An Army Of The Dark Knight's Batman Imposters Set To Return In TDKR?

Remember the Batman imposters from 2008's The Dark Knight? Well, it would appear that over 200 of them will return in the third and final instalment according to a new rumor...

Batman-News have exclusively revealed the following information which they received earlier today. Take it with a pinch of salt for the time being, but if the person behind this email is indeed telling the truth, it seems extremely likely that we'll see the return of a lot of the Batman imposters first introduced in The Dark Knight. Perhaps they'll come to the rescue of the Caped Crusader in his battle against Bane and the rumored League of Shadows?!

We create and provide bulk sales for movie projects ranging from lighting props to police badges. Today at work we had a meeting that all projects where to be put on hold for the remainder of the work week. Some dummy movie company name ordered nearly 200 Batman suits all requested to look *homemade* and to fit a wide range of sizes. The job is dead lined August 10th and must be shipped August 11th...

The Dark Knight Returns ending was great but that is only because Batman is old and can't do the stuff that he used to do. He needs help with cleaning up Gotham. In Nolan's films, Batman is still only beginning. It would make zero sense if it ended like The Dark Knight Returns.

At first I thought they'd be absent, The Joker seemed to discourage their nightly crusade.

But... YES! This exactly what I want to see. Gotham has evolved. They're not hopeless like they were in Batman Begins.

And Catwoman shows that things have truly changed, even females have become Batman-inspired copyCATS. Also seems like the GPD hunt for Batman ain't doing good.

They can fight for themselves. All they needed was inspiration. In a crowd of Batman imposters, Bane cries for real one to stand, THE DARK KNIGHT RISES!

2012, Gotham becomes a war zone :P I'm officially excited.

that would crack me up if nolan did that,an army of batmen vs bane & his army of bane's.

I don't think it's going to be a situation where Bruce and an army of imposters defeat Bane. I think when Batman goes away and decides he doesn't want to be Batman

(What if he doesn't exist anymore?)

Tons of fake-Bat's are going to show up and start trying to take down Bane/bring order to Gotham, and they will all fail miserably. Batman will see that Gotham needs him to come back, and he will return to fight Bane after Gotham basically goes to sh*t when he leaves.

The whole story has been about Batman trying to save Gotham because everyone is scared to do anything with all the corruption. In TDK all the citizens wanted Batman to give up his identity to joker because they were scared And Harvey was a hero they could count on. In this I'm expecting Batman to quit for a while which is going to make people realize they need him and stand up to corruption hence all the people dressed up. Plus it'd be hard to bring down an entire league of assassins on your own lol just my thought of this

Seems like Nolan is basically following the Returns storyline, but making it modern instead of the future. I bet anything Bane represents the huge mutant dude and has his own gang.

@Derezz, your idea is the only one that's ok with me. I guarantee you that's what Nolan would do (assuming this 200 Batman suits rumor is true).

It will be nice if batman proves how stupid people are by dressing as him and trying to make justice themselves.

It can be the character changing point to me, since in my opinion he's not really yet the classic supersmart batman in this franchise.

Lol how is Batman meant to train 200 or so wannabe's in short amount of time and make them good enough so they can go up against the LOS, makes no sense, well him having an army makes no sense, but a bunch of guys trying to take up the mantle after he retires for a bit certainly makes more sense. And why would they order the suits so late in to shooting, isn't PRE production there for this type of thing

I have two theories for this:

1.) Batman is out of commission for a while due to an encounter with Bane. Therefore, a large number of imposters take his place just like in TDK, and Bane ends up killing a bunch of them.

2.) I like the V for Vandetta theorie. I can see a large number of Gotham's citizens (maybe police officers) dressing up like Bats and coming to his Aid. This time it is Batman vs an army; so, it's going to take an army in order to stop one.

I can see this scene now. Bane crushes Batman. Batman while weak and unable to fight is pitted with an ultimatum to fight Bane one last time. The public shows up dressed as Batman to show solidarity and scarificing themselves for the sacrifices Batman has taken for them. The Bat-mob is ready to fight Bane as Batman plays injured. Bats takes on Bane but since he has had a hot tub party at Laz's Pit he is more full of life than ever before laying the smack down on Bane.

Either my way or Derezz's way. In either case these Batmen will be there to show solidarity and sacrifice themselves in the mold of Batman to fight Bane.

while I agree that this is just a rumor, I don't think it would be wise to simply dismiss it based on the logic that all costumes would be made in preproduction. Scripts can go through re-writes in which case new props and costumes would have to be made. It is not uncommon for a third party company to do work for a film, especially a film of this magnitude.

pretty cool idea, the imposters might take over batman's mantle in the beginning of the film while hes busy hiding from being hunted. or they take bat's place if bane breaks batman's back!!

They could be imposters. But they could also be protesters.
Campaigning either for the return of Batman, or the capture & arrest of Batman.

I liked having it as a minor subplot of The Dark Knight as it helped tell the narrative but I'd prefer it to not be a major part of the next one. That said, if it is a major part I'm sure it will be for good reason as I doubt they would be included just for the sake of including them *cough* Howling Commandos *cough*cough* War Machine *cough*cough*The Warriors Three *cough*cough* Blake Lively *cough*cough*
