Dean Cain Talks Lois & Clark And A Possible Return To Smallville!

The actor looks back on his time in the 90's TV show here he played the Man of Steel, shares his thoughts on Teri Hatcher's Smallville cameo and talks about a possible return of the villainous Curtis Knox...

Dean Cain, who played Clark Kent on Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman back in the 1990's, was asked by On The Red Carpet recently whether he's keen on reprising the role of Dr. Curtis Knox in Smallville and here's what he had to say.

"My character is immortal. He wasn't killed, so I could return but they haven't contacted me yet." From that comment, it looks unlikely we'll see him back for this final season, but the same can't be said for his former co-star Teri Hatcher who has a guest role later this year.

When asked about this, the actor revealed that he's pleased she'll be playing the mother of Lois Lane: "I'm glad Teri's going to be on...because I love that with the whole Superman folklore, they are keeping everyone in there."

He also finished by saying that his role on Lois & Clark remains the best one of his career, "I think playing Clark Kent was my favourite role, because it was the biggest role, and it was a very personal role in that sense."

Smallville continues on Fridays at 8/7c on The CW.

Anyways, I think if they had called him Vandal Savage instead of Curtis Knox, people would have been more eager to see him again. Hopefully they come up with the idea that Curtis was just his alias, and he is really Vandal Savage, with beard and all.

Always took the heat from fans but I LOVED the damn show, it was modern, believable in a way and it showed us our first REAL live-action Lex with more complicated plans rather than the lame real-estate bullshit. I mean right from the first episode Lex planned to hijack the space program and put his own in its place, thereby making millions from the vaccines produced. He went more in line with the animated Lex of hiding his true nature from Metropolis. Back to Dean though, he was great and I hope he will return. And Teri was a WAY hotter lois than that ugly Margot Kidder. No disrespect but damn Lois is supposed to be hot, not ugly. I say Chris Reeve and Dean Cain were both good in their own ways. But Dean Cain brought us the more modern/more believable Superman/Clark Kent. And I concur with "loaganoneil" that he wasn't the bumbling geek anymore, we all get tired of that crap. It was good to finally see a competent Clark Kent who was suave. The show was very much like STAS in a way (Superman: The Animated Series)

I LOVE the fact that Superman was a role that Clark played instead of the other way around like Chris Reeve did with Clark. Clark was this funny, lovable country guy that just wanted to make it in a big city and Superman was this idea, this image that he put on for people to emulate. But deep down, Clark was very down to earth and no one could have figured that Clark was the big blue boyscout of a perfect specimen because he was raised by humans and is as much flawed as we are. How could he normally be Kryptonian when he was raised from very early childhood, to be human. Lois & Clark was definitely an improvement on the source from my POV. The show also gave much more importance to The Kents, having been a part of his whole life, and showcasing where his true values came from. Not from a dying planet filled with his dead relatives he never knew but from the heartland of Smallville where he grew up to be just as caring, loving and interesting as the Kents were. This i could relate to much more than any other incarnation of Superman. And Dean Cain was a very good actor for the little acting background he had. He convinced me in every single scene. He was Superman! LP4 & Loganoneil- AMEN!

From the first episode where Lois walked in on Clark in a towel and practically fell over, it was apparent to me that this was gonna be a different take on Superman. It was absurd to think that no one would ever figure out that Clark was hot, even with those glasses. Smallville, as well, gave up on trying to make Clark out to be anything than what he was, a great looking guy in a small town ... I mean they got an Abcrombie model to play him! I have always hated the way Clark Kent gets played in the movies, especially Chris Reeve's portrayal of him, which was downright embarrassing. Lois would NEVER all in love with THAT clark kent, it would be impossible that anyone but a mail order bride or a mormon polygamy set up would ever go out with that guy. So good job Dean Cain, besides Tom Welling, you will always stick out in my mind on the right way to play clark kent.

I looked up to both- Chris Reeve's Superman as being everything I WISH I could amount to but most likely never could. Dean Cain's Superman as being the friendly neighborhood hero just down the street. But overall I loved both interpretations, I just looked to Dean Cain's as being more relatable in a sense...which as a kid was good for me. Reeve WAS the gold-standard though for the character. But Dean Cain was really [frick]en good Superman ESPECIALLY as Clark Kent.

	LP4 - 10/8/2010, 11:42 AM Login to report abuse But in terms of their Lex Luthors, I'd say John Shea was WAAAAAY better than Gene Hackman. Hackman was way too campy and always after real-estate. John Shea's Lex was a real killer and cold-blooded and had much more diverse schemes. He was a corrupt CEO of Lexcorp and hid his evil ways from the public eye, that is exactly how Lex SHOULD HAVE BEEN in the damn movies. Plus it was cool at the end of season 1 when John Shea's Lex said before killing himself "Lex Luthor will not live in a cage!!" He was an awesome Lex and one of my favorites. JOHN SHEA FTW!!!

I used to watch the show as a kid every day after school and although I can't really remember a lot of the finer details, I do recall both Cain and Hatcher being brilliant in their respective roles...think I'll try and find a few episodes to watch online tonight actually!

	m2prod - 10/8/2010, 1:46 PM Login to report abuse Wow, guess I'm in the minority here. I thought Lois and Clark was embarrassingly trite and inane. I thought Teri Hatcher was fine but Dean Cain was totally miscast. The high, whiney voice was not my idea of Superman. The show got worse with each episode. By the final season I could hardly watch more than 5 minutes at a time. And I know it's a small point, but the "S" shield was poorly executed. Jeez, why didn't they get a graphic artist to lay it out?

Cain was great, he was more relatable...he wasn't sooooo "perfect" he made mistakes as Superman and he took his romance with Lois to the next level by being honest with her. Great show and great old memories.

He's also smaller than me, which makes it very unbelievable for me to accept him as Superman. That's just me though and I am no mammoth guy like DDD. Every movie I have attempted to watch him in since has been just lame with a capital "L". The guy can't act much better than Routh can. :-P

Dean did a damn decent job as Superman. I believed him as both Clark Kent and Superman. Remember, the show wasn't really about Superman saving the world all the time, it was about his relationship with Lois and trying to balance his two lives.

	Bartman87 - 10/9/2010, 2:26 PM Login to report abuse I started watching this show from the beginning again since I was unable to watch it when it first came out (I was stationed in Panama) it is good with some good casting of villains such as John Shea as Lex it did have some corny episodes but the story of Lois and Clark was the basis of the show. I like the fact that Clark isn't shown as a bumbling fool the whole series and can actually think for himself.
