Wondering why this is such fantastic news? Well, as I'm sure many of you will already know, ILM are responsible for the VFX seen in the likes of the Star Wars and Harry Potter franchises as well as Marvel Studios' Iron Man and Iron Man 2. So, the same company who have brought the Armored Avenger to life on the big screen twice already will now be doing the same for him and the rest of The Avengers in 2012!

With an all star cast which includes Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Mark Rufallo as Bruce Banner, Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye, Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, Clark Gregg as Agent Coulson, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury and Tom Hiddleston as Loki, The Avengers is set to be released on May 4, 2012!

New to this site. Must say I love it. ILM was a smart move here. Best FX house out there.
soaponapope - 5/23/2011, 3:36 PM
good to hear, Marvel isn't being cheap, paying big bucks for this movie and you know what they say, get what you pay for.
warex3d - 5/23/2011, 3:36 PM
Weta has done the best VFX in the last years. LOTR, KING-KONG and the groudnbreaking Avatar.
Rulk - 5/23/2011, 3:40 PM
ILM did the first Hulk film I believe. Even though I prefer Hulk's look in the incredible hulk, ang lee's Hulk looked less video game like... more natural in its environment and real in its interactions. So sweet!
greenlanter13 - 5/23/2011, 3:55 PM
cant wait for avengers
CapFan79 - 5/23/2011, 4:10 PM

I still can't believe that this is actually going to happen, I mean seriously a super team movie with a cast made up of the original actors, wow I really hope the word does not end in 2012. Let me see this then end.
BIGBMH - 5/23/2011, 5:22 PM
I really don't know much about these effects studios and how they compare, bt from what I see of ILM's past works, this sounds like a very good thing.

@BuckyCap, Pretty cool that you know that guy! I don't have any questions for him, but tell him Dragonball Z crushes Transformers! :)
113 - 5/23/2011, 5:33 PM
Nice, they are the best in Hollywood.
level1paladin - 5/23/2011, 5:52 PM
Holy shit, I actually agree with Intruder for once. WETA is a distant 2nd. They've a long way to go to fill the chops ILM has.

@BuckyCap - I hope you didn't cost him a job by revealing he openly reveals information about "top secret" projects and contracts they're bidding on.
Mrcool210 - 5/23/2011, 6:04 PM
HELL YES I aproove
marvel72 - 5/23/2011, 6:25 PM
i'm happy with ILM,but weta cgi looks fantastic & i reckon it costs less to hire those guys.
FEJ - 5/23/2011, 6:36 PM
With a movie of this magnitude you need to pull out all the stops. "Real tomato ketchup Ed," "Nothing but the best." LOL! What movie is that line from???????
NeoBaggins - 5/23/2011, 6:52 PM
ILM is the ONLY way to go. Awesome news... but still, ILM doesn't automatically mean ILM's top grade work. There appears to be levels of quality which I assume gets better with more money. There's that get-by wiggly-cartoon CGI like the Mummy films, The Mask and Spawn. Then there's that higher grade work like Iron Man and Transformers. Last time I checked, the Avenger budget was looking kinda lite, but if they're getting ILM, they need the team who worked on Star Trek or Avatar. They need the guys Bay has for Transformers.

I hope the top grade ILMers are in the budget.
Rango - 5/23/2011, 8:12 PM
first of all ILM is top grade but how shall it handle all when only 11 months left to release of the film.

Secondly they are great at making "robots/non-alive/objects/buildings" like in Iron man and Transformers but what about Hulk?.. Rhythm n Hues did great job in TIH,even they should have hired Weta for rendering Hulk.
NeoBaggins - 5/23/2011, 8:25 PM
I like the Incredible Hulk design, but for a bigger event movie, his texture and weight would have to be bumped up. I actually wouldn't mind if the Avengers HULK was the Incredible version with a higher texture finish.

And yes, it's easier to do metal than organic. Still, Transformers has some of the best CGI and FX i've ever seen. The shit looks real.
Rango - 5/23/2011, 8:44 PM
yeah a bigger/mascular/stronger Hulk is a must.the TIH one was tiny, atleast 10-11 ft height and a bit bulkier/mascular like World War hulk shall be the one rendered.
I really don't get why they represent hulk weaker than as in comics.Superman is shown lifting a kryptonite island,Thor can create tornadoes while hulk struggles lifting a Police car. They even took away his healing/regeneration,leaping and strength increase powers.
The look shall remain same,TIH was perfect. We don't want an ugly ogre as an Avenger and please no mullet.
Please no mid-night chinatown fight.I wanna see Avengers striking in broad Daylight.

any Idea who is doing Captain America?
