Roaring to life through WBA and Studio4°C’s use of the Japanese animated artistry of anime, 'ThunderCats' characters Lion-O, Mumm-Ra, Panthro, Cheetara and others will spring off the screen with realistic cat-like characteristics inconceivable in previous incarnations.

The new 'ThunderCats' will appeal to viewers who have loved the characters all their lives as well as young newcomers to the franchise. A sweeping tale combining swords and science and boasting ferocious battles with the highest of stakes, the grand origin story of Prince Lion-O’s ascension to the throne – and of those who would thwart his destiny at any cost – takes on epic dimensions in this sharp new telling. As the forces of good and evil battle each other in the quest for the fabled Stones of Power, Lion-O and his champions learn valuable lessons of loyalty, honor and mortality in every episode.

Thanks to the eagle eyed guys over at Bleeding Cool we have our first look at the trailer for the upcoming animated series. Head on over to the site for a series of screencaps from the following footage.

Ceejay - 2/26/2011, 9:11 AM
I pray they produce a worthy opening credit montage to honour the original which was practically picture perfect!
sheebz - 2/26/2011, 9:20 AM

Looks good. Anyone know when this is coming out??
starscream4president - 2/26/2011, 9:27 AM
Very skeptic about it. Looks like it's been seriously toned down for the kids. If it's like "Last airbender" kinda action, I'll watch.
Godzillafart - 2/26/2011, 9:33 AM
I can't decide which is a bigger "who cares", this or Dylan Dog. I am so sick of anime style animation.
marvel72 - 2/26/2011, 9:33 AM
it won't be as good as the original, but it sill looks watchable.
jazzman - 2/26/2011, 9:39 AM
wheres the frick is Panthro
JULEZ13 - 2/26/2011, 9:44 AM
I also hate that it's in anime style but this show looks okay. I wish they would've made Lion-O look just as old as Cheetara and Tigra and give him the broad chin he had in the original, but oh well. =[ I will give it a shot. When does it start so I can put it in my schedule? Cuz I will forget.
SHO1138 - 2/26/2011, 9:46 AM
Hope it's as good as the He-Man reboot was.
Teois42 - 2/26/2011, 9:53 AM

grifdeadpoolteabag - 2/26/2011, 9:57 AM
I like how they chose to make the universe much richer than the original which was distinctly thin and formulaic in many places.
comic2004 - 2/26/2011, 10:05 AM
It Looks hot!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bandrews1 - 2/26/2011, 10:44 AM

It looks good and looks like what this generation of kids would get into! Its a great way to keep the franchise alive instead of showing them the original, lets be honest, if most of the kids that watch Cartoonnetwork now watched the original, they wouldn't pay it any attention, besides the anime-ish design is whats 'hip' these days for cartoons.
MANofSHAZAM - 2/26/2011, 11:01 AM

j2cool2 - 2/26/2011, 12:15 PM
I don't understand why people have such contempt for the anime style when the original show was done in that style, and since American style animation isn't really better. There are very few American animated cartoons that can stand up to those animated in Asia in the anime style. In fact, ALL the great cartoons of 80's(the golden era [ inlcluding American produced ie. G.I. Joe, ghostbusters, TMNT etc]), the one's a lot of us grew up watching, were animated in Japan, in the anime style. In my opinion when done correctly the style is much better than American animation. I think our style tends to be a bit bland with very odd bulky porportions, and it just looks cheaper. Ben10 being a prime example of this(big chest little legs, very little shadow and highlight representation, very generic). Batman and justice league had awesome storylines, but the animation, to me, was never anything standout. I'll admit there are some cartoons that don't do the style justice, mostly dealing with the Yu-gi-oh/pokeman card cartoon revolution, but for the most part cartoons utilizing elements of anime tend to look better. Avatar was probably the best looking cartoon we've produced in over a decade and that was animated in korea with heavy anime elements. Bottom line, anime influenced=better looking cartoon.
antariss - 2/26/2011, 12:17 PM
I thought it looked pretty awesome...I was a sceptic at first. I watched and loved the Thundercat's when it was first aired and am in my early 30's so I was a bit cautious about a 're-imagining'. However, I think it is faithful enough to the original aesthetically i.e you can still recognise the major characters.

About the anime style issue; I don't think people realise that the original cartoon was animated in Japan and had a japanese aesthetic, it looked nothing like any other american cartoon (except for the ones made in Japan and sold in the US) so I don't understand this criticism. Compare original T'Cats to He-Man to see what I mean.

And as for the comment on it being dumbed down for kids???? Thundercat's was a kids tv show with some ludicrous story lines, have you seen the show recently? Check it out on youtube, it doesn't date too well...
RolandOfGilead - 2/26/2011, 12:29 PM
I cannot wait! [frick]ing epic!
Rockstar96 - 2/26/2011, 1:10 PM
Can't wait! Thunder,Thunder,Thundercats! Hooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
GUNGRAVE1 - 2/26/2011, 1:10 PM
It looks alright.
Gauntlet - 2/26/2011, 1:46 PM
Needs more me.
GUNGRAVE1 - 2/26/2011, 1:59 PM
It's different they should have made a anime movie first.
Thelastdalek - 2/26/2011, 3:15 PM
Why people keep saying its to anime style when it isnt anime style. Yound justice looked more like anime then this. hell the origonal Thundercats was anime like its animtion style (although not the art style) then this.

On the trailer itself its kind of meh. But I havnt scene enough to judge it.

GUNSMITH - 2/26/2011, 3:35 PM
I LIKE IT..THEYRE GOING FOR EPIC MOVIE
KC - 2/26/2011, 3:52 PM
Awesome just [frick]ing awesome
animeex - 2/26/2011, 4:32 PM
Nice! I am surprised Cartoon Network is putting this on... They have alot of crap anymore. Also seeing it is anime-ish really surprises me. They have a tendency to pick on anime even though back in the day it is what really made their station popular... That and Johnny Bravo. LOL!
Sephiroth - 2/26/2011, 4:55 PM
i'm really liking the animation, it looks like there on thundera for the most part.
orin - 2/26/2011, 5:02 PM
People who complain about the "new" "anime" style, utterly FAIL to understand that the original 80s show was done in 80s anime style.

this is just following the tradition the original started.
NextHero08 - 2/26/2011, 5:16 PM
Loin-O look like a lil [female dog]. He's like the peter parker version Lion-O
JayOh - 2/26/2011, 5:43 PM
Looks cool; can't wait…has a "Ultimate" ThunderCats feel.
TheDemonHunter - 2/26/2011, 7:09 PM
Meh.... I far prefer the look of the original to this.
NubaX - 2/26/2011, 11:54 PM
This Lion o looks to Boyish or something. He isn't as Manly as the originaly. He just doesn't look like he'll have that command voice when he says "THUNDERCATS HO..."

And if he does it doesn't match his Face. His Hair could be Fuller too.

This "Lion o" looks more like Link from Ledgend of Zelda.

I mean... Imay catch it on youtube just to check it out but it doesn't really excite me like the Original.
jaybear - 2/27/2011, 7:04 AM
after that, i was like: hmmm...
