While it was pretty obvious that former stars Ben Affleck, Jennifer Garner and Colin Farrell (to name just a few) would not be back in their respective roles for the new movie,
EW have now confirmed it, as you can see in the following excerpt from the site:
Director David Slade has signed on to direct a new Daredevil movie that will continue the story of the blind superhero established in 2003′s Daredevil, but feature a brand new cast (i.e., no Ben Affleck or Jennifer Garner).
Meanwhile, in something that was missed in last nights report from
Variety, the site reveals how Fox were able to hold on to the rights without having made a movie for seven years. For anyone hoping to see any of the characters not owned by Marvel Studios reverting back to them, I think this makes it clear that it's not something we'll see happen any time soon!
Fox retained "Daredevil" rights by keeping the project in development over the years; had it not, rights would've reverted to Marvel Studios, which Disney acquired for $4 billion in 2009. Same goes for "Fantastic Four," for which Fox is eyeing new installments.
Pretty crafty, eh? Can't blame them for not wanting to lose potentially multi-million dollar franchises though, and with Fox seemingly turning over a new leaf when it comes to comic book movies, it might not be a bad thing to have more than just Marvel Studios making these things!
