As someone who lives in the UK but finds travelling all the way to San Diego a little bit of a hassle, I was very excited when rumours began circulating a few weeks back that the critically acclaimed creator of The Ultimates, Kick-Ass and Nemesis had plans to bring an event of the same scale to the UK. Well, today it was made official:

In an interview with Empire Online, Millar revealed the following about the upcoming event:

"The idea behind Kapow! is to bring the San Diego experience to Central London. All the studios have a massive presence here in the UK, dozens of the world's biggest comic creators are here and most of the comic-book movie adaptations are being filmed just up the road."

"You've got my Kick-Ass co-creator John Romita Jr, Batman artist Frank Quitely, Leinil Yu, Pat Mills, Kev O'Neill, Bryan Hitch, Brian Bolland, Dave Gibbons and pretty much every big-selling comic book writer and artist living in the UK, as well as a panel for my mag, Clint!"

"The Stan Lee Awards are a tribute to a man who, along with Jack Kirby, is the most significant and influential comic book creator the world has ever known. "He's our Walt Disney. We wanted to honour him with a big international ceremony. This is the comic-book Oscars..."

Sounds pretty awesome, huh? The event will take place from April 9 - 10 next year and tickets are already available via the official Kapow! website which you can find by clicking HERE!

Thank you Mark Millar. This is exactly what the UK has desperately needed for a long time. I have a feeling that it'll be a big success and we'll see the likes of Marvel Studios and DC there within the next few years. (if they're not already signed up to go) Regardless, I'll be buying my tickets later this week!

This is the best thing Mark Millar has ever done. London FIlm and Comic Con is complete rubbish (4 COMIC GUESTS FOR 2010 ARE YOU KIDDING!?) and MCMexpo is getting there but its a lot more indie comic people than big names.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
