 & 9. Yes, I would love to see Boba Fett, Jabba, Mandalorians, and many other characters. There's so much that can be done with this, but the budget would have to be moderate to high on it. So don't do it at all, I don't want a half A$$ job on it. Do it right or not at all.

TO GEORGE: DON'T WRITE THE DIALOGUE PLEASE!!! Leave that up to the other writers, who can actually write.

I would love to see a show, much like Smallville, but instead of Clark Kent, we have a young Luke Skywalker and him flying his T-16 skyhopper around with his friends, Biggs, Camie, Fixer and the rest of his gang in Anchorhead.
ThunderCougarFalconBird - 8/5/2010, 6:25 AM
Never gonna happen! Is he seriously saying that money is an issue?! Other space orientated shows work fine, Star Trek (all the modern incarnations), Battlestar G! Plus the budget he'd be given per show is probably more than he had for the first movie! He is just a lazy man living off one great idea and one ok idea. If it involves any kind of work he just can't be arsed! The scripts for the last movies are proof of that! He just threw out pages of shit and sat on his fat arse while talented people worked their balls off to try and make a decent movie!
ThaGUY - 8/5/2010, 6:29 AM
He could just make a 10 part series like band of brothers, it would cost more but would totally be done right. Still all about money though so for all we know it could turn out like hannah montanna with lightsabres.............i pray that i am proved wrong haha
JoshWilding - 8/5/2010, 6:31 AM
I'd love to see this series become a reality although I have to agree that it's best if Lucas steps back from writing/directing..! I'm not sure what I'd like it to focus on to be honest, although a character like Boba Fett would be idea. Following him would not only be exciting and interesting but we'd also get an outside look at how the galaxy changes between the movies with only the occassional Jedi cameo. Add in the odd Darth Vader moment but keep things focused on the battle between the Rebels/Empire and I think it could work!

Either way, I'll watch it. I guess a show featuring a Jedi character could be cool but I'd prefer to see another side of the universe. How about a young Han Solo series? We could get some back story on him and Chewbacca, how he won the Millenium Falcon (what a perfect way for the pilot episode to end that would be!) and see more of a space western type of thing! We could have cameos from Lando and everything! And didnt Han already know Boba Fett before The Empire Strikes Back? Bring him in as a villain! Geez, all this Star Wars talk makes me want to go and rewatch the (original) movies! :P
superdog - 8/5/2010, 6:34 AM
star wars live action show, hobbit movie, red sonja, gijoe sequel being good.......what do these things have in common? THEY WILL NEVER HAPPEN
JoshWilding - 8/5/2010, 6:36 AM
DDD: Just checked it out and left you a comment bud! :)

ThaGUY: That's a great idea about it being a Band Of Brothers type thing. Sure, I'd prefer several 22 episode seasons but a show in that style would allow them to both do it properly, as you said, and tell one great story!

superdog: Lol, that's a good point actually although I'd probably add a Justice League movie to that list. I'm sure it might happen one day but not for another 10+ years! I cant be arsed to wait that long... :P
Kovacs - 8/5/2010, 6:36 AM
aww c'mon have faith in the gi joe sequal
comicb00kguy - 8/5/2010, 6:45 AM
Josh: I really like your idea of focusing this Star Wars show, if we ever get it, on the earlier days of Han Solo and Chewbacca. There are all kinds of interesting things that could be done with that.

Sci-fi on a TV budget can be done if you're not insisting on wall-to-wall state of the art effects and a cast full of big names.
Spock - 8/5/2010, 6:46 AM
I will always have Star TRek!
GUNSMITH - 8/5/2010, 6:47 AM
HE'S THINKING WAY TO EPIC...ITS TV. TV EPIC IS BATTLESTAR GALACTICA..CN YOU DO IT WITH THAT MONEY?
Christuffer - 8/5/2010, 6:50 AM
AWWWWW FIDDLESTICKS!!!!

:(
ThaGUY - 8/5/2010, 6:52 AM
Lucas does have ILM so I dont think there would be a problem with effects, he really needs to focus on the gritty side of the star wars universe not the crappy happy gungan side. The budget for episode 4 was like 200,000 wasnt it? If he was able to make something amazing back then with so little there is no reason why he cant do the same now with much more at his disposal.
ThaGUY - 8/5/2010, 6:55 AM
My bad just checked wiki its actually 11 million i was way off haha
Mileena16 - 8/5/2010, 6:58 AM
whoa! this is the first i've heard about a live action star wars show! where have i been? :P
Spock - 8/5/2010, 6:59 AM
@MIleena16 u were in a GAlaxy far FAr away!
YogiDonnie - 8/5/2010, 7:01 AM
Stinks, I was looking forward to see if Lucas could pull off something good on the TV that isn't animated.

Why not just do the Force Unleashed as a TV series? The actors are there, the script is there, plug and play. Make it a one season, 13 episodes spectacular on HBO. Then when that show has shown Lucas "how to do it" he can make his epic Advertures of Young Boba Fett series.
blueorangeny - 8/5/2010, 7:08 AM
Lucas is probably turning around his head about another trilogy. He was impressed with the Avatar filming so you never know.
Starlight - 8/5/2010, 7:21 AM
Are they complaining about the money???? Haven't they heard about BATTLESTAR GALACTICA? Man, if THEY could do it, I'm sure George Lucas can aswell.
TNTjesus - 8/5/2010, 7:36 AM
Of course I'll watch the damn thing! But Lucas needs to stop being the little man behind the curtain and trying to control everything little aspect of production. We need a GOOD director and just have him give some creative input from the snack table.
Shaman - 8/5/2010, 7:48 AM
Josh- The Han vs Fett space western is the BEST DAMN STAR WARS IDEA i've ever heard in my freakin' LIFE!!! Almost better than the original trilogy itself! Amazing call on that!!!

Tea- Footloose is an awesome song and an even better film! ;P [frick] you Hollywood for remaking it!!!
A7 - 8/5/2010, 7:48 AM

A7 - 8/5/2010, 7:49 AM

MarvelousMarty - 8/5/2010, 7:56 AM
Silly man. Lets all call him George Mucus!
Gmoney84 - 8/5/2010, 7:57 AM
I'm the same way. Love the old trilogy. The prequels ruined my life for several years. I love to argue how bad they sucked. People know not to bring up the prequels when talking to me.
LEEE777 - 8/5/2010, 8:12 AM
[frick] you GEORGE LUCAS lol, seriously been waiting for this for FIVE [frick]ING YEARS!!!!!!

Want it now FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : (

Mileena16 - 8/5/2010, 8:16 AM
@spock- LOL probably!

@tea- footloose is a great song! ;P
Mileena16 - 8/5/2010, 8:20 AM
that's strange, i really liked the prequels :|
GUNSMITH - 8/5/2010, 8:31 AM
YOU CAN ALWAYS GO BACK TO STOP MOTION AND DRAWING IN LAZERS LIKE HE STARTED, I BET THAT DIDNT COST ASMUCH AS THE CGI OF TODAY...
marvel72 - 8/5/2010, 8:35 AM
@leee777 it doesn't matter how long you wait, from the end of return of the jedi - episode 1 the phantom menance.
took lucas 16 years & it still turned to be a pile of shit.
should of just been the original trilogy & thats it.

this story only surfaced because of its the 30th annivesary of the empire strikes back this year.

empire (best star wars film)
boba fett (best charactor)
