PRESS RELEASE:

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that Oscar® winner Marion Cotillard (“La Vie en Rose”) and Joseph Gordon-Levitt have joined the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” the epic conclusion to the Dark Knight legend.

Cotillard will appear as Miranda Tate, a Wayne Enterprises board member eager to help a still-grieving Bruce Wayne resume his father’s philanthropic endeavors for Gotham.

Gordon-Levitt will play John Blake, a Gotham City beat cop assigned to special duty under the command of Commissioner Gordon.

The film reunites the actors with Christopher Nolan, who recently directed them in the award-winning blockbuster “Inception.”

The director stated, "When you collaborate with people as talented as Marion and Joe, it comes as no surprise that you would want to repeat the experience. I immediately thought of them for the roles of Miranda and Blake, and I am looking forward to working with both of them again."

Heading the cast of “The Dark Knight Rises,” Christian Bale stars as Bruce Wayne/Batman. The main cast also includes Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle and Tom Hardy as Bane.

Nolan will direct the film from a screenplay he wrote with Jonathan Nolan, from a story by Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer. Christopher Nolan will also produce the film with his longtime producing partner, Emma Thomas, and Charles Roven.

John Blake and Miranda Tate? While it's not hard to believe that Christopher Nolan wants to fill the movie with as many quality actors as possible, these seem like two very minor roles for two big stars. Could it be a cover? Liam Neeson's cover was Henry Ducard, until he was later revealed as Ra's Al Ghul. Could the same be true here? Share your thoughts in the usual place!

With an all star cast which includes Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman, Michael Caine as Alfred Pennyworth, Garly Oldman as Jim Gordon, Tom Hardy as Bane and Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle, The Dark Knight Rises is set to be released on July 20, 2012!

DANGIT! I had to interrupt my algebra right when I heard this just so I could put it up. Oh well...
And I'm honestly not impressed with the casting choices.
jamedog - 4/19/2011, 11:01 AM
Though the reveal of who they're playing is kinda underwhelming, on the plus side it means that this film won't be cluttered with tons of villains (something I was fearing).

But I'm still sensing a bit of a smoke screen here, especially with Cotillard's character. With the recent casting of a young Ras Al Ghul in a flashback, it seems obvious that Talia would be in this. I wouldn't be surprised if her character is Talia trying to get close to Bruce
RoscoeFolgers - 4/19/2011, 11:02 AM
@PaulRom- Of course you aren't, you don't know anything about the characters yet.
StrangerX - 4/19/2011, 11:03 AM
Oh shit!! I guess everyone was wrong. Shit he would have been a cool Falcone
TheQuestion - 4/19/2011, 11:03 AM
I smell a cover-up. JGL's role seem legit, but Cotillard's is likely Talia Al Ghul undercover, similar to the Ducard/Al Ghul set up in Batman Begins. Either way, I'm glad these two are officially in. This is shaping up to be one amazing cast.
superotherside - 4/19/2011, 11:05 AM
at least we don't have to guess anymore :)
hellenkeller420 - 4/19/2011, 11:06 AM
Not WHAT I HAD HOPED FOR AT ALL
hellenkeller420 - 4/19/2011, 11:07 AM
he would of been epic for black mask
CBK - 4/19/2011, 11:08 AM
I smell bullshit on Nolan's part, I hope they end up being cover ID's for Talia and Deadshot.
soaponapope - 4/19/2011, 11:09 AM
no taila :(

I knew Gordon Levitt wasn't Alberto falcone though... That was just silly and never made sense to me. Maybe he is going to be the idealist rookie cop who is obsessed with hunting down bats.
RunDTC - 4/19/2011, 11:09 AM
dang, I just posted this. I was stoked to find it too.
WolvieCBM - 4/19/2011, 11:10 AM
Those roles are definitely some sort of a cover for much bigger characters in the film. It must be! Great find Josh!
JatevinM - 4/19/2011, 11:10 AM
I'm fine with these but I think he wouldve made an epic Black mask.
Durango95 - 4/19/2011, 11:10 AM
meh...i was hoping for falcone or black mask
Ethic - 4/19/2011, 11:10 AM
I'M BETTING Miranda Tate is a false alias for Talia.

Remember what Ra's said
"You are defending a system so corrupt, we have infiltrated every level of its infrastructure"

And who knows, Levitt could be playing a double identity also, but we shall have to wait and see! =D
dellamorte1872 - 4/19/2011, 11:11 AM
i totally agree with THEQUESTION
LP4 - 4/19/2011, 11:11 AM
This is a huge letdown
AlReg - 4/19/2011, 11:12 AM
Nolan hasn't been one of those CBM directors to use fake names the Levitt and Cotillard situations remind me of how people were assuming Anthony Michael Hall and Sarah Jayne Dunn were going to play comic book character roles.
DBeck - 4/19/2011, 11:13 AM
JediMasterJimMorrison - 4/19/2011, 11:13 AM
You know, Joseph Gordon Levitt still looks like a 20 year old to me.
DukeAcureds - 4/19/2011, 11:13 AM
Well. Shit. Didn't see that coming at all. Especially after JettD said something about it being either Black Mask or Holiday. Guess not. Y'all are probably right about the smokescreen. It seemed like that to me, too. She could definately be Talia. But then again, it does make sense that she want him to take up his fathers philanthropic duties as that would be one way to end the franchise and make Bruce decide too stop being Batman. Not the best way to end it. Knightsend or the death of Jason Todd would be better, but...
Do we know for a fact that Ra's Al Ghul is in this?
I mean, do we KNOW? Did we get a press release about it?
Maia87 - 4/19/2011, 11:14 AM
Damn! Too many actors...
l0rdleg0las - 4/19/2011, 11:15 AM
i am praying for a smokescreen here. 2 really good actors in roles that don't seem all that important. it is like they are in it just for the sake of being in a batman movie. also what was all the secrecy about with these 2, they are in nothing roles.
WellDrawn - 4/19/2011, 11:15 AM
Seems a little strange that big name stars like these would simply be supporting roles, unless they're double identities.... for now, at leat everyone can shut up about Rises having 18 villains.

Would still LOVE to see JGL as Black Mask tho.
PapaMidnight - 4/19/2011, 11:16 AM
I didn't see that coming... well, I once could imagined JGL playing a good guy in this flick, but all indicates he would be Falcone. But, ok... alright! Miranda Tate = love interest. Blake maybe a representation of Max Cort? Well, surely Nolan will bring us an U-turn for him!
DukeAcureds - 4/19/2011, 11:18 AM
I wasn't aware that Goyer was not on script duties for this one either. It will suck as bad as The Dark Knight. Let Goyer write the script and you've got a perfect Bat-flick.
ecksmanfan - 4/19/2011, 11:19 AM
I can't imagine him casting these two in such roles. I can't help but agree that these are covers for larger roles. I know he likes to use big names, but that's a bit much I think.
Frogman - 4/19/2011, 11:19 AM
This isn't a let down at all, everyone complains that theres too many villains, now they're confirmed to not be villains and everyone complains... (everyone is admittedly generalising) at least we know the film won't just be Batman against 50 undeveloped villains.
dellamorte1872 - 4/19/2011, 11:20 AM
I THINK jgl'S IS LEGIT, tate = talia tho i bet same as DUCARD = RAS
marvel72 - 4/19/2011, 11:21 AM
peoples predictions all wrong,oh well.
Godzillafart - 4/19/2011, 11:23 AM
Hmmm. He sure looks like the Riddler...although I think more villians would be a mistake.
DorritoSaur - 4/19/2011, 11:24 AM
We all just got trolled...
GinGuilt - 4/19/2011, 11:24 AM
LOL what a let down.

But,seriously,IS THERE ANY CHANCE THIS MOVIE WILL BE LESS THAN AWESOME?! Don't think so. They can cast Charlie Sheen as Robin and I would still be sure it would be genious.
Fogs - 4/19/2011, 11:24 AM
Looks like once again Nolan is going to stick to the police thriller rather than a more comic book fan pleasing story.

The news aren't promising, but how not to trust Nolan?
patriautism - 4/19/2011, 11:25 AM
@marvel72 My prediction was totally right! I totally called the Gordon-Levitt as a special duties cop on Gordon's team.
I am the next Nostradamus! I admit I was lost on who Cotillard was playing, though.
TayDee - 4/19/2011, 11:27 AM
I guess all the damn TDKR speculation on who's playing who can stop now
bilthebullet - 4/19/2011, 11:28 AM
@ DukeAcurds

"It will suck as bad as The Dark Knight"?

Seriously? First off, Goyer did story for The Dark Knight. Second, Blade Trinity is what you get when Goyer writes and directs, while Inception is what you get when Nolan does it. I love Goyer, he has done some great stuff, but your facts are all over the place.
theboywonder - 4/19/2011, 11:29 AM
I met her. She's smoking hot and super nice too. Its ok to make up characters, I just wish that they'd used Bullock tho if they really needed a cop. And i wanted alberto falcone!!!!!! Would have rounded off the story nicely
jazzman - 4/19/2011, 11:31 AM
DukeAcureds

what are you talking about. Goyer should never write the script he only good at storyboarding he got ideas but his not a good writter. Chris Nolan and his brother wrote the script to the TDK based on Goyer idea. David Goyer screen writting is very poor.

@dellamorte1872

tate was not in the comics but Henri Ducard is from the Batman comics.

@Josh Wilding

dont think its the same as Henri Ducard/Ra's Al Ghul situation. remember both of these name characters are in the comics.

but John Blake and Miranda Tate could be characters he made up for the movie or the same situation as actress Monique Gabriela Curnen playing the character Anna Ramirez. Anna Ramirez in TDK shares many similarities to Renee Montoya, such as being of Hispanic descent and being hand-selected by Gordon for the Major Case Squad.

DukeAcureds - 4/19/2011, 11:34 AM
TayD@ Not so fast. Here's some:
Tate is Talia. Blake is Ra's. Betcha. Betcha two fresh fish.
Or...
JGL is CATMAN!!!
(Hear me out) The film, we are told, is about Bruce following in his father's footsteps and giving up the mantle of the Bat. But he can't leave Gotham unprotected (of course Talia/ Tate wants him to give up being Batman so that the League of Shadows can get back on with their plans for Gotham City and she can finally follow in her father's footsteps). John Blake is also trying to follow in his fathers footsteps by being a cop. Or to make up for his father's crimes as Catman, but will eventually stop being a cop and become Catman, taking over from Batman as the protector of Gotham City and foiling the plans of Talia, Bane and the League of Shadows. Bane will have, at this point, rendered Batman broken.
This all makes sense now. I've figured it out.
John Blake is the son of Thomas Blake a.k.a. Catman.
Catman and Catwoman!
spideyboy - 4/19/2011, 11:35 AM
Thank God! I was getting worried about this movie having too many villains with no Robin/Nightwing (even though Batman could handle it himself).
WellDrawn - 4/19/2011, 11:37 AM
@Bilthebullet - let's not forget about Goyer's Nick Fury movie starring none other than the Hoff -

TDKR11 - 4/19/2011, 11:38 AM
Now we know who JBL is playing I seriously doubt he's playing a hidden character like some are saying. My guess a few months ago was kind of close I thought he be the new DA who's seriously trying to take Batman Down w.GCPD task forc, but hey I still can't wait for this movie.

As for Marion Cotillard I still believe she's playing the role of Talia Al Ghul in the disguise of Miranda Tate to get close to Bruce like Ras did in Batman Begins. I would be disappointed if Tali Al Ghul never shows up in this movie because its been announce about the young Ras Al Ghul in the movie.
AlexDeLarge87 - 4/19/2011, 11:40 AM
It will do!:)

Bane is the main villain anyway so i think he needs most of the screentime like Joker before him.

Miranda Tate definitely sounds like a cover up for Talia thou!
And Gordon-Levitt as John Blake definitely sounds like representation of Max Cort. But i doubt he will be a villain. Thou it would be cool to see him as Deadshot or Night Scourge

Now we just need Hugo Strange who i think should be Bane´s supplier and Talia´s courier like Scarecrow for Ra´s in the first movie (If Talia truelly is in this movie).
Yourdaddydevilandlord - 4/19/2011, 11:43 AM
I hadn't heard confirmation on Bane before this, I guess he will just be an early encounter and not a main adversary? I will just trust Nolan until he proves me wrong. Do you see how that works FOX? See, I trust Nolan to do something good just as I trust Fox to do something bad. I hope only Fox proves me wrong. Watch X-2 again, compare it with X-3(X-2 wins, I hope you at least know that), kill Halle Berry, buy an industrial supply of fake blood, and make a great X-4. Or Reboot Wolverine and do Weapon X right, instead of an hour of him laying in bed with a fully covered Silver Fox, how about him being programmed into a killing machine(not with a magic bullet, goddamn I can't believe that rumor turned out to be true)for 50 minutes and then one, 10 minute, full porn scene with Silver Fox(see The Watchmen). I might have to stop by Hollywood on my way back from the Big Four this weekend to smack some fools down with my thrash metal fueled, nerd rage!!!!!!
But I digress.... I trust Nolan to do something badass, I just hope he isn't sick of Batman to the point he screws this one up so he doesn't feel pressured to make another one.....eww, I don't like that scenario.

That's is origin anyways...
JoshWilding - 4/19/2011, 11:44 AM
I'm not too bothered whether it's a cover or not. We already have an amazing cast which includes characters like Catwoman and Bane...I'm just grateful Nolan is filling out the minor roles with actors equally as great as those in the major ones.
DukeAcureds - 4/19/2011, 11:46 AM
bitthebullet@ Okay, I'll admit that Inception was a masterpiece and Blade Trinity was a piece of shit (a fun piece of shit, but all the same). Nolan is ther better filmmaker. But not only is Goyer the better writer, but he is much more suited to handling the Batman. Nolan doesn't have enough respect for the character. Dark Knight was like a cartoon with a bit of threatening violence. Batman Begins was just a good film. Only a few lines were performed like a pantomome in Begins, but Dark Knight was all panto all the time. It was a big ham and cheese sandwich. At least the Adam West show was done for shits and giggles. Also Begins had a better structure, characterisation and perfect fanboy referances all carefully woven in.
bilthebullet - 4/19/2011, 11:47 AM
@WellDrawn

lol. That's what I'm talking about. He's very talented but needs guidance.
WellDrawn - 4/19/2011, 11:47 AM
@ TheGODDAMNSUPERGUY / bilthebullet - I agree, Goyer's capable of great stuff, but he needs the likes of the Nolan's to reign him in and keeping him from going over the top.
