POLL: How Would You Feel If Marvel Obtained The Rights To Superman? POLL: How Would You Feel If Marvel Obtained The Rights To Superman?

As I read the latest chapter of the ongoing battle between Warner Bros and the families of Shuster and Siegel, I got to thinking. What if the seemingly impossible happenned and Warner Bros/DC ended up losing the rights? What would the relatives of the creators do with Superman? Let's put logic to one side for a moment and just imagine that they sold them to Marvel/Disney.

The copyright for Superman ends in 2013 and it's this that Shuster's nephew and Siegel's wife and daughter are battling for. The reason I said to put logic aside was because I'm sure there is plenty of legal mumbo jumbo pertaining to the rights of logos and names and the family probably wouldnt be able to just auction the character off to the highest bidder. On the other hand, maybe they could.

Regardless, I came up with this poll to find out what you guys would think of this. What if Superman joined the Avengers? Can you imagine him battling alongside Captain America, Iron Man and Thor? Would he find his place in the Marvel Universe and what kind of state would the DC one be left in without him? Can you see him making his way to the big screen in a future Avengers movie? Vote below and share your thoughts in the usual place!

Providing we get a decent amount of votes, the results of this poll will be announced in three days time on Sunday 21st! Thanks for reading.

It would never happen...

But I love DC & MARVEL so cool, it'll be [frick]ing amazing if he ever led the AVENGERS! : P

That would be wrong. Superman is the face of DC. It's like if SEGA were to buy the rights to Mario. It just wouldn't work.

If DC looses Superman it will be a real tragedy.

HAHA I thought I was the only one who thought about that, would be pretty weird having Superman on Marvel, he would steal Captain America and Iron Man Light on The Avengers comics for sure :P.
Would be pretty cool I think
or not...

I know it's a little silly, but who knows? This really could happen as Intruder points out above! Oh man, just imagine Clark Kent working at The Daily Bugle and Superman hanging out at the Avengers Mansion. His place is with DC, but I'd actually love to see him in the Marvel Universe! :)

Good stuffJosh and that is indeed a cool what if. BUT! I don't think Marvel would be too interested in him to tell the truth. I don't really think they would ever find a comfortable place for him in the Marvel Universe.

Their top level super beings are already decades old and well established. The last character of that power level that they tried to introduce was The Sentry and there really was no place for him. We already have Thor, The Silver Surfer and a few others at the top of the Marvel food chain. I just don't think it would work. I also think the negativity from fans would be outlandish.

Hell, they have had the rights to Marvelman for some time now and they are still trying to figure out where and when to fit him in. They may end up setting him outside of Marvel continuity.

He just wouldn't fit. Superman's strength goes beyond Marvel's remote touch of reality. What would he do, fight Galactus (not Jim) every month?

HAWKS: Thanks bud, and very interesting points. To be honest, I'd not really thought of that and they more than likely would really struggle to find a place for him. Would they not be interested in buying him though? I have a feeling that the financial benefits in the long run would convince them to force him into the Marvel universe regardless of negative fan feedback as he's such an iconic (read: $$$$$) character! I'd forgotten about Marvelman though...I guess these sorts of characters really dont have a place alongside the likes of Spider-Man and Thor!

No way.
Just no way.
Plus, it is just way too complicated to happen.
A lot of the DC universe is tied into Superman, it would be almost impossible to sell just the one character.
They would have to sell all of DC to Disney.

i'm not that bothered,if marvel got superman we would definetly get a superman vs hulk movie.

but i really couldn't give a shit,he can stay at dc he a good character but marvel have got better ones.

Well at least we can always count on Blee for a little bile. Comforting in a way I suppose.

Personally I would love to see the family get the rights, sell them to someone, and then watch the Character disappear into the mists. Take Superman out of the DCU and he becomes just a silly guy in tights who has hung on well past his time.

Marvel would not want him. Sorry but I don't see it.

i laugh when i read the title of this because i imagined so many people being pissed off lol, but i gotta say, it would be weird, Marvel characters are grounded in reality, and superman is THE idea superhero. problem is, i dont think it would just fit!i just dont kno....

hell it would be amazing to see supes and thor battle it out and then silver surfer would come out of no where whoop both there asses, honestly i dont give a damn long as i get to see a superman movie,if DC do lose Superman then there kinda screwd, not going to lie it would be interesting seeing clark kent working in the daily bugle, who knows the creator family could create a whole new comic label and make supes the first character of that universe, well whatever happens it sure is going to be interesting

SmokinIndo - 11/18/2010, 2:12 PM
Honestly, if Marvel buys Superman, then they might as well be dragging their massive penis all over Geoff Johns' face. THAT'S WHAT YOU GET FOR TRASH-TALKING MARVEL!

But there's another possibility. What if Marvel bought the rights to Superman and then sold them to DC at half the price? I think DC and its fans would be forever in Marvel's debt.
LEEE777
LEEE777 - 11/18/2010, 2:15 PM

Yeah but suits are mainly a$$holes, doubt they'd ever do that for DC?

Not in the Real world anyways.

I remember someone telling me that Marvel has gone on record saying they will not acquire the rights to superman, but that doesn't stop other independent comic companies. Superman vs Spawn anyone?

DukeAcureds - 11/18/2010, 2:16 PM
It would be interesting if Marvel got him. It would certainly be a "turn-up for the books".
But I don't see Marvel buying him, if DC can't. WB are bigger than Disney, right?
@Destroyer - I never thought I'd live to see Sonic on a Nintendo platform. What the [frick] happened there?
Hawksblueyes
Hawksblueyes - 11/18/2010, 2:16 PM
Josh & Intruder: Maybe I used the wrong words with not interested. Maybe they would think it best not to touch him.

Is he iconic? Hell yes but you would lose much of his marketability right off the bat. His back story - gone. Every other famous hero he is friends with - gone. Every iconic villain he has faced - gone. His decades old fan base - gone.

What you would have left is a new comic hero with an old name and powers and no place for him. Any story they could place him in wouldn't even add up to a comic book version of Smallville (and we know what most Sups fans think of that show).

He is a money making machine (as is). He is not much of anything if you take everything about him away (including his loyal fans).
Frogman
Frogman - 11/18/2010, 2:16 PM
how could it happen? Superman wouldn't become a Marvel character. He'd still be in DC comics, WB just couldn't make any films. Marvel/Disney would make the films but he'd still be a DC character in the comics at least. They couldn't logically introduce him into their marvel universe.

Marvel is too REAL for Superman to be permanently a part of.
Angelus
Angelus - 11/18/2010, 2:19 PM
It wont happen. Marvel wouldnt buy Superman because he would arguably destroy the whole comicbook story there. He would put the Avengers in shadow. WB/DC and Siegel family will probably come to an arrangement.

Superman is the ground, no the rock, no the very existence DC stands on. He isnt just a superhero, he is a true icon. He and Batman are the most known superheroes ever, and for a reason. What would Bats be without him? How would the JLA be without the incorruptible, the most righteous servant of good and humanity there is?
Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern are the most essential heroes they have but Superman is the centerpiece. The main superhero by any standards. Arguably the single greatest superhero ever in the history of comics. No way WB/DC would allow the Siegel to let him end up in the wrong hands. They got enough money to make the Siegels happy.

BMP!

Marikina - 11/18/2010, 2:19 PM
Well, I don't know about the comics front, but I damn sure know Disney and Marvel Studios would definitely get Superman out of the cinematic rut Warner Bros has stuck him in for the last 30 years.
odinson11
odinson11 - 11/18/2010, 2:21 PM
Maybe it would be a good thing, marvel would definitely change him out of that gay costume. If it does happen you might as well put up a going out of biz sign at dc

LEEE777 - 11/18/2010, 2:22 PM
It wouldn't be the end of DC anyways...

They have more rich and colorful characters than Marvels ever had!

Plus they still got CAPTAIN MARVEL! =
